Alright guys what's up Michael Galullo here
you're watching Footballers Advice and today's video that I'm making is about
attending a combine a professional soccer combine wherever that may be in
the U.S. Currently I'm actually heading out to California to attend the Ventura
Pro combine, Ventura County Fusion Pro combine so I'm here in Indianapolis man
about to just wait for this mega bus to come pick me up take me to Chicago I fly
from Chicago to LA and then from LA I'm gonna go and head up to Ventura so I've
never been to this combine before I was recommended to it by a couple of players
that I reached out I've heard some good things about it guys getting picked up
so I don't really know what's gonna happen I'm just kind of bringing you
guys on this journey it's gonna be a vlog style I've never done a vlog before
this is you know the first one that I'm doing so I'm hoping you guys enjoy it
but yeah so I'm gonna take you through everything I mean I got my backpack on
and everything ready to go to train and just be ready to perform
so today's Thursday fly out tomorrow from Chicago on Friday staying at a
friend's place tonight and then fly out Chicago in the morning and then the
trial or the the combines on Saturday and on Sunday then I fly back so enjoy
everything that I'm gonna share with you guys here this isn't my first time going
on a combine situation I've been to multiple combines prior in 2016 in
February which I've shared with you guys and I'll talk deeper into that later but
enjoy and let's see what happens
alright guys so I made it to Chicago the bus dropped us off here which is
actually about a hundred yards away from the train stop that you can take from
Clinton to O'Hare so it's really convenient if you a little travel advice
here if you can take the Mega Buster any other service like the mega bus I would
highly recommend it and here's why the trip to Indy Indianapolis to Chicago is
about a three hour trip by car it's a four hour trip by bus but here's the
thing the ticket for me to get from Indianapolis to Chicago was about $25
and that saves you a lot of time and expense and what I mean by that is is if
you have to find parking in Chicago it can be a big pain with any major city so
if you're driving up that's a big expense at times trying to find parking
then also the gas that you're going to use in order to get up here and then
also if since I'm flying out of O'Hare I would have to put my car in an airport
parking lot and that's going to be very expensive - especially for however many
days I want to stay especially long-term parking so with that being said if you
can use the mega bus or any other bus service like that I would highly
recommend it in order to get you from one city to a bigger city so you can fly
out to get your your your plane so that's it for today I'm gonna go head to
my friend's house and I will catch you guys back when I fly from Chicago to LA
trying to turn pro food time alright guys so leaving my friend's house this
morning in Chicago headed to O'Hare taking the blue line so it's really
efficient it's like three bucks for a subway just to get up there so again
three dollars compared to however much I would have spent in a airport parking
lot is definitely affordable and really nice so headed there and then just gonna
you know take my flight and head to LA so bring you guys along also if you love
the The Futon there that's typical for I guess you could say aspiring
professionals that's you know I can't tell you how many of those I've
slept on too many but part of the grind so that's all you can do but stay along
for the journey and let's see what happens
so I have touchdown in Los Angeles California this is this is really nice
I've never been here before so this is really nice to see and the weather
obviously as soon as you get off the plane absolutely beautiful so I'm gonna
catch a bus from LAX Airport straight to Ventura it's about an hour-and-a-half
drive another travel tip guys for you if you get off the plane go to the front
desk travel information they'll know all the buses you need to take or whatever
type of transportation that you're looking for I guess it's going to cost
around 30 bucks which honestly isn't bad at all
so yeah I'll try allure combines tomorrow and I'll keep you guys along
with the journey
so I'm in my motel that I'm staying at here in LA or Ventura California not too
bad I mean it's uh he actually gave me a two two person bedroom and then also in
here we got ourselves a kitchen which is really nice so not too not too bad at
all we'll little table there fridge and then
the stove top microwave and all that that's gonna come in handy you know it's
nice to cook meals here too and not have to go out so if you can if you guys can
get that that'd be great he upgraded me for no cost which was really nice of him
and then you know there's just a bathroom back back there but hey it's
it's affordable it's cheap it's you know what you got to do so what I will do is
I'm not going to record from now until the combine happens after the combine
happens tomorrow I'll go over the structure I'll show you guys the field
stuff like that kind of tell you guys what I want to think about it and and
how well I thought I played whatever they you know just go into it and see
what happens so so yeah so that's it for today guys today's Friday tomorrow
