hi I'm Tripp and I blog about retirement at retired guy usa.com this for
information and education only I'm not a financial adviser or an attorney or a
medical professional am NOT your mom so you need to educate yourself accordingly
and speaking today about the flu season for 2018 to 19 going back to the Year
1918 that was when they had the big flu epidemic there was something like half
and half a billion people were infected and those around 50 to 100 million died
I remember my dad showed me this little old house near near our farm where a
family took refuge in 1918 from the flu epidemic and they gradually all died the
whole family just died one after the other as the story that was handed down
in the local community for well 400 years the 2017-18 flu season the last
one we had cost about 17 to 20 billion dollars and that includes the medical
expenses of everyone who was sued plus the time away from work lost wages and
all that it was a real flu emergency though the last year schools closed a
lot of schools closed ers were backed up with a cig they had
triage tents in front of some hospitals because there were no beds and supplies
medical medical supplies and equipment was really short at the time they were
running out of a lot of stuff you need to vac
vaccinate yourself and your family and your friends make sure they get
vaccinated as well you know it's not just about you it's about the herd
immunity that's a chi Rd if a lot of us a lot of us get vaccinated there's less
opportunity for the for the flu to spread and everybody become infected
it's really just science why throw away all this knowledge we have all this
great science some people don't believe in the flusche
and that's kind of really ignorant thinking everybody needs to get
vaccinated somehow whether it's a shot or whether it's the where the the nasal
vaccine there are no excuses time it only takes a few minutes to go by and
get and get vaccinated you have plenty of time it's it's much less time than
getting sick or infecting others the cost some a lot of places the flu
vaccine is free or is cheap did you forget no there's no excuse it's
really selfish to say that you forgot when when you remember so many
unimportant things this is this is very this is between life and death some of
this those who send their kids to school sick or who go to work go to work sick
you're not being heroic that's more ignorance why do you want to to sicken
other people you need to take care of yourself and stay home there's more
information about this as WW CDC gov the Centers for Disease Control who should
get the vaccine every one of six months of age and older should have it by
October before the beginning of flu activity and for this year I think for
eighteen to nineteen I think the CDC is recommending either the injection or the
nasal spray but consult sure your professional about this is it's most
important to make sure the certain high-risk groups are vaccinated first
versus healthcare workers which is kind of obvious
doctors are nurses people that work in hospitals nursing homes care facilities
all healthcare workers children under five under five years old if you're 65
and older pregnant women like I said people that work in nursing homes and
people with high-risk medical conditions like respiratory conditions and last
year there were a lot of people who are elderly that died and I believe in
higher percentages and younger people then prevention you avoid sick people if
you're sick avoid other people even if you're not sick avoid other people who
are sick if you have a flu-like illness you should stay at home for at least 24
hours after the fever is gone when there's less chance of it being picked
up by somebody else now the reason you should leave your house would be to go
get medical care or if you needed food hopefully you have a supply of food for
emergencies anyway but you shouldn't be out in the general public if you're
contagious and of course you run the risk during a high high school flu
activity season of catching it from other people
if you when you're sneezing cover your nose or your mouth you don't have a
handkerchief and sneeze into you into your elbow you know your arm should wash
hands often with soap and water soap and hot water is best if that's not
available then use one of those little alcohol-based hand rubs that's oh that's
better than nothing avoid touching your eyes or your nose and your mouth whether
you're sick or not because you can pick up that as the germs from a lot of
places even paper that you handle and doorknobs if there's a lot of flu
activity you probably shouldn't hate shake hands with people which I always
thought was kind of unclean anyway I never like to shake hands you should
clean clean disinfect services of places where you are allowed to say like Oh
things you that you use like a phones and the doorknobs even your your cell
phone well these are some of the things I can think of for this flu season so I
hope that you'll pay attention to it and and try to take care of yourself and
take care of the people around you and I am Tripp and I hope you visit my blog
