Wireless Fieldbus Communication with SMC's EX600-W! (Pack Expo 2018) - Duration: 3:30.

Hi everyone! Danielle here at Pack Expo International 2018. So Airline has tons

of vendors, and a lot of our valued partners are here at Pack Expo.

So right now we're going to check out SMC's booth and speak with Mark,

their electronic product sales manager, and he's going to show us their wireless solutions.

Mark Arnold with SMC, I'm the product manager for electronic products and today at Pack Expo,

we're going to talk about the easy way to get communication between i/o modules.

So, this is the master unit here.

It's connected directly to the PLC through Ethernet IP in a traditional manner.

But the master unit is going to communicate to the slave unit up to ten meters away.

So if we walk over here we can see the slave unit.

It's on this other machine. So the slave unit

is down here, and is able to control this entire machine from the master unit.

So with that, we can see AC servo drives valve systems on here all controlled

remotely through this wireless system. The wireless system here, the master has

the capability of running up to fifteen slave units

with the master. All the i/o is very flexible for the customer.

You have discrete i/o or analog. You have various form factors of the IO data

and most of the most popular valve systems from SMC can be controlled on this slave unit.

So, not only on robots but also on a turntable you can have this system where

you don't have to run a communication cable through a slip ring or some other

type of communication that's gonna be unreliable or expensive.

The ethernet cable breaks a lot, so that's something that we're going to try to get away from.

Also there's labor savings with not having to route the cable for the customer.

So what we found a lot of customers in automotive industries where they're

dealing with real nasty environments such as weld cells

and having problems they solve their issues by being able to use this

wireless system. And it's very reliable in high noise environments such as

welding, because we use a 2.4 gigahertz frequency. It is also very secure so where

customers are concerned on the IT level we have ability to be secure with our

own proprietary network. We were the first to market on this. I'm not aware of

any other competition that has this flexible wireless system. It's been in

service for about three years, so it's not just a new technology, it's

actually proven. It's been in the field for quite a while so it's not,

like, brand new where nobody can trust it. We have a lot of experience with this.

And so if the customers want to test it, we're able to bring a demo sample into

their facility to show them how it works, test it, and let them feel comfortable with it.

Special thanks from mark for taking the time to show us SMC's booth today.