Saturday 10:30 here LA time so I'm gonna go to bed start time as 9:00 a.m. in the
morning so definitely gonna get a good night's rest and and go from there so I
will see you guys tomorrow so I'm back guys after day number one
with the Ventura County fusion pro combine today went really well to give
you guys a little bit of background about about the Ventura combine they
themselves Ventura have a PDL team called the Ventura County fusion so they
have their PDL team here and then they also hold the combines for players that
come in and want to be seen by USL MLS teams there was five from the coaches
that they introduced there was five five teams that came to today's event it was
the Portland Timbers it was San Jose Earthquakes Reno 1868 FC
and then you had the new expansion franchises which was Nashville and then
you also had Fresno oh six and there was also a representative from Sacramento
Republic so really good start really good combine the format goes an
introduction 9:00 a.m. player meetings or player check-in you
go through a little orientation about Ventura and the PDL team and and kind of
the combine and where it's taken other players and then you get right into to
playing you do a little bit of a warm-up passing stuff like that but then they
want to get you in game scenario so what you go into then how they set it up was
that you're in a team of about I would say we had two subs on our team so it
was actually kind of nice because we got a lot of playing time as players then a
couple of other teams they may have had maybe three four subs but at least with
our team how I remember it was two subs so that was really nice but the format
goes is that there's four teams in total you play 30 minutes and you play three
games so that's really nice because you know that adds up to 90 minutes
sometimes players would split so they'd get you know pretty much a half at 45
minutes to show at least for today I was able to get 60 because another player
got injured so I was playing out wide and it was a really good day for me I
thought I really showed well I really showed my skill set in terms of being
able to attack beat defenders also be a team player where you're contributing
with assists and you know connecting passes so it was really really nice I
had two goals and a handful of assists which was nice today actually two goals
with my left foot even though I'm a right-footed player so that was really
nice to show to the coaching staff so and then afterwards once you're once you
know all the games are concluded the coaching staff comes down and you know
the the teams that are in attendance they tell players how they thought
things went and just pretty much now it's time to rest
and play for tomorrow so that's exactly what I'm doing I actually went to the
grocery store I will film or at least show you guys the field today afterwards
I was more focused on you know meeting the coaches speaking with them when you
go ahead and actually grat well let me show you first this is recovery I went
to Vaughn's grocery store quick up the road here like I said I'm staying in the
motel so I have a kitchen which is really nice and you guys have seen so
for a little bit later of a lunch I'm doing salmon I have some asparagus half
of it I'm gonna use for a late lunch and then half of it I'm gonna use for dinner
as well and then I also have some things like chocolate milk for a recovery I got
a gallon of water for 99 cents you know what I should do actually put together
maybe like a checklist for you guys on what to maybe bring and then also when
you're at the combine what to eat how to or how to you know look for things in
the grocery store that's cheap that's that's still healthy I mean because I
think all of this this was a little bit more expensive but some of this will
last me into other meals as well so when you when you split it up it actually
doesn't come out to be too much but but yeah maybe I'll do that so stick around
guys for that maybe hopefully by the time this video post it would be in the
description if not you guys will and can't expect that from you just give me
a little bit of time but anyway um what else for for that so then tomorrow I
will show you guys the fields and the the situation there maybe I can record a
little bit depending on if I'm done and there's the last game playing I was
actually in the last game and then the coaches came down so I really couldn't
do much oh also one other thing that I'd like to show you guys so I don't know
what travel advice tip I'm on but anyway combine tip number one this beautiful
thing this is a packet and in it I have my resume this is very very
important for you guys to bring if you want to be remembered I mean okay you
can stand out and stuff the combines that's great but here's the thing
they're gonna go back to wherever they're from and they're they're gonna
have their notes and things like that but if you can give them something
physical something that they can later on look back and say oh yeah I remember
that player here's a CV today here's his resume and you know they can look and
see okay here's where I've played you know college club whatever this is a
great thing great thing to have again it has my contact information so if you
want to get in contact with me through my email my phones on here
you know important information like data birth height weight position club
