2018 KCON LA Interview: Elise (Silv3rT3ar) shares her favorite KPOP song, guitar techniques, + MORE - Duration: 12:44.

Byul: Hello, my name is Byul from Pop Square. It's really great to meet you! I've been a huge fan since you had started doing your covers way back then

Elise: Thank you so much

Byul: To see your acoustic version and also how you create the English version for the songs, is amazing. It's a huge honor to finally meet you.

Elise: Thank you

Byul: Can you please give a greeting to Pop Square and also to your other viewers?

Elise: Hi, I'm - should I introduce myself?

Byul: Yeah go ahead introduce yourself

Elise: Hi I'm Elise, I'm also known as Silv3rT3ar on YouTube

Elise: I make covers as she's said of KPOP songs in English acoustic version, Korean etc

Byul: I'll be putting her link down below in the description for you guys to check out, which definitely you should

Byul: So hit subscribe and like her videos

Byul: You have been on YouTube for a really long time now

Byul: What would you say is the difference from starting way back then to how it is now?

Elise: When I first started, it was like early high school and back then I feel that there weren't as many resources online to learn how to record

Elise: Because of that, a lot of my beginning was like trial and error

Elise: It look a lot longer to get covers done and stuff like that

Elise: The past couple years I have super been busy with school and back then I was able to record and upload a lot because I was still in high school

Elise: But, because I was in college the last couple of years, it's been super busy

Byul: Yeah, I saw those videos

Elise: And I was able to do like, one or two covers in like a year

Elise: Which is really sad but yeah

Byul: But as fans

Byul: We are very thankful that even during the really busy times that you had to even produce one cover

Byul: I'm pretty sure as many fans; they can agree

Byul: We're very thankful Elise: Thank you

Elise: I'm really thankful that there are people that are willing to wait for me

Elise: It really means so much to me

Elise: So, thank you

Byul: I feel that in a way

Byul: For us fans

Byul: To kind of know that you are doing well

Elise: Alive?

Byul: Yeah, like "oh thank god she's still here"

Elise: Yeah, I'm still alive

Byul: Because, you know there are sometimes there are some YouTubers that there is like hiatus

Byul: They just, go quiet?

Elise: Yeah

Byul: And, they disappear and so you're like "wait what"

Elise: Yeah, yeah

Elise: The thing is, I'm still really active on my other social media

Byul: Yes, definitely

Elise: Twitter and Instagram, I'm still really active

Elise: But sometimes like YouTube, I don't have time. I can't upload a cover because it could take awhile

Byul: Definitely

Byul: Recording, editing and everything like that definitely takes a lot of time

Byul: I know that for your YouTube covers, you also play the acoustic version

Elise: Yeah

Byul: What is a tip for those who are trying to play the guitar?

Byul: Did you self taught yourself or did you take a class?

Elise: I self taught (myself)

Elise: What I did was I basically found some popular songs

Elise: It's easier if you find

Elise: Like American, English songs

Elise: Basically find the chords that are easy for it

Elise: There are lots of chords out there

Elise: There's like guitar and (sorry could not understand)

Byul: Definitely

Elise: So basically, I do is I started off by

Elise: Looking up some songs that were easy

Elise: To sing and to play

Elise: And basically like the chords, the basic chords

Elise: Like C G D, like those are the easy ones

Elise: And that's what I started with

Byul: Yeah

Elise: Because

Elise: My hands are really small

Elise: So when I play guitar

Elise: it gets, it's really hard like I can't bar very well

Elise: Starting with those kinds of chords helps you

Elise: Build your like

Elise: Stamina, I guess you can call it

Byul: Also you start getting all of the calluses Elise: Calluses

Byul: On all of your fingers Elise: Yeah I lost of them

Elise: In college

Byul: Oh yeah, because

Byul: I feel that when you start playing for a little bit

Byul: You have them but then when you stop

Elise: It goes away Byul: Just a couple days

Byul: It goes away

Byul: Same thing for rock climbing

Byul: You have to keep constantly doing it or else it's like Elise: Mhm

Byul: Where did it go

Elise: Exactly

Elise: Like my fingers are like

Elise: Really squishy now

Byul: Oh no!

Byul: Did you think that even though you're really busy

Byul: To not be able to do covers do you just sometimes

Byul: Hold the guitar to try to get your calluses back?

Byul: Or do you have to constantly playing the guitar to keep your calluses?

Elise: To keep calluses you would need to actually play

Elise: Because you have to press down to get the calluses Byul: Definitely, yeah

Elise: Um

Elise: I think

Elise: I probably should practice more guitar

Elise: And that

Elise: Because actually when you first play

Elise: It doesn't feel too bad

Elise: But it's if you play a lot

Byul: Oh when you're constantly keep going Elise: Yeah

Elise: Because sometimes when I make a cover, I keep recording it

Elise: Because I want it to be perfect

Elise: But when you it play too much it hurts a lot and you can't play

Elise: But um

Elise: What am I doing?

