Syria Russia revenge strike on US troops could spark huge crisis the a sled

airstrikes early this morning has risked provoking a global conflict with one

leading u.s. analysts warning that a revenge attack could strike US troops

who are surrounded in Syria the US military should be on alert for a

revenge attack from the Syria Russian alliance following the joint Western

airstrikes this morning alongside the UK and France Walid Phares an expert in

global military dynamics said the US troops based in Syria were vulnerable to

a retaliation that could set off a global crisis more two thousand US

troops are based in northeastern Syria and until yesterday President Trump had

planned on withdrawing them relatively soon

however the president's decision to bomb targets against Syrian regime has

sparked fears of an escalating global conflict that could spill into a world

war dot mister Fairs pointed to the US bases in Syria which are originally been

there to fight is is as a key crisis point in the conflict

he told Fox News if the Syrian regime decides to stop using the chemical

weapons then the operation is over however if there are reactions which I

anticipate not necessarily in Damascus but other parts of Syria where we have

assets it's a different story we have 2,000 troops in the northeastern part of

Syria those troops are now surrounded strategically by the Iranians

the Russians Hezbollah by Assad my concern is what's the follow-up what

is the status quo for these troops now that we have administered one strike I'm

really eager to know if the enemy is gonna strike back against our troops

that's the biggest question of the night for me Britain joined the u.s. and

France in a massive assault on chemical weapons production and storage

facilities near Damascus in Homs in retaliation for an attack on Syrian

civilians using chlorine gas last weekend following the strikes this

morning mr. Trump tweeted this morning a perfectly executed strike last night

thank you to France in the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power

of their fine military could not have had a better result

mission accomplished so proud of our great military which will soon be after

the spending of billions have fully approved dollars the finest that our

country has ever had there won't be anything or anyone even close

Trump now faces Comey's moral assault - Duration: 3:34.

Trump now faces Comey's moral assault

Washington (CNN)James Comey, anointing himself as America's moral conscience, called on the

nation to recognize that Donald Trump's actions add up to an immoral, malignant presidency

that insults core democratic values.

Comey set up an unprecedented public challenge from someone of his stature to a sitting commander

in chief, framing the most penetrating critique of Trump's White House yet from an establishment

figure.

"The foundation of this country is in jeopardy when we stop measuring our leaders against

that central value of the truth," Comey said in an exclusive interview with ABC News chief

anchor George Stephanopoulos.

His indictment came at the start of a media blitz to promote his book "A Higher Loyalty,"

publishing Tuesday -- 11 months after he was fired.

The action sparked claims the President was trying to obstruct justice over the Russia

probe and led to the appointment of a special counsel.

The former FBI director's appearance threw into focus questions that will be at play

over the next 10 days: Which version of events will Americans find most credible -- that

of the former FBI director or the man who fired him?

Will Comey's healthy sense of his own ego and place in history serve to alienate any

undecided Americans rather than convince them of his arguments about Trump?

And -- ultimately -- will there be a political price to pay for the President?

The media buzz around the interview and its Washington reverberations could also carry

consequences.

The New York Times published a full-page op-ed reminding the President he's not above the

law, a reminder of how real fears of a systemic political crisis in the event Trump attempts

to fire special counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who

is overseeing his probe.Another issue is whether Comey's critique about the President can penetrate

the permanent storm that whirls around Trump and fundamentally reshape already polarized

opinion about the President's behavior.

A recent ABC News poll showed that Americans found Comey more believable than Trump, by

a margin of 48% to 32%.

If the fierce campaign by Trump world to discredit the former FBI director's book fails to shift

that number, it could suggest that the President is in for lasting political damage.

But it's not as if Comey's view of the President represents a sudden shock to the electorate.

For example, his descriptions of a President prone to lying are borne out by the facts

of the last 15 months.

The picture he paints of an almost feudal patriarchy presided over by Trump appears

to be validated by the way the President casually fires aides on Twitter and undermines his

top aides.

Still, most criticisms of the President by elites like Comey merely serve to solidify

the views of his supporters that he is being unfairly maligned.

Comey called for a national moment of reflection, in which everybody, regardless of partisan

views, to evaluate the President and to consider whether he presents a threat to America itself.

The simplicity of that challenge seemed an attempt to cut through the chaos, recriminations,

wild mood swings and political meltdowns of the last 15 months, in which perspective has

often been the victim of the next outrage.

Comey discounted previous theories by some Trump critics that the President is incapable

or not mentally up to the job, arguing that what he sees as an ego-driven presidency based

on lies, demands for loyalty from subordinates and calculated deceit is no accident.

"He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations

and knows what's going on.

I don't think he's medically unfit to be president.

I think he's morally unfit to be president," Comey said.

"A person who sees moral equivalence in Charlottesville, who talks about and treats women like they're

pieces of meat, who lies constantly about matters big and small and insists the American

people believe it, that person's not fit to be president of the United States, on moral

grounds," Comey said.

