Welcome to your singing lessons
My name is Eilish San and today we're going to see
what are dynamics and volume, and how to apply them
In most songs we need to play
with the volumes to which we sing
each piece of the song
For example, to finish a song we usually
change from a higher volume to a lower volume
so it sounds like fading,
these changes of volumes are called dynamics
The volume depends on how much mass of vocal cord
is touching, rather than how much air is expelled
To understand this in an easy way you have to know
that the vocal cords are in our larynx,
which joins together in the front,
and joined behind to two cartilages
The vocal cords are not just what they look like
in drawings and pictures, where we just see
the long part, but also have a width
The vocal cords vibrate bottom to top,
so bottom to top, bottom to top,
the higher the volume the more cord surface is touched,
the lower the volume the more superficial the touch
So we do not have to push
for more air to come out if we want more volume,
because this would make us tense and have
to use more muscle to produce it
Let's do some volume regulating exercises
so you can do it
Choose a tone where you are comfortable
Let's start from a lower volume
to a higher volume, this is what is called crescendo
Now go from a higher volume to a lower volume,
what is called decrescendo
This is harder to make, since to sustain
a lower volume more work
is needed than for a higher one
Let's make dynamics
from low to high and back to low,
and from high to low and back to high,
We can apply this to any song
of any style and gives expression to our songs
Tell me how good you are making dynamics
and what you use them for
If you liked it, do like it
If you know of someone this might help
share it with her, she'll surely thank you
and so will I,
