Ellie!
oh! Thank You.
Hi! My name is Radek
and you're watching Radventure
Today I'm taking you for a road trip with me!
Have you packed your socks yet?
yes!
that's my wife ;)
Our first destination
is the town of Terlingua
located in west Texas, close to the Rio Grande river
about an 8 hour drive from Austin
We just made a quick stop in the middle of literally nowhere
in the middle of a Texas desert
but there is something eye-catching here
especially for tourists and people passionate about fashion
In the middle of this desert there is a Prada store
But it's not a real store. It's an art installation created by Elmgreen and Dragset
It was designed to be a time capsule
and is supposed to change over the years
in relation to the Texas landscape in the background
But it was destroyed a few times by vandals since it's creation in 2005
Right now it looks pretty new
Inside you can find 6 purses and 14 pairs of shoes
The doors are always closed. No one can get inside or shop
It just stands lonely somewhere in the Texas desert
Our next point we have about a 3 hour drive so it's time to move on
Roads of West Texas look like they have no end
You can spot dead, wild animals on sides of roads along with gas stations; a real oasis
We're 1 hour away from our destination but one of us needs a short walk
Terlingua.
Brewster county.
Population 89.
Life here is slow-paced
Just one radio station.
Abandoned hotel and tipi are a great spot to spend a night.
and the old church can be used for Yoga classes.
We just got to our main destination.
Which is the town of Terlingua.
Meaning a town of Ghosts
It was abandoned during World War II.
Before that there were Cinnabar mines. Which is the principal ore for mercury.
There were four mining companies operating at Terlingua.
During World War II the value of mercury dropped and those companies went bancrupt
As a result the people of Terlingua left town.
By the end of World War II the town was empty.
All that was left as you can see is a cemetery, a church, and houses.
Next in the 1960's for some reason people began to move back to Terlingua
and created a tourist attraction out of it.
Also organized a chilli cook off
Nowadays in the town you can find Airbnb's stays and restaurants.
The abandoned buildings stand on the hills alongside of old graves.
It's getting late and it's time to get to the place where we will spend the night.
Which is located about 20 minutes from the town, somewhere deep in Texas wilderness.
The place that we are going to spend the night is just amazing.
Let me show you.
Here, right here :)
In a second I'll show you what the inside looks like.
We have a fire pit right here.
and the view looks like this
Some information about the tipi.
your are probably wondering about the price which is $99
but on the top of it
there are some extra fees for cleaning so all together it's 140$
But the view is amazing
The sun is shining
It's the beginning of January
we have some electricity from solar panels
so we can charge our batteries
what else do you need?
and the view..
Spectacular views here take your breath away
Plants like Joushua trees
Opuntias and candelillas
in the mix with the mountains and the orange sun are heart-stopping
We have 1 heater...
...heres our second heater
... and our third
The sun is hiding behind the horizon
The fire is lighting up the cold texas night
and we can hear coyotes howling
I don't think you could be any closer to nature.
ok, that's all for today
subscribe to my channel so you won't miss our next adventure
and I'll see you soon, take care!
