The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first began dating in 2003. But five year's into the relationship, the Queen reportedly found Kate's "frivolous displays of wealth unpalatable" when Britain was going through a recession in 2008
REVEALED: Prince George and Princess Charlotte's 'NO NONSENSE' nanny Kate Middleton was VERY jealous of Prince William and another woman According to Royal author Katie Nicholl, Queen Elizabeth II expressed "grave concerns" over Kate not having a full-time job
The comment reportedly came during the 2008 financial crisis as the Queen found Kate's luxurious London lifestyle "unpalatable"
Kate used to live in the lavish London neighbourhood of Chelsea with her sister Pippa before she married into the Royal family in 2011
The Duchess of Cambridge was working part-time for her parents' company Party Pieces, but was frequently seen out partying and on holidays with Prince William
In the 2010 biography William and Harry, Ms Nicholls wrote: "If Kate was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique
"Kate was there so often the press dubbed her 'Queen of Mustique', a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret
" The Queen reportedly found Kate's lifestyle problematic at the time when Britain's economy was struggling
The royal author added: "Britain was now in recession and such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to The Queen

" According to the Royal author, the monarch organised for Kate to get involved in charity work
Ms Nicholls explained: "The Queen had quietly suggested that Kate affiliate herself with a charity and, by September, she was involved with Starlight, which works with seriously and terminally ill children
" This comes as the Duchess of Cambridge was named the "least hard-working" Royal of 2018
Kate only carried out a total of 87 engagements in the past 12 months, according to an analysis compiled from the Court Circular
However, the reason for the Duchess of Cambridge's absent from Royal duties is because she gave birth to Prince Louis in April and was on maternity leave until September 2018
And while Kate had good reasons for being last on the list, Prince William only carried out a total of 220 engagements
Compared to his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, who is 92-years-old and carried out a total of 283 engagements, Prince William noticeably lagged behind
