Locklear's experience helps lift Team USA to podium

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, Oct.

8, 2017 – Ashton Locklear couldn't contribute to the United States medal haul at the World Championships in Montreal.

Instead, the women's team veteran contributed to her teammates success.

Locklear missed the podium in her lone event final, the uneven bars, finishing eighth.

That was an emotional letdown for Locklear has endured heartache over the years with injuries and a near miss in 2016, serving as the one of three Olympic replacement athletes.

Coming into Montreal, Locklear was the lone women's gymnast on the team with Worlds experience.

That proved vital to rookie teammates Morgan Hurd and Jade Carey.

Hurd won women's all-around gold and silver on the balance beam, while Carey vaulted to a pair of silver medals on vault and floor exercise.

"I came back to this worlds as a veteran, and I just wanted to guide them because I know how it is when you're young and on this stage, it is pretty overwhelming.

So, I just tried to guide them the right way and keep them very positive and I guess it turned out," said Locklear, who was a Worlds team champion in 2014, when she finished fourth on the uneven bars.

Carey's improbable rise from Junior Olympic competitor to Worlds medalist within one year has been staggering.

She credited Locklear with playing an important role in helping her ease into her first major international event.

"We were roommates, and we were together all the time and she would ask me questions," Locklear said before touching on Carey's vault routine.

"She didn't know we had to warmup in the back and just go.

So I had to tell her to take longer in the warmup, take your time and when you go out there its all on the floor, just gotta do what you gotta do.".

Helping her teammates may have also helped ease the sting of disappointment.

It certainly helped with the accomplishments.

"Definitely having Ashton as the most experienced and role model, it's helped a lot because she knows what to expect and she's done all this before," Carey said.

Rhonda Faehn, senior vice president of women's program, said Locklear's contributions behind the scenes were critical.

"This group was just awesome and Ashton was so caring and really helpful, especially with Jade in the warm-ups, telling her where to be, even helping pick out leotards," Faehn said.

"She was instrumental in helping the team rally around each other, especially after Ragan (Smith) went down to injury.".

Locklear came to Montreal with one mission, to secure a medal on the uneven bars.

A clean routine in qualifying gave her a berth to the final, but it didn't take long into the final to see it was not going to be.

Troubled from the start of her routine, Locklear later came up short on her toe-half and hopped off the bar.

The tears came immediately and while she remounted to finish, her energy was drained.

"I've had a little bit of a sore shoulder so I feel like that's probably some of it but whatever happens happens for a reason and sometimes you just have to accept it.

Locklear may have rushed back into the fold after having spent last year on the bubble and missing out on the Olympics.

"I feel like I came back a little quick after taking some time off and that was probably some of my problem," she said.

"Not exactly being in the best shape I could possibly be, so going home getting healthy means getting back to where I was in 2016.".

Long term, the Charlotte-native wasn't looking beyond the immediate future to next year's Worlds in Doha, Qatar, or even the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

"I'm just going to get home and get healthy.

How To Help Your Cat During Fireworks! 5 Tips on How To Keep Your Cat Calm This Bonfire Night! - Duration: 4:08.

