Melania Trump aide blasts 'salacious' reports amid Stormy Daniels controversy - Duration: 2:55.

Melania Trump aide blasts salacious reports amid Stormy Daniels controversy

A spokeswoman for Melania Trump lashed out at the laundry list of salacious & flat-out

false reporting about the first lady on Friday as allegations of a past extramarital

affair by President Donald Trump have grabbed headlines.

It was unclear what specific report the first ladys team was responding to.

But several articles in recent days have linked her absence on the presidents overseas

trip to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland to allegations that Donald Trump had sex with

a former adult film actress in 2006 shortly after Melania Trump gave birth to their son,

Barron.

A CNN report published Thursday noted that the first lady had endured a difficult

start to 2018 as outlets covered claims, first reported by The Wall Street Journal,

that the presidents longtime personal lawyer paid Stephanie Clifford, a porn star who performs

under the name Stormy Daniels, $130,000 before the 2016 election as part of a nondisclosure

agreement to cover up the affair.

On Friday, the Daily Mail tabloid further connected the dots, writing that the first

lady was staying at a posh D.C. hotel away from President Trump in response to the

allegations of an affair.

Friday also published an interview with the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki

Haley, in which she dismissed rumors that she was having an affair with the president

as highly offensive and disgusting.

Stephanie Grisham, communications director for the first lady, pushed back against media

coverage of the East Wing in a tweet on Friday.

The laundry list of salacious & flat-out false reporting about Mrs. Trump by tabloid

publications & TV shows has seeped into main stream media reporting, she wrote.

She is focused on her family & role as FLOTUS not the unrealistic scenarios being

peddled daily by the fake news.

White House officials have denied the allegations, which were detailed in The Wall Street Journal

and subsequently in a 2011 In Touch Weekly interview with Clifford.

In the interview, she discussed her alleged romantic encounter with Trump in great detail,

before she had signed her nondisclosure agreement.During the lengthy sit-down, Clifford described sex

with Trump as textbook generic and said he quickly changed the subject when

she brought up his wife.

The president arrived in Davos, Switzerland, for the elite economic on Thursday and departed

Friday.

Melania Trump was originally scheduled to travel with him but reportedly canceled at

the last minute, without a clear explanation.

Instead, the first lady made a trip to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington to mark

the upcoming Holocaust Remembrance Day before flying down to the presidents Mar-a-Lago

resort on Friday.

Trumps communications team similarly rebutted a November report in Vanity Fair that painted

the first lady as an unwilling participant in her role, calling the article salacious

and shameful.

Donald Rumsfeld's Snowflake Poetry Is Exactly What America Needs Right Now - Duration: 2:43.

Donald Rumsfelds Snowflake Poetry Is Exactly What America Needs Right Now

In newfound verse from 2001, the former defense secretary rages against time, space and indecipherable

acronyms.e honest: When you heard Donald Rumsfeld had released his snowflakes, your first

thoughts were that the former defense secretary must have taken hostages at a Brooklyn Starbucks.

In fact, George Washington Universitys National Security Archive this week released

a colossal trovemore than 900 pagesof Rumsfeldian memos from 2001, which were known

back then as snowflakes.

Almost instantly, the Twitter tag #rummysnowflakes whisked us to the days when Rumsfeld was a

media sensation, as America prepared to fight two wars with a tax cut tied behind its back.

In Pentagon briefings, he regaled the nation with pithy comments about shaved gorillas

and chickens in barnyards, and in 2002, he rendered to the world his oratorical masterpiece

about known knowns, the things that we know we know.

We know there are some things we do not know, he continued.

But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we dont know we dont know. A

star was born.

It formed the basis of Pieces of Intelligence: The Existential Poetry of Donald H. Rumsfeld,

my collection of his spoken verses.

Like Andy Warhols 15 minutes of fame, Rumsfelds unknown unknowns will be

remembered long after Guantanamo Bay is underwater.

But what about these newfound memos, an avalanche of words that until now have languished for

17 years in bureaucratic limbo?

Is there poetry in the piles?

I have looked, and I am now choosing my words as carefully as possible:

Its as if we found an NPR tote bag owned by Emily Dickinson!

People, this is poetry gold!

The Snowflake Verses reveal an evolving bard, bursting with creativityRumsfeld wrote

memos the way Donald Trump downs Diet Cokesas he faced his personal unknown unknowns.

Look closely, and you can see the roots of his future existentialism.

CONUNDRUM

In thinking through one of the problems

between State and Defense, we have to make sure

that none of your people at the levels below you folks

end up clearing things and then getting it up to you

and you not agreeing and then we have to go back

and undo the clearance with State and NSC.

Sept. 24, 2001, 6:23 p.m.

Throughout these verses, Rumsfeld paints himself as a solitary man, seeking to do right in

a world gone mad.