history achievements and then I also have my references at the bottom so they
can always give someone else to call back say hey you know this player came
to this combine you know what have you seen from them what do you like about
them whatever I think it's a great marketing tool you guys should have a CV
a resume on you at all times whether you're going to combines or you're going
abroad knocking on doors I think it's just absolutely necessary and then the
last thing to what I will do when I finish up this combine is I will I will
send up a follow email you know one of these things - okay combine tip number
two email you should email teams before the team's that say they're going to be
in attendance you should email them before the combine allowing them to know
okay such-and-such player is gonna be here you should email them after the
combine hey thank you you know stay in touch just as a that's great get any of
their contact information and then what was the Oh agents send an email out to
an agent say hey I'm gonna be at this combine these are the teams in
attendance here's my CV highlight video if you like it great can you please send
a message to these teams as well letting them know that I'll be
that's also a great thing to do because you're just trying to get your name out
there and in a way you're just trying to create hype but you're just trying to
make you know yourself aware it's better than going into this blind and cold it's
always better to have a reference or an agent that can speak on your behalf to
these clubs when you're going to these combines it helps tremendously trust me
and we can say combine tip number three is what was my last one anyway that
might have been it agents if I think about it I'll let you guys know but
that's it for today's video I'm definitely going to recover
feed up lots of water and pretty much just enjoying the rest of the day it's
hot outside in California in Southern California I'm not going to go outside
unless I need to to pick up groceries for dinner but that's it so I'll check
you guys out tomorrow so here's the field guys that will that we were
playing on for the second day this is the same field that we played on the
first day just your regular like college Stadium there with the bleachers track
and then you have the turf obviously with the soccer field so it's really
nice the turf I would say I mean compared to other places that I've
played on this turf is definitely really nice so definitely a quality field and
yeah so getting after it today I'm here early again as usual so just gonna get
after it today and kind of go from there so so that wraps up today's video guys
you know after the second day I'd have to say I think the combine went really
well especially for myself personally I mean I played really well had another
goal today had my hands in a couple of assists as well for some guys scoring
some other goals so overall it was a really good experience I would say
though this combine compared to others I've had a really good experience you
know sometimes it's hard going to these combines when players haven't played
with each other before you're trying to get used to each other how each other
plays I mean everyone plays differently everyone's been at different levels so
sometimes it can be really but overall the second day was was
really good for me thought I showcased myself well talked
to the coaches Network to pass out my CV again to the coaches who maybe didn't
get it the first day and and yeah so after that you know the combine ended at
one but it was still the same structure as yesterday as at Saturday so nothing
changed you still play three games 30 minutes each game and so you get a total
of 90 minutes again to show to show yourself but yeah it was it was a good
experience you know afterwards and the combine ended it one
I went from Ventura down to LA enjoyed myself in Santa Monica went to the pier
there also traveled down to Venice Beach and now here I am at LAX so my flight
leaves it 11:45 lax time I don't get into Chicago until 6:00 in the morning
and then I gotta take a mega bus down to to Indy so definitely gonna be a long
night I don't know if you guys can tell I'm really tired I mean this Sun - out
in LA I am tired I drink a lot of water but it's it's a lot so but overall very
good weekend very successful weekend like I said you want to get out there
and you just want to showcase yourself in front of as many people as you can
another tip though for you guys that combines network talk on the sidelines
get out of your comfort zone and talk to people you never know who's connected to
who you never know who you might run into and
you know who may be able to put you somewhere so those are other things that
I would recommend for you guys also I took Ober
around Santa Monica to get to Venice Beach I tried it and out to for the
first time since I've never been here out in LA or California for that matter
so I tried it in and out for all you guys on the west coast I did enjoy it so
so I would recommend it also for someone to try otherwise you know just do the
best you can it combines and I really hope you guys enjoyed this video so
maybe I'll do a little bit more when I get back into Indy but honestly that's
it so thanks guys thank you guys for watching this footballers advice and I
hope you guys enjoyed the next video