remember remember your cats this November's fireworks bonfires stress

I see no reason why your favorite feline should ever be in distress hi guys

welcome back to Channel it's Claire and Rags and today we have

five tips to help a frightened cat during fireworks now this time of year

in a lot of people are using fireworks celebrations whether it's bonfire night

or coming up to you at Christmas and New Year it's important to make sure your

cat is happy and safe during these times well if your cat is much more used to

being outside than inside they might find themselves a lot a bit stressed out

or frightening to the all the noises going on outside so me and Rags have five

tips for you to help your frightened cat during fireworks first one is keeping

them indoors now this is an obvious one and what it is probably the most

important one being outside for a cat during firework season is

truly truly not a good idea now one really good way to make sure

they're cat is inside when there are fireworks and bonfire going on is to

check out any fireworks displays or bonfires that are planned in your local

area find out where they are when they are and what time so you know when

exactly to keep your cat inside the second one is destruction of part one

now join us play at your cat is going to tell it spend a lot of time indoors and

Casti get bored especially if your cat is more of an outdoor cat than an indoor

cat they are more likely to get boarded quicker

why not try some of our cat TV we have some fantastic episodes

it is the excitement of being outside within the safety of your home third one

is let them pace now if your cat is going to be spending a lot of time

indoors especially again if they used to being outdoors having all these

unfamiliar noises going on outside their home could be quite stressful for them

now some cats cope with these kinds of things with pacing around and meowing

and howling and as annoying maybe as this is some this is just the way that

some cats came and I suggest that you let them get on with it

obviously if your cats become very distressed or very upset and make sure

they're somewhere that your cat can go and hide somewhere that is quiet somewhere

that is warm and somewhere that is cozy I suggest a cat carrier with a blanket over

it that seems to be Rag's go-to you place one is distraction part 2 - now if

cat TV just doesn't float your cat's boat you're going to need something else

to distract your cat from whatever is going on outside all the noises or the

flashes or the bangs so make sure that you've got lots of toys and games for

your cats to play and games that are maybe reward based so they can have a couple

of treats now and then this will hopefully mean that if your cat is too

busy hunting a catnip mouse or chasing something with feathers on they are not

really going to notice anything that's going on outside fifth one is calm them

with help now I've said it many times before but getting a pheromone diffuser

is such a great idea it really works especially for Ragy that paired with

some of our calming music for cats hopefully your cat will be so so chilled

out they won't even notice what's going on outside now I can attest to the

effectiveness of good old Feliway diffuser and I use it every year with

Rosie and it makes the treat and as for our music well two million cats can't be

wrong thanks for watching guys I hope you find

these tips useful and they help you keep your frightened outdoor cat nice and

calm during the fireworks season now if you have any extra and tips around this

please feel free to leave them in the comment section below I hope they have a

really good a fifth of the November and make sure that you keep your cat

nice and safe and happy remember remember not just in November

चीन और पाकिस्तान CPEC के नाम पर सपने और भ्रम बेच रहे हैं - Duration: 3:20.

The vice chairman of Niti Aayog Dr Rajiv Kumar stated that China and Pakistan were selling

dreams and illusion in the name of China Pakistan Economic Corridor and this activity would

only benefit five percent elite Pakistanis and not the common man of that country.

Pakistan, Kumar said is successfully leveraging its relationship with China like they leveraged

relationship with US in 1980's to its best, with the sole aim to counter India and it

continues to be so.

CPEC, as per the Niti Aayog VC, will have no impact on India, as it is not an Indian

problem or issue, but a wonderful Chinese ambition of which Pakistan has decided to

become a client state and transit route for Chinese goods.

Kumar was speaking on sidelines of a function in Srinagar 'Role of Youth and Economy of

J&K' organized by Delhi based organization Bureau of Research on Industries and Economic

Fundamentals.

"This whole hope, that there would be tremendous multiplier effect of (CPEC) and Chinese investors

and traders are going to set up units there.

I don't think so that will happen," Kumar told ET, adding, "This is a dream and sort

of illusion that is being sold.

This is part of Border Road Initiative and China had the centuries old ambition of getting

access to warm waters of Arabian Sea and has succeeded in that."

Kumar says that this is wonderful Chinese ambition as it has always aspired to be the

middle kingdom to which whole world should come and pay obeisance.

"Pakistanis have agreed to this.

We are still, at best, thinking about it.

I hope we don't have to do it."

"Pakistani rulers have tied themselves with china in such a way which is not going to

be good for people of Pakistan.

Pakistani people are not very close to and have no traditional or cultural relationship

with China," said Kumar adding, "This (CPEC) is therefore a decision by a small

elite for their own benefit as has been the case always.

The driving force is not their love for china, but a smart design to counter India and amplify

geostrategic power."

While referring to a conversation of Brijesh Mishra, who served as principal secretary

of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with a Chinese delegation in his presence,

Kumar quoted him as saying, "Look no country is big enough in the whole world to put India

in its pocket, neither USA nor China.

We have our identity and status."
