USA news on Youtube Oct 2 2018

Hey Jerry! How's it going? Good man.

Here we are at the very cool new Nestlé

headquarters. Gonna kick this thing off with a very simple question.

Let's do it!

So what's your position at Nestlé?

So I'm a recruiter supporting our marketing function here with Nestlé USA.

That sounds big.

What brands do you recruit for?

A little bit of them all from Coffee-mate to Stouffer's and everything in between

at all of our corporate sites. That's fun! And what's the most fun part

of your job then?

Engaging with candidates I would say - just

everyone has a unique story - something that makes them unique about them

just taking time to listen has been awesome and finding out how they

can add value to the company.

Nice. And three words that describe the ideal recruit? Go!

Well - insightful, adaptable, and collaborative.

Okay. A surprising fact about Nestle you can't wait to tell a new candidate?

That we've moved so far past confections and truly innovated in every category.

Okay - most unusual background of anyone you've ever recruited?

I would have to say an educator - she was truly able to show how her skill set was transferrable

to each and every role that she was applying for and has truly been an

asset to our team here at Nestlé. Okay, love that! What's the most important

thing about working with candidates? I think the biggest thing is to ensure

that you are always engaging, authentic, and always have that transparency there.

You never want to make sure that someone has a false reality of what to expect

but also making sure it's a win-win situation not only for the company but

for the employee themselves. Right. Let's talk about you. Most meaningful feedback

you've ever received on your own performance?

I would definitely have to

say it has been: never be afraid to speak up. More than ever we're in this

competitive intensity and we have to think differently and do things

differently and I think a part of that is not being afraid to raise your hand.

Right on. The first place someone should look for you if you're not at

your desk?

So usually it's the hub but I am on my way to a meeting so I'll catch up with you later.

What's the meeting? Is it, is it a big-? Can I get one of those

cards so I can slide through the- no? All right we'll catch you up top.

Hey there he is - awesome shirt - what's the dress code?

It's dress for your day every day. Nice, favorite piece

of equipment in the company gym? Definitely the elliptical.

Your mentor at Nestlé? My HR director Maggie McCartin. Shout out to Maggie!

Your idol in life? Oprah.

Oprah!

Where do you live? Alexandria, Virginia not too far from the office.

How do you get to work? I drive every day.

Last podcast you listened to?

Oprah super-soul conversations.

What's one thing no one knows about you? That I love bacon.

What attracted you to Nestlé in the first place?

Honestly, the people. The people truly make up this organization.

And what's your advice to Nestlé newbies?

Challenge yourself to learn as much as you can

even if that means going outside your day-to-day role.

Hey Jerry, thanks for your time, and one last question - how do I get out of here?

Down the hall and to the left.

Okay I'm headed to the le- you're the man!

Virtual reality grocery shopping.

Virtual reality, cool!

How does Nestlé help you grow?

I've done a bunch of different roles within the company

from marketing to sales to even a stint in Switzerland.

Wow! What's something about Switzerland most people don't know?

There's three main languages;

Italian, German and French.

Alright switching gears, what's on your DiGiorno pizza?

Barbecue sauce.

Barbecue..? Okay.

What do your senior leaders talk about and care about most?

Developing products that are right for our consumers.

The e-biz team: how has it changed?

It's ever-evolving - we're investing in resources to help be competitive,

Results-driven, collaborative and fast-paced.

What type of person would thrive here then?

Someone looking for a long-term career with growth opportunities.

Okay I'm just asking for a friend.

Most unusual company perk?

Real recognition points. You can give them out to co-workers for doing a great job

and buy anything from airline tickets to dinnerware!

The hubs; they're like our kitchens.

Some words of advice for a brick and mortar business that's slow to evolve?

Adopt quickly or be prepared to close up shop.

Ask Me Anything: Leo at Nestlé USA - Duration: 3:40.

Leo? Just the man I was looking for!

Hey, how are you?

Good, good!

Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions.

Of course, shoot!

Alright, here's an easy one:

What's your position at Nestlé?

I'm marketing director for Ready to Drink.

And what was your first position at Nestlé?

Associate brand manager for Nesquik back in Mexico.

Alright, three words that describe the RTD category?

Fast-paced, intense and very competitive.

What's your latest coup?

We just got approval for all of our launches from here to 2021.

So, pretty cool.

More fun to work on challenger brand or category leader?

They're both fun, but I would say I'm really enjoying being a challenger right now.

Next big thing in coffee?

Adaptogens. You wait for it, it's gonna set the world on fire.

Alright, I will wait for it.

Biggest challenge the coffee category faces?

There's a lot of people coming in and if we don't do it right, we might just wind

up commoditizing the category.

What's a time you took a risk?

When we decided to go into ready-to-drink we didn't really know what we were doing

and yet we decided to still go for it so I would say that's pretty gutsy.

How cool is it seeing your brands on the grocery shelf?

It's awesome. But you know what's even better?

When you actually get to see people pick it from the grocery aisle themselves.

That's winning.

So team conflict: strength or weakness?

Healthy conflict, definitely a strength.

Healthy, got it.

What makes your team awesome?

They just come from very diverse backgrounds, they come all of

different nationalities and they're just very fun to be around with.

Hey guys, you want to do a selfie?

What are we doing here? Oh selfies; alright hey smile!

Thanks guys.

The last thing you talked to your boss about?

How to make the innovation process faster.

The first thing you do when you get to the office?

I have a cup of coffee. I don't function without coffee.

Get this man some caffeine!

What always makes you laugh?

When my family sends me videos of my nephew

just doing fun stuff back at home, that puts a smile on my face.

Alright, the best thing to happen to you today?

I went for a run this morning and

there was a little deer just grazing on the side.

I mean, what a sight.

Lucky!

Favorite thing about Nestle's awesome new digs?

I mean have you seen this view? Doesn't get better than that.

I know, I want to move in.

If you weren't a marketing guy, what would you be?

Probably a chef.

Oh Chef Leo!

Iced or nitro?

Definitely nitro.

What's your personal mantra?

You don't know what you don't know.

I did not know that.

How do you plan to spend your 401k?

Retire on a beach somewhere and set up a little bed & breakfast

that would be cool.

That sounds awesome.

Georgetown or Dupont Circle?

Love Georgetown!

Your commute: love it or hate it?

Love it! I mean I get to walk across the Key Bridge every day.

What's something about Nestlé that almost no one knows?

How much we do for the coffee farmers.

If anybody could just see how much we give back

the plants, the training. I wish everybody knew about that.

Can you say "Nestle's the place for me" in as many languages as you know?

Blowing my mind.

Leo, thanks it's been great but last and most important question.

Of course.

Where can I get a coffee for the road?

Right behind you. Bye!

Okay, bye, au revoir

Adios!
