What's up Bafflers!
James Whitworth here!
In order to maximise the performance of your PC, you may want to upgrade your hard drive.
Hard drives have always been the storage norm.
Upgrading to an SSD however can make a big difference.
[intro music]
Whilst SSD's are smaller and much lighter, they're known to be more expensive.
Due to their increasing popularity, SSD's are becoming more and more affordable.
On Amazon, you can find the Kingston A400 SSD on Sale under $35 or £30.
As always you'll find the best Amazon deals around the world, using the Genius link in
the description!
It's pretty nifty.
Kingston are no newbies to storage, in fact they're the 'largest independent manufacturer
of memory products'.
This is great because they're so confident, they offer you a 3 years warranty.
Here's were the figures talk!
Kingston say this SSD drive is 10x faster than a standard hard drive.
Quite a difference, huh?!
The size of this drive is 2.5" SATA, so should fit in most laptops and desktops.
If you're using a desktop, they generally take the larger 3.5" size.
Check to see if your case fits 2.5" drives.
If not, fear not as I've also put a 3.5" to 2.5" adaptor kit in the description.
In the package, if I can open it, is the SSD.
There's no screws, so if you're short on them, I've put a link in the description where you
can buy some.
Now I'm going to install it in my desktop PC.
I need two cables - a SATA Data cable and a SATA power cable.
You computer may have a spare SATA power connection available.
Mine was in cable ties so with a couple of snips it looked like a cable jungle!
Now to do some comparison!
I'm going to compare which storage method can boot Windows faster.
My computer currently has Windows 10 installed on the hard drive.
To achive this, I'm using Macrium Reflect which you can download for free.
It's a program which will clone the hard drive on to the SSD.
This means I have an identical test of Windows, the only difference being one's HDD (or hard
drive disk) and the other is SSD (or solid state disk).
Before I start, each computer is different, so your PC may achieve faster or slower results.
This is also a working version of Windows, and not freshly installed.
So without further ado, let's begin!
[background music]
The Hard drive booted Windows 10 in 49.38 seconds, but in the lead is the SSD which
booted Windows in just 35.96 seconds!
That's a 13.42 second difference.
If you've upgraded to the Kingston A400 SSD, let me know your results in the comments.
Thanks for watching!
