- [Narrator] Congratulations on taking the first steps

towards studying abroad in the United States.

We here at the Global Students Success Program

strive to help international students like yourself

achieve success in your academic journey.

First, you need to obtain your student visa

to study in the U.S.

The visa interview is the most important step

in the visa application process.

During your interview a U.S. consular officer

will ask questions and review your documents

to determine if you are qualified to receive a visa.

To help you with this process we've put together seven tips

to prepare you for your U.S. student visa interview.

Please remember, the visa interview will be

conducted only in English.

It is best to practice your English conversation skills

with your agent, GSSP staff member,

or a native English speaker well before your interview.

Do not memorize prepared answers or speeches.

The U.S. consular officer is interviewing only you

so please don't bring your parents

or other family members with you to the interview.

To better understand how and when you will return

to your home country, the interviewing officer may ask you

questions about your connections to your home country.

He or she may ask about your grades, educational objectives,

future employment plans in your home country, your family

or other relationships and financial prospects

that you own or may inherit.

If a consular officer believes that you will not return

to your home country after you complete your studies,

your student visa will be denied

so please be clear about your answers.

Although you may participate in work study

or internship programs during your studies,

you must be able to explain how studying

in the United States and your intended degree program

relate to your future professional career

back in your home country.

You will need to explain the reasons your are entering

the GSSP and how the program will help you

toward success in your studies.

is a full-time on campus program at the university

in which you will earn university credits

toward your degree program at the host university.

financially while studying in the U.S.
