USA news on Youtube Oct 9 2018

Hello horror fans, hope you are enjoying October as much as I am!

I have finally gotten my hands on one of my most anticipated horror films of the year

with Can Evrenol's follow up to his 2015 gory, nightmarish film Baskin.

The question is, was he a one hit wonder or could he deliver shock and terror again?

Let's find out as I explore his new film Housewife.

As you kind of could expect if you've seen Baskin, Housewife does not have a normal narrative

and story.

And since it is a totally new film I will also do my very best of avoiding any types

of spoilers here.

In the film we meet a young woman named Holly.

She has a seemingly good relationship with the writer Tim, but she is also having mental

trouble due to some traumatic events that took place in her childhood.

When an old friend of hers named Valery suddenly pops back up in her life after two years of

being away without so much as a phone call or a text message, Holly starts to learn about

a cult named ULM, or Umbrella of Love and Mind.

She is convinced by Valery that this cult could help her with her issues and after Holly

witness one of their meetings, things....well, you will have to decide yourself if they become

better or worse... or what actually happens.

This will not be an easy film to review, much harder than Baskin in fact.

The reason why is that you are never quite sure if what you are seeing are dream visions

or actually taking place in real life.

It constantly plays with your mind and wants you to be confused and unsure of what is reality

and what is dreams.

I am sure all of this might give a disorienting experience for many and since you don't really

understand anything before the last five minutes, it also demands a lot from you.

So if that is something you can't find yourself enjoying, then this will not be a film for

you.

When it comes to the grotesque part of the film, then don't expect another movie on the

same level of insanity as Baskin.

Most part of the film does not contain any shocking elements, but if you stay with whatever

is going on then it does deliver a bonkers finale that will leave you either scratching

your head or removing your jaw from the floor as you can not believe or comprehend what

you just watched.

And that's kind of the thing, I stayed with the movie even if I had no idea what was going

on for 75 out of its 82 minute running time and I felt disturbed by the time the end credits

started to roll.

I sat quiet in my chair and just tried to piece everything together for five or ten

minutes afterwards and it's not often a film has that effect on me.

So even if I might have been impatient and nearly bored at times during the film, it

all became worth it to me in the end.

And if you think that perhaps the movie has enough stylish treats to keep you pleased,

then you are wrong.

Most of the film doesn't look all that great visually, except the few times when they want

it to look great.

Filmmaker Can Evrenol showed a lot of promise with Baskin and I have been waiting for this

film ever since.

He proved himself with Housewife that he is one to count on and if he continues like this,

then he will be looked back at in the future the same way we now look back at people like

Lucio Fulci.

And the influence of Italian filmmakers are very clear in his work.

There is even a small jump scare gag here that is directly taken from Dario Argento's

Inferno.

It's clearly a homage and the simple film trick still works just as well today as it

did back in 1980.

I hope Evrenol never gets tired of putting his nightmares on film and that he will be

able to continue to do so without having producers put restrains on him as that would be the

worst thing to happen to his career.

Some might have problems with the Turkish actors delivering their lines in English,

but I didn't care and if you are a regular watcher of my channel then I doubt bad English

pronounciation will be a problem for you either.

Other than that, the actors do good enough I guess, somehow it doesn't really matter

if their performances are great or not to me.

The fact that they have a bit of a shoddy English delivery just adds to the weirdness

of the film for me.

Housewife is a journey that is not for everyone.

I am sure the average movie goer will not have the patience for something like this,

but if you think what I have been saying about this film sounds interesting then definitely

give this a chance.

Just don't expect festivities of grotesqueness like Baskin.

Housewife is demanding, slow, confusing, bleak, oddly personal and ultimately shocking.

It's hard to put a score on a film like this as it's not meant to be an entertaining film

that you will be able to revisit or remember with fondness, but few movies are able to

play with my brain like this.

Housewife gets a 4 out of 5.

Have you been able to see Housewife yet?

What did you think of it?

And how do you think it compares to Baskin?

Of course I have a review of Baskin up on my channel, so if you are unfamiliar with

that film then check that video out as well.

It's the easiest out of these two films to get into, so I would recommend that one before

Housewife, although I did give them both the same score.

Leave a like and subscribe and all of that if you enjoyed this video and I hope to see

you again here next time for more horror movie reviews on Cinema Terror.
