Hello friends! What's up? How are you? I am Chris Lozano and welcome to
Spanish with Chris. Well, this time we're going to learn a little
about a phrase very related to the Christmas holidays and this is the
translation of "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year "to Spanish
If we search on the internet, in a dictionary, the word "Merry", we will find
that the translation, the literal translation, is "Feliz"
If we look up the word in a dictionary "Happy", we will find that the
translation is "Happy". Then, we could consider that the phrase in Spanish is
"Feliz navidad y feliz año nuevo" but, in Spanish,
we do not say that phrase because the word "feliz" is repeated twice
Then, we say "Feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo"
but prosperous, in the place of "happy"? It does not make a lot of sense
Well, let's consider this. It's simply like an equivalence of English translation
"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" to the Spanish "Feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo".
Now, if we mention only
Christmas, we can say the phrase "Feliz navidad"
enough. If we refer only to the new year
there we can say "Feliz año nuevo" and when we refer to the words
Christmas and New Year we have to say
"Feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo"
Very good friends. I wish you all the best for 2019
Have fun with your friends, your family, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, your dog
With everyone. I send you a big hug, a very, very strong hug and once again
"Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo"
See you
