- We're traveling.
(upbeat motivating music)
- Welcome to Tempe!
- Just every single day, take a step forward
to your next race and you'll get there.
Morning, trainiacs, we're traveling, going somewhere.
We're getting out of the deep freeze.
(upbeat motivating music)
So we are heading to the
Triathlon Business International Conference
in Tempe, Arizona.
I've never been there.
I have not a big idea about what it's gonna be
but Jerry Rodriguez basically sent me an email.
He was like, "You need to come to this.
"You need to figure your shirt out."
I'm like, "Okay, you're Jerry.
"You're smarter than I am."
I think the plan is to really kind of
establish Triathlon Taren as a legitimate business
instead of this YouTuber that's off to the side.
Like, "Yeah, that's Taren, we've heard about him.
"But he's not a businesses, no."
Big business!
So I might be the only business dude there
that wears runners to every event.
(upbeat motivating music)
A tad bumpy.
Oh boy is it nice out there already.
We're gonna put the back wheel on the bike.
Skin is gonna get to see sunlight
for the first time in three months.
It's getting translucent there.
Oh that's nice.
What this is is it's a gathering of head honchos, managers,
founders, presidents, fancy pants people, not this guy,
in the triathlon industry.
And if you've listened to the You're In podcast with NTK,
my goal for this year is to get us Triathlon Taren
to the point that it's all we do.
It's a self-sustaining venture.
Right now it's like a poorly-paying hobby.
But it could be an awesome career
and we're gonna try and get it there by the end of the year.
I need to figure out the lay of the land
with how business works in the triathlon industry.
Gotta get smart.
I already saw Mike Riley, such a good guy.
Now I gotta build this up
'cause we got riding to do tomorrow
because of course, the triathlon conference
has dedicated time for bike riding.
It's in the schedule.
(upbeat motivating music)
(applause)
- How we doing?
(claps and woots) - Good!
- Welcome to Tempe, our eighth annual conference
Triathlon Business International.
- A topic that I think is of real importance
and significance for this group and for our sport.
A launching initiative that a few of us
have been thinking about and kicking around for a while
that I think is germane to our future
and really how we intend to continue
to have triathlon be an important vibrant force.
- There's a great opportunity ahead of us.
But the USA Travel Onboard about a year ago
decided to create a strategic plan.
They saw that our industry
was headed in the wrong direction.
Then there were crosses and we had somewhat of a plateau
in our industry and they were gonna do something about it.
(upbeat motivating music)
- Oo, that was a bit of a long day.
A lot of hand-shaking and back-slapping
and people kissing babies.
There was actually a congresswoman there.
Tomorrow much more interesting.
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday we're gonna be here
with some pro triathletes.
We got a lot of very interesting stuff coming up for ya.
Right now while I'm here, here, we'll bring this right in.
It's not like I'm coming here with this agenda of like,
"I've gotta get a certain amount of business cards."
It's that I'm literally coming here almost with hat-in-hand.
When people say, "What are doing?"
I'm here to figure out what I do.
I've got a nice social media following,
a lot of people follow.
By the way, everyone is impressed by all of you.
A lot of them read the comments.
They really dig how passionate trainiacs are.
A lot of people have actually said, "Hey, a trainiac!"
So good on you.
But sometimes, you know what I said that...
In this journal, every single day in the morning
at about 4:50 a.m., I wake up early.
Part of my morning journaling
is writing down three important things
that are going to step me forward
in where I want to be in life.
So that I'm not thinking about what's my 10-year plan
and my vision board of where I wanna be in 10 years
and just have to listen to that book The Secret
and think and grow rich.
No, every single day I'm doing three tactical things
that I know are going to make me smarter,
give me more clarity,
take another step forward in where I wanna be.
And where I wanna be a year from now is
this as all that we do.
And one day a couple weeks ago,
I wrote down that I needed to meet more people
and understand more about the triathlon industry.
It just so happened that on that day,
Jerry Rodriguez, awesome triathlon swim coach,
and I don't make any money off of this.
I just really like Jerry and his approach
to triathlon swimming so I worked out a deal with him
that all of you can get a free week
with Jerry's triathlon training plans
if you go to Tower 26's website and you use T26-Taren.
But anyway, Jerry, at that time
that I was doing all this thinking and the journal,
he just said, "Come to this conference.
"It'll help you."
So this weekend, we're taking another step forward.
Same thing you all need to do in triathlon.
Just every single day, take a step forward to your next race
and you'll get there.
So there ya go, triathlon trainiacs, I don't imagine
that this is a very searchable video
so there's probably not a lot of new viewers watching.
But if there are, hit the Subscribe button below.
If you're an existing trainiac, thank you very much
because you all allow me to come to places like this
and have people say nice things
about how cool our community is.
So thanks.
