All right. We've been invited to a farm in Valença Bahia to check out some
of the farming process. Especially cacao which is the cocoa bean which is how
chocolate is made. So come with me and let's check out the whole process.
We are an American family of 7 living working and loving Brazil.
Welcome to the adventures of Our Brazilian Life.
Cocoa. This is where the chocolate comes from. Inside there's a seed. You dry
out that seed and that's where the chocolate comes from.
Here are the cacau beans. And here is our newest employee, Chani.
And here, she will take and experiment. If you eat it, it is more expensive.
So we're cutting open the cocoa. Taking out the seads the middle.
Then it will stay in this hot house to dry out.
These are chocolate seeds. And this is the fruit. It's really sweet and yummy.
And once it is dried, it gets processed into chocolate.
Bahia produces 95% of the chocolate in Brazil.
So we are speading the chocolate seeds out on the ground. This is a greenhouse.
We are speading them out so they will dry on the floor in here. It takes about 2 or 3 days.
And then it's ready to go to market.
This is really good.
When it is all dry, you throw it down here? Yes.
We're in a greenhouse right now. They're just finishing up harvesting they're
pimenta and we just did a little bit of chocolate. Here is a little hole all the
way down to the bottom. They fill, they push all the seeds down there, and
then they fill it up with sacks down at the bottom. It's pretty cool.
Okay we just came from the hot house up there on top of the roof. This is that drainage
pipe. That pipe where once all the seeds are dried they sweep them all
down this pipe. They put a bag right under here and it fills up a bag right here.
Here is a bag thats been filled up with all the seeds, all the cocoa.
That's awesome. (Chani)
There's the cocoa. (chani) That's chocolate!
This fresh Brazil chocolate.
We've been through the whole farming process of cocoa.
We saw the trees from the very infancy, from where they're planted.
To the tree the fully grown trees. To harvesting the trees, drying out
the seeds and getting them ready for market. We had a great time here with
Marcos and his family. All right now you guys have seen the whole process of the
chocolate beans or the cacau here at the farm. If you want to see the
chocolate beans at the factory click on this link right here. Where the chocolate
is turned into chocolate bars. All right, thanks for following us and we'll see you later.
