Native Canoe Journey Adventure 2018 - Duration: 3:42.

Minh, Loan and Mark went to the 2018 Canoe Journey

This year it was the Paddle to Puyallup

First they stopped in Ruston across the bay and had gourmet sandwiches

They took a ride along the beach in a pedal car

This year there were 108 Native American Tribes in the Canoe Journey

It is an annual Native American traditional canoe gathering that takes place along the West Coast of Washington & Canada

Their canoes (boats) look similar to Asian boats and so do their woven hats.

Mark grew up as a child with two adopted sisters from the Lummi Tribe of Nations

We have land on a private island that was once a ceremonial ground for the Natives

For thousands of years the Natives made this journey in their boats. Some came from over 100 miles across dangerous waters.

We are honored to be invited to the Canoe Journey

The pedal cars are a lot of fun.

The ferry boat in the background is an office for the new condos on the waterfront

A retired ferry captain from our Island once skippered this boat for the owner to Seattle

We went off the sidewalk to have some fun!

At the park we saw a deer

Then we saw the other smaller animals that live in the park

We took a bus from the parking lot to the Canoe Journey landing

The Natives sing to their ancestors the same way the mountain people in Vietnam do

The canoes were landed one at a time and local Veterans helped carry them up the beach.

The canoes are carved from a single tree and are heavy. It was nice to have the Veterans help

It was an interesting experience to meet the descendants of the people who were here thousands of years ago and see what they have in common with our own culture

The spirit of their ancestors was present

Follow us for more adventures!
