A family reality series centered on a wealthy Southern real estate mogul, Chrisley Knows
Best premiered in 2014, and featured middle daughter Savannah Chrisley's transformation
from beauty queen, to budding fashion designer.
"You know, if we're having a bad day, we just go shopping.
It's fun"
She's become such a breakout star that when the show's parent network, USA, ordered spinoffs
around the family, she and her older brother Chase were tapped to star in one slated for
Spring 2018.
If you're a die-hard fan, you may feel like you're already besties with the show's self-proclaimed
Southern belle, but there's an off-screen side of Savannah that just might surprise
you.
Here's the truth about Savannah Chrisley.
Surviving a car accident
In January 2017, Chrisley revealed that she was involved in a serious car accident that
left her with a broken vertebrae, numbness in her hands and fingers, and a lot of pain.
She posted,
"My floor mat had gotten stuck behind my pedals so I looked down for a brief second to try
and get it out of the way and then I realized that I was headed straight towards the guardrails.
I tried to over correct but it didn't help."
The accident was also traumatic for her father, Todd Chrisley, who told People that when he
got the call,
"I fell to my knees.
[...] I said, 'It's Savannah.'
[...] I jumped up and threw on some clothes and I got in the car and was at the hospital
by the time they got her there.
[...] It was just a horrific experience seeing her lying there."
Fortunately, Todd told People his daughter is expected to make a full recovery.
"How many Chrisleys does it take to feed somebody soup…"
"You feed em like they're a toddler."
"Open up"
Faith over fear
Chrisley debuted her own clothing line for HSN in July 2017.
"With my line Faith Over Fear, I was very particular on fabrics and fit, because I wanted
clothing that would fit every body type and every age"
According to People, she picked the name "Faith Over Fear" because it's her personal motto.
She said,
"[It's] something that I have lived by for awhile now.
I feel like so many people, especially my generation and younger, we let our fear consume
us so much that we just don't pursue our dreams."
Not surprisingly, her entrepreneurial, clothing-hound dad was completely on board.
She said,
"He loves all of the pieces I have in the line.
I just love all the fabrics and so does he.
So he's extremely happy with it."
No sore loser
"Greater Nashville Savannah Chrisley, you are Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2016"
In October 2015, Savannah was crowned Miss Tennessee Teen USA.
Thanking her fellow nominees, she posted, "Any one of these girls could have won the
crown!"
Then in January 2016, Savannah was just as gracious when she represented Tennessee at
the Miss Teen USA pageant, and lost.
"Savannah Chrisley, Tennessee"
According to E! Online, she made the semi-finals, but was eliminated before the top 5.
Savannah took the loss in stride by posting a picture with Carissa Morrow from Nevada,
writing,
"And this is a friendship that will last a lifetime […] I may have not taken home the
crown but I sure did take home one heck of a friend!!"
Talk about making a graceful exit.
College rules
Given the overbearing personality her dad often showcases on Chrisley Knows Best, it's
no surprise that his daughter's enjoying life away from home, at college.
"When you grown, you gone.
That means you come off of momma and daddy's payroll.
I'm gonna give you a hundred dollars.
For the day.
"No honey, for the week"
She even got some rather uncharacteristically chill advice from her dad, telling Hello!
In 2015,
"[He] told me I need to have at least a 3.0 GPA or pay my own way."
It's a relatively easy ask, considering Savannah is said to have graduated high school a year
early thanks to her A+ average.
After her freshman year, Savannah told People,
"Doing things by myself and not having my dad all up in my business is pretty awesome!
I love him to death, but sometimes he's just got to let go a little bit."
She used to be shy
Savannah says was just 15 years old when the Chrisley Knows Best experience began.
And she admitted to USA Today that being thrust into the spotlight was challenging, saying,
"It was a lot of change at once and that was really difficult.
It's caused me to grow up a lot faster, which has its pros and cons.
I've come a long way since the show started.
At the beginning of the show, I was actually kind of shy."
Given the starlet's aforementioned experience with pageants, that last part is a little
hard to believe, but we're glad she's gotten used to the fame.
Real world crushes
"She needs to be with somebody who's employed.
Cuz we done dealt with enough scrubs"
For around two years, Savannah dated her on-again, off-again boyfriend, country singer Blaire
Hanks.
That relationship was initially a tough pill for Todd to swallow, as witnessed on the show...
"I'm not stalking Savannah.
Did I go on my phone and follow the GPS to make sure she was safe?
Yes"
...But he was put out of his misery when Savannah announced in January 2017 that it was over
for good.
"You guys have been following Blaire and I from the very beginning, and he and I are
no longer dating"
She then started seeing NBA player Luke Kennard, but after a sketchy breakup that had her saying
she "dodged a bullet", Savannah began a relationship with NHL player Nic Kerdiles.
But Savannah revealed in March 2016 that she reassures her type-A dad by saying,
"I go to church every Sunday, and my boyfriend and I have said: 'If God's not in the center
of your relationship, then it's never going to truly work out.'
So my dad's definitely learned to trust me with it."