Elise: I don't know

Byul: Don't worry take your time, take your time

Elise: Yeah but um

Elise: Basically

Elise: Yeah, I don't remember what I was going to say

Byul: It will come back

Elise: Yeah, yeah, yeah

Byul: But pretty much keep practicing

Byul: If you stop

Byul: The calluses will go away Elise: Oh!

Elise: I remember what I was going to say

Byul: Oh, there we go! Elise: So with guitar

Elise: It really depends on

Elise: The string too

Byul: Ah

Elise: If you have a thicker string, it hurts more

Elise: Because it's harder

Elise: But if you have thinner strings, they're going to be easier to play

Elise: So if you're first starting off

Elise: Getting a thinner string would be better

Byul: Okay

Byul: You have a lot of YouTube covers now

Byul: Which one would you say is your favorite?

Byul: Or the hardest to learn?

Elise: I think my favorite was

Elise: "봄날 (Spring Day)" - BTS

Elise: Just because I put so many layers into the song

Elise: During the chorus, I have a part where there are probably like 7 or 8

Elise: Layers of harmonizes and backup vocals

Elise: That took cover took a really long time to write as well

Elise: Because there were lots of lyrics in that

Elise: Because they would sing rap a lot

Byul: Which you did amazing by the way

Elise: Oh thank you

Elise: Thank you so much

Elise: So, yeah, I think " '봄날 (Spring Day)" is one of my favorite covers

Byul: So then also

Byul: What would you say to those who are trying to start up their YouTube channel

Byul: And they are just really afraid because you know how they progressed from now compared to back then

Byul: Because it may had been a little bit easier Elise: Right, yeah

Byul: But now, it's getting a lot more difficult, especially for people have to be a little more like

Byul: Able to handle to create the video, edit the video and everything like that

Byul: So what advice would you give them?

Elise: I would say

Elise: To be not afraid to post

Elise: Because even if it doesn't get a lot of views

Elise: You, you made something

Elise: And you accomplished it and posted it

Elise: That's amazing and enough itself

Elise: It's hard when you don't get feedback

Byul: Definitely yeah

Byul: They just watch it and that's it Elise: Yeah, exactly

Elise: I know that can be tough

Elise: Like for me, for my covers

Elise: I didn't go into it, expecting it to become what it did

Elise: I think a lot of people say that

Elise: From like when I started

Elise: Because now a days a lot of people

Elise: Make the channel wanting to become big

Byul: Basically just for the view count not for the huge passion for music Elise: Yeah

Elise: For me, obviously it's cool that there are subscribers out there

Byul: It's a benefit

Elise: It's so cool

Elise: It's amazing that you're able to connect with people that way

Elise: But also like

Elise: Just like, I used it as a creative outlet

Elise: I really liked music, I wanted to try out new things

Elise: I wanted to try out guitar

Elise: Try out different styles of singing

Elise: And that's what I used YouTube for

Elise: And so I guess, like, be yourself

Elise: I know, so stereotypical but

Elise: It's true Byul: It's true

Byul: It's true, it's definitely true

Elise: To be yourself

Elise: Also be genuine to people who comment on your video

Elise: They took the time and effort to comment and see something

Elise: I think it's really important to interact with the people who comment on your videos

Byul: Definitely yeah

Byul: Don't let them stay in the dark

Byul: Just kinda acknowledge them Elise: Yeah

Elise: Even now, when I first upload a video

Elise: I stay there for a really long time reading comments

Elise: Leave a little reply Byul: Oh yeah, I see little hearts and you replying back to everybody

Byul: Everybody is like "yes she's notice me!"

Byul: You replied to this person Elise: Yeah, yeah

Elise: And then sometimes I go back because

Elise: On the YouTube app

Elise: There's a studio app

Byul: Yes

Elise: You're able to look at all of your comments

Elise: So sometimes, I go through that

Elise: It's just all of your recent (comments)

Elise: So it could be on a older video too

Elise: And people don't expect you to see those but

Elise: It's kind of cool that you're able to see everything still

Byul: What would you say then is the most memorable comment you ever got on your YouTube channel?

