USA news on Youtube Apr 2 2018

Yes, Russia is a threat -- but America needs to play a shrewder game.

Here's what that means

Several weeks ago, former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found

slumped over a park bench in the English town of Salisbury.

It was determined they were victims of a nerve agent attack, which left both in critical

condition.

That nerve agent is alleged to have been manufactured and possessed illegally by Russia, and the

UK immediately blamed Moscow for the attack.

If Russia were behind the attack, which is highly likely, it is possibly the countrys

most significant intrusion into NATO territory since the radiation poisoning of another former

Russian spy, Alexander Litvinenko, in 2006.

As for potential Russian motives, it is speculated Skripal had been working with the UKs foreign

intelligence service, MI6.

The UK expelled 23 Russian diplomats and spies, and Russia, which denies the attack to the

point of concocting conspiracy theories about why the chemical weapon originated in America

or the UK, responded in turn by expelling 23 British diplomats and spies.

Meanwhile in America, the Trump administration just sanctioned Russian entities involved

in cyber-attacks and election interference. And now, in the face of continued Russian

intransigence over the poisoning of Skripal and his daughter, America is expelling 60

Russian diplomats and spies, and closing Russias Seattle consulate.

Senior Trump administration officials said that all of the Russians expelled were spies

working under diplomatic cover, including at the United Nations.

The administration believes there is an unacceptably high number of Russian intelligence operatives

in the U.S.

The officials also said that the Seattle consulate was a counter-intelligence concern because

of its proximity to a U.S. Navy base.

This diplomatic row only serves to illustrate the trend of significantly deteriorating relations

between Russia and the West.

Even if Russia is just a spoiler, they are a spoiler with a massive nuclear arsenal.

We must respect the fact that this arsenal poses an existential threat to the United

States.

And a declining power, especially one with as many nukes as Russia has, can be dangerous.

America expelling so-called Russian diplomats is an appropriate response to Russias brazen

attack on Skripal and his daughter.

If Russia abuses its privilege of having operatives on our shoresdiplomatic or otherwiseit

should face the consequences.

And in general, America should want to reduce the number of spieseven those under diplomatic

coverthat Russia has on American soil.

But some hope that this is only the beginning of a more aggressive stance toward Russia.

The question remains: Where would such an aggressive stance lead, and what would it

accomplish for America?

America should certainly keep a close eye on Russia.

Nominally, Russias nuclear arsenal is on par with Americas.

And because of its massive geography, Russia borders many areasincluding Europe and

Chinawhere America has troops, or has interests, military or economic.

Erdogan calls Netanyahu 'terrorist', Israel 'terrorist state

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

over his comments targeting Turkey's ongoing military operation in the northwestern Syrian

region of Afrin.

His remarks on Sunday came in response to Netanyahu's earlier comments rejecting Ankara's

"moral lessons" over the Israeli army's killing of Palestinian protesters in Gaza, and labelling

Erdogan as someone who "bombs Kurdish villagers".

"He says our soldiers are oppressing people in Afrin.

Netanyahu, you are very weak, very poor," Erdogan told the ruling Justice and Development

Party (AK Party) congress in the southern Adana province.

"We are dealing with terrorists, but you are not.

Because you are a terror state," Erdogan added.

Calling the Israeli prime minister "an occupier" in Palestine, Erdogan said: "You are also

a terrorist.

History is recording what you have done to all those oppressed Palestinians ... We are

not guilty of any act of occupation."

At least 17 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,500 were wounded on Friday when Israeli

forces opened fire on "Land Day" protesters near the Gaza Strip's eastern border.

Land Day is an event commemorating six Palestinian citizens of Israel who were shot dead by Israeli

forces after protesting the government's confiscation of large swaths of Palestinian land on March

30, 1976.

On Saturday, Erdogan "strongly" condemned "the Israeli government over its inhumane

attack" in Gaza.

Friday's rallies were also the start of a six-week protest that culminates on May 15,

the day the Palestinians call "Nakba," or the Catastrophe, when Israel was officially

declared a state 70 years ago and more than 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their

homes.

The demonstrators are demanding that Palestinian refugees be allowed the right of return to

towns and villages which their families fled from, or were driven out of, in 1948.

Turkey - together with the Syrian opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebel group - last

month launched an air-and-ground operation into Afrin to vanquish the US-backed Kurdish

People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters near its border.

Trump 'NO MORE DACA DEAL - Duration: 2:20.

Trump 'NO MORE DACA DEAL

President Donald Trump again called for an end to the filibuster and said there will

be no deal with Democrats on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known

as DACA.

"Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous

liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release.

Getting more dangerous.

'Caravans' coming.

Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW.

NO MORE DACA DEAL," Trump tweeted Sunday morning.in two more tweets Sunday morning, Trump threatened

to dismantle the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which he called Mexico's

"cash cow," if the country doesn't reduce the flow of immigrants coming across the southern

US border.

Trump also tweeted that "big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of DACA.

They want in on the act!"

The President followed up on his tweets as he went into Easter Sunday church service

in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"Mexico has got to help us at the border.

If they're not going to help us at the border, it's a very sad thing between two countries.

Mexico has got to help us at the border.

And a lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA and we're

going to have to really see," he said.

"They had a great chance.

The Democrats blew it.

They had a great, great chance.

But we'll have to take a look.

But Mexico has got to help us at the border.

They flow right through Mexico.

They send them into the United States.

Can't happen that way anymore."

This isn't the first time Trump has called for a change to Senate rules by invoking the

"nuclear option," which would permit a simple majority to move forward on a measure.

Last May, he called for Congress to move to a simple majority to pass health care and

tax reform bills.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, has emphatically stated he is against changing

senate rules to initiate a nuclear option for the legislative filibuster.

Current Senate rules mandate that 60 senators -- three-fifths of the 100-member Senate -- must

agree in order to end debate and move forward to a vote on a measure or piece of legislation

-- a process known as invoking cloture.

Petition for Meryl Streep to play Princess Leia picks up steam - Duration: 1:55.

Petition for Meryl Streep to play Princess Leia picks up steam

May the force be with Meryl?

An online petition wants the beloved Oscar-winning actress to play Princess Leia in Star Wars:

Episode IX, as Metro reports.

As of late Sunday afternoon, the petition had more than 8,400 supporters out of

a 9,000 target.

The role was made famous by Carrie Fisher, who died in December 2016.

Fisher appeared posthumously in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which hit theaters in December

2017.

The petition notes remarks that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill made in October 2017 about

plans for Leia to be more prominent in the ninth episode of the movie franchise.

MARK HAMILL REVEALS 'STAR WARS: EPISODE IX' ENDING GEORGE LUCAS REALLY WANTED

As the fans of STAR WARS and Carrie Fisher, we really want Leia to shine in Episode IX

and we certainly do not want her to be written out of the film abruptly without a reasonable

plot, it explains.

Therefore, recasting Leia is a more ideal option for us and we believe that Meryl Streep

is an ideal candidate to play Leia.

The petition referenced Streeps starring role in the 1990 big-screen version of Fishers

1987 novel, Postcards from the Edge, as well as the friendship the two women shared.

The online petition concluded with the line, May the force be with Carrie Fisher, Meryl

Streep and Princess Leia.

Fans, however, may want to hold their breath over the speculation: her representative described

the rumors of Streep being looked at for the role as "untrue," ET Canada reported Friday.

Star Wars: Episode IX is due to hit theaters in December 2019.