Fox News hosts ramp up 'deep state' conspiracies - Duration: 2:49.

Fox News hosts ramp up deep state conspiracies

As the network escalates its attacks on the FBI, mainstream conservatives say it is endangering

U.S. institutions. As Fox News opinion hosts have grown increasingly conspiratorial in

the past week going to ever-greater lengths to defend President Donald Trump other

conservative commentators are expressing alarm at what they describe as a rising threat to

both their movement and the country.

Those concerns seemed to come to a head Thursday night, when Fox host Sean Hannity was widely

mocked for his logic-bending dismissal of The New York Times report that Trump had

sought to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

But Hannitys coverage was just part of a wider trend, observers say.

For the past week, Fox News opinion hosts have seized on claims by some Republican lawmakers

about a secret society at the FBI and deep state actors to fashion unproven

narratives designed to protect Trump and delegitimize Mueller.

On Wednesday night, Hannity told viewers, The constitutional violations are severe

and historically unprecedented in this country.

You have deep state actors using and abusing the powerful tools of intelligence we give

them to protect this country.

On Tuesday, Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs said, It may be time to declare war

outright against the deep state and clear out the rot in the upper levels of the FBI

and the Justice Department. Also on Tuesday, Steve Doocy credulously reported on "Fox & Friends":

Lawmakers outraged as bombshell texts from that anti-Trump FBI agent and his girlfriend

suggest a secret society within the agency meant to perhaps discredit the president.

Some Fox News reporters and news anchors have pushed back on those narratives, but its

the opinion hosts who occupy the key morning and prime-time slots, when the most viewers

tune in.The network is increasingly engaged in a misinformation campaign aimed directly

at the American people for the purposes of sowing confusing and spinning a web of protective

armor around the president, who is being investigated, said Steve Schmidt, the Republican political

strategist who ran John McCains 2008 presidential campaign.

Schmidt, who is also an analyst for MSNBC, said hes noticed a marked shift on Fox

in the past week, as commentators have ramped up their attacks on institutions, like the

FBI, once sacred to conservatives.

This is not normal.

Not healthy in a democracy, he said.

Stuart Stevens, the Republican who served as chief strategist for Mitt Romneys 2012

campaign, had a similar view.

Why Trump Tweets And Why We Listen - Duration: 3:12.

Why Trump Tweets (And Why We Listen

Twitter is a digital drug designed to constantly feed our egos. What does it mean when the

addict in question happens to be the most powerful man in the world?

which came first, the Donald or the tweet? Unlike the great poultry conundrum, we know

the answer to this one. Donald Trump was well into thick-waisted middle age by the time

Twitter launched in 2006, and he had passed the 60 mark when, three years later, he issued

his first tweet under the @realDonaldTrump moniker. Yet Trumps Twitter feed and his

psyche are now so fused that its hard to tell where one ends and the other beginsor

if such a boundary even exists. Not since Mussolini mounted his Roman balcony has a

national leader merged so completely with a communication platform.

The presidents Twitter fixation gives the lie to the notion that social networks are

preserves of the tech-adept young. Although Trump, according to press reports, rarely

uses computers, sends emails, or goes online, hes found a match in Twitter. Its a

technology perfectly suited to his need for attention and, more ominously, his recklessness.

By blurring private and public discourse, Twitter allows Trump to turn locker-room talk,

his favored idiom, into presidential speech. And it enables him to manhandle the publics

attention, constantly yanking the media spotlight back on himself whenever it starts to wander.

The centrality of Twitter to Trumps presidency is as surprising and novel as the presidency

itself. Trumps early tweeting was flaccid. Like many public figures, he set up his account

for marketing purposes. He used it to promote his TV show, The Apprentice, and his latest

book, Think Like a Champion, along with his various businesses and other interests. Tweets

came haltinglya handful a monthand most were ghostwritten by aides. Check out a

list of Donald Trump's books for summer reading at the Trump University Blog, ran a typical

post. Trump International Tower in Chicago ranked 6th tallest building in world by Council

on Tall Buildings & Urban Habitat, went another. Rarely did the tweets touch on politics,

and rarely did they get much notice.

That changed in the summer of 2011, during the formative stages of the 2012 presidential

race. Mulling a run, Trump made a concerted effort to lift his public profile. Rather

than engage in policy debates, he focused on stirring controversy by attacking President

Barack Obama and congressional leaders and serving as a mouthpiece for the birther movement.

After Obama held a much-publicized Twitter Town Hall on July 6, 2011, politicians of

all stripes began tweeting in earnest, and the press took to using the tweets as hooks

for stories. Trump jumped into the fray, thumbs blazing. His tweeting became a daily habit,

and his tweets assumed the overheated tone and punctuation that are now their hallmarks.