Byul: Probably pretty hard since it's been awhile

Elise: Yeah, I can't think of one specific one

Elise: But I guess in general

Elise: When someone says like

Elise: "Your music helped me study"

Elise: Or "helped me sleep better"

Elise: Or anything like that

Byul: It's just very soothing

Elise: Exactly - oh thank you

Elise: It just really means a lot to me when

Elise: Like - I

Elise: They tell me that my music has helped them

Elise: Because

Elise: It's just so cool that someone sleeps better because of my music or studies better

Elise: And also, I really like when people say they like specific parts

Elise: Of the cover that they like

Elise: It's just fun to see what they thought of

Elise: Because for me, I really like certain parts of my cover too

Elise: Based on like "oh this worked out perfectly", "it sounds like this" Byul: Yes!

Elise: Yes!

Elise: And so, it's really awesome when other people notice the small things like adding

Elise: Background vocals or harmonizes, things like that

Byul: That's really awesome

Byul: So then

Byul: I think the last question I want to ask you, since I don't want to take too much of your time

Elise: No, no worries

Byul: So you cover, when you cover the songs you actually write your own lyrics

Elise: Mhm

Byul: But then, would there ever be a time where you completely write your own original?

Elise: Oh my gosh yeah

Byul: Because, I'm pretty sure a lot of fans really anticipating and are looking forward to it

Byul: But I know you're very busy, but do you think that maybe down the future maybe you'll have digital single?

Byul: Or mini album?

Byul: Or full album?

Elise: So - Byul: I'll buy that

Elise: Oh thank you

Elise: For me

Elise: It hasn't really been on my mind to write originals

Elise: Because of the fact that YouTube isn't a full time job for me

Elise: I think that I'm very open to it

Elise: But I just haven't really thought so much about making my own songs

Elise: But

Elise: I do want to want to get into that

Byul: I think

Byul: As long

Byul: For a lot of cases, like how you started your YouTube channel with no pressure

Byul: I think it could be randomly one day, you just have a random inspiration

Byul: Because for a lot of music writers

Byul: They would get a random inspiration one day and write it down a little bit

Byul: Like Hoshi for choreography and Woozi (for lyrics) Elise: Yeah

Byul: Seventeen

Byul: I think it might come to you like that

Byul: Where you write then get some random inspiration and all the pieces start coming together Elise: Yeah

Byul: Maybe one day

Elise: That's true, like I guess

Elise: Now that you say it like that

Elise: I have written random lyrics down before

Elise: Because sometimes you're in that mood

Elise: Or you're

Elise: Or something happens and then

Byul: You just get a random inspiration

Elise: Yeah, you have these thoughts in your mind

Elise: That you want to put down

Elise: And so I have written random lyrics before

Elise: But I haven't put together a full song

Byul: Yeah Elise: Yeah

Byul: And then watch, you'll be like Woozi where he writes it (lyrics) and then he's like

Byul: "This is garbage"

Byul: And then you start writing again and again

Elise: Yeah, I feel like I'm one of those because

Elise: I'm really

Elise: Like it needs to be the way I want it to be you know?

Byul: It needs to fit your character and exactly what message you want to say

Elise: Because it can be a used as a message

Byul: Then what message would you want your fans to have when they hear your music?

Byul: Even though it's a cover, it's still your own work

Byul: Because you're making it into a English version

Elise: Yeah

Byul: So, what kind of message do you want to send to your fans when they are listening to your music?

Elise: So I think not

Elise: Necessarily not the actual lyrics meaning

Elise: I just want my music to comfort people

Elise: In times when they are stressed or just

Elise: Worried or things like that

Elise: I think that music is super powerful and does that Byul: Definitely

Elise: It can help people

Elise: That's why there's music therapy and things like that

Elise: So I think

Elise: That's what, I really want my listeners to

Elise: Get from my music

Elise: A comfort kind of feeling

Byul: And you already saw some comments that, it is

Elise: Yeah yeah!

Elise: Which means so much

Byul: They could be like, instead of counting sheep

Byul: Listen to her songs

Byul: And you'll be having sweet dreams left and right

Elise: Hopefully

Byul: Who needs a dream catcher when you have her YouTube channel?

Elise: Oh my gosh

Byul: Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule

Elise: Yeah of course

Byul: To talk with me and also to Pop Square Elise: Thank you for having me

Byul: Can you give one last greeting to our Pop Square viewers?

Elise: Thanks so much for watching this interview and thank you guys (Pop Square) for having me

Elise: I'm just really honored to be here at KCON

Elise: Because when I started, I didn't think

Elise: Anything like this would ever happen

Elise: It's all because of you guys, really

Elise: As cliche as it is

Elise: It's all because of my subscribers and everything

Elise: That I am able to be here

Elise: I am just so so thankful

Elise: Thank you so much for sticking with me

Elise: Being patient when I'm like super busy

Byul: It's okay, we understand

Elise: Thank you

Elise: Thank you so much

Elise: Please subscribe, I guess, to my channel

Elise: Thank you
