Duduk Unboxing & First Time Playing | Mary Hamer | Vlog 007 - Duration: 7:49.

Hi guys!

Ok, so my husband got me a present and it came in the mail!

You don't get to see my address. Ha ha ha ha! =P

So let's open it up and see what it is. Even though I know what it is... but YOU don't...

Or maybe you do because it's probably going to be in the description.

[Horror music & heart beats]

Ok, so here's the box.

[cheers] Yaaaaay.... [sarcastically]

See if we can open it

K. Let's get some help.

This thing is so light.

[singing:] Inside the box!

I don't think it comes with a case.

That's kinda lame.

k... let's... let's not use this thing no mo'.

Let's get some scissors.

oh my gosh

There are the reeds.

Reed one.

Reed two.

Reed three.

AND NOW THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL.... oh there it is.

"A" Duduk... Made by SIMON.

This here...

Goes in

And then you put the Duduk reeds on top there.

OR...

Or maybe it's... No I take that back...

You just put the Duduk reed right inside.

Because this...

Is an adapter...

For this. Which is a Clarinet mouthpiece.

Now... not exactly sure how that's gonna work out

I hear that you have to change your embouchure to tune the Duduk

Cause some of the notes will be higher than others and some will be lower.

I'm not sure how that's going to work with the Clarinet reed, to tell you the truth.

But...

There ya go

Guys, I screwed up

So this piece...

Right here...

Is supposed to be attached to this piece.

But they're not.

[Little singing tune]

I think I cut them... with these here scissors, when I was opening it up.

Yay for me!

K. So what we have to do is take these off of the reed.

When you start out, they're closed like this.

But you want them to open up so that the air can get through and make a sound.

So I'm going to take a couple of drops of water.

And then I'm gonna shake it up.

And pour the rest out

And then we wait...

Ok so I soaked the reed and now it has, like, a little mouth to it, but...

Without this guy...

[sound fail] It's pretty open, so...

You put this on there to close it up a little bit...

And then...

[sound]

[laugh] Oh my gosh... wow...

[sung:] Put it in.

[Trevor (husband) off screen:] I'm just gonna note, that it smells kinda like bacon.

Oh my God, it does!

1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3... this should give me an A.

Or a close proximity to an A.

[sound fail] ...okay... [Trevor laughs offscreen]

It's not an easy instrument, I guess

I don't have to guess, I've read on the internet it's not easy. So therefor, ya know...

[SQUEEK] [Laugh]

[notes]

oh! This it the opposite of a Clarinet.

oh god

[Trevor:] Try putting it in your mouth a little bit more.

I think you're supposed to just barely have it in your mouth, but I'll try.

[notes]

[fail]

[note]

[Trevor laughs]

[fail] Oh what the frick?

[Trevor laughs] [Trevor:] Mind if I try it?

Yeah you try

[Trevor:] Yeah. Lemme try really quick.

[Trevor:] Oh wait, this doesn't work.

[Mary:] YEAAAAH!

[Trevor:] This is an awkward hand position, I'm just gonna point that out.

[Mary:] Three and three?

[Trevor:] No. The way the thumb is positioned... WAIT!

[Trevor:] You've got in in backwards [Mary:] WHAT?

[Trevor:] The ball end goes on the bottom

[Mary:] Shut up.

[Trevor:] I guess it doesn't.

[Trevor:] Nope. You're right. I'm dumb.

[Mary:] You're not dumb... you're just...

[Trevor:] I'm not very ... intelligent. [Mary:] There ya go.

[Mary laughs] [Notes]

[more notes]

[fail]

[notes followed by fail] [Mary:] uh oh

[Trevor:] my embouchure is not made for this

[Note followed by fails] [Trevor laughs]

[Trevor:] I got a note! [Mary:] You got some notes, brother! [Trevor:] I got a note!

[Mary blows another reed off screen]

[Trevor:] That one sounds easier.

[Mary:] It's shakey

[Mary:] Try a different reed.

[whole scale played!!]

Laugh at me... [Trevor:] I'm just laughing at the situation.

[Trills]

That A sounds wrong.

MY MOUTH! [Trevor:] It feels buzzy?

Oh my god! I just spit everywhere!

So... this things really rad, and I really like it.

And it's gonna take awhile to get good at.

Which I figured would happen.

Ok. And now we have the Clarinet reed attachment.

[Easily plays up the scale]

It's like a mixture!!

Das enough o' dat. [Trevor:] Das enough o' dat.

[Note ... followed by fail]

[laughs]

I DID IT!!!