Comey stressed that he was not making a political point, saying he did not care what people

thought about hot button issues like guns or immigration.

"There's something more important than that that should unite all of us, and that is our

president must embody respect and adhere to the values that are at the core of this country.

The most important being truth," he said.

"This president is not able to do that.

He is morally unfit to be president."

More California cities may join fight against state's pro illegal immigrant policies - Duration: 2:11.

More California cities may join fight against states pro-illegal immigrant policies

More local governments in California appear to be resisting the state's efforts to prevent

the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, reports said Monday.

At least a dozen local governments have already voted to either join or support the federal

lawsuit against the state or the approved resolutions opposing the states sanctuary

law that limits police cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions took legal action against the state last month, targeting

three state law statutes concerning illegal immigrants.

The DOJ argued that the laws are unconstitutional and a plain violation of federal statute

and common sense.

But another blow to Californias state government may be coming this week, with the city of

Los Alamitos in Orange Country voting Monday to reconfirm its commitment to opt out of

the state law.

Los Alamitos was the first city to rebel against the state and already voted in favor of exempting

itself from the sanctuary state law last month.

To officially approve the motion, the council of Los Alamitos will have to vote again on

Monday.

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors will decide Tuesday whether to join the Trump

administrations lawsuit against the state.

Most local governments siding with the Trump administration are located in Orange County--

a Republican stronghold-- but some other cities across the state have showed signs of support.

MORE CALIFORNIA CITIES LOOKING TO REJECT STATES SANCTUARY LAW

The city of Escondido in neighboring San Diego County has recently voted to support the lawsuit

along with the small city of Ripon in the state's Central Valley.

Efforts to thwart the sanctuary laws have energized Californias Republicans, who

were long wary of taking a hardline stance towards immigration due to the states changing

demographics.

"When the attorney general of the United States decides to take a firm position against it,

I think that gave a signal to a lot of us that, 'Hey, California is on the wrong side

of this thing,'" said Fred Whitaker, chairman of the Republican Party in Orange County.

"The mobilization that could come from introducing immigration debates into county political

races may be a critical element in a year like 2018 when Democrats will likely be more

mobilized than Republicans," said Louis DeSipio, a political science professor at the University

of California, Irvine.

Barbara Bush to focus on comfort care amid 'failing health,' spokesman says - Duration: 2:58.

Barbara Bush to focus on comfort care amid 'failing health,' spokesman says

Former first lady Barbara Bush is in "failing health" and will not seek additional medical

treatment after a series of recent hospitalizations, a family spokesman said Sunday.

The 92-year-old wife of former President George H.W. Bush will instead focus on comfort care,

a family spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.

Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors,

Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will

instead focus on comfort care.

It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of

her failing health, worrying not for herself thanks to her abiding faith but for

others, the statement read.

She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and

especially the prayers she is receiving, it continued.

McGrath did not elaborate on Bushs health problems.

For decades, she has been treated for Graves' disease, a thyroid condition.

Barbara Bush has been married to George H.W. Bush since 1945, when she was 19 and he was

20.

They have five children, including former President George W. Bush.

A sixth child died as a toddler.

The Bushes have been married longer than any presidential couple in American history and

Barbara Bush is one of only two first ladies who was also the mother of a president.

The other was Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams and mother of John Quincy Adams.

The former first lady wrote Smith College's alumnae magazine last month she's "still old

and still in love with the man" she married in 1945, the Boston Globe reported.

I have had great medical care and more operations than you would believe.

Im not sure God will recognize me; I have so many new body parts!

Also, George Bush has given me the world.

He is the best thoughtful and loving, she said.U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

Nikki Haley tweeted Sunday that Barbara Bush is "a woman of great faith, great strength,

and an unwavering love of country."

Former U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, now the permanent U.S. representative to NATO,

described Bush as "one of America's most-loved women," while "The View" co-host Meghan McCain

called her "a woman of great strength, patriotism and an iconic first lady of our times who

has touched and inspired countless lives."

George H.W. Bush, 93, also has had health issues in recent years. In April 2017, he was

released from a hospital in Houston after being treated for two weeks for a mild case

of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.

Months earlier, he was at Houston's Methodist Hospital for 16 days, also for pneumonia.

The nation's 41st president also was hospitalized in 2015 in Maine, where he and his wife spend

summers at their home in Kennebunkport, after falling at home and breaking a bone in his

neck.

He was hospitalized in Houston in December 2014 for about a week for shortness of breath

and spent Christmas 2012 in intensive care for a bronchitis-related cough and other issues.

Bush, who served as president from 1989 to 1993, has a form of Parkinson's disease and

uses a motorized scooter or a wheelchair for mobility.

He also served as a congressman, CIA director and Ronald Reagan's vice president.
