I've never felt
closer to my mom
Some years have passed,
and Sophie
has decided to remodel
the family hotel
on the Greek island of Kalokairi
to pay tribute to Donna,
who raised her alone
in that earthly paradise.
The young woman
reflects on her mother's life,
on that handful of days
that shocked her life
and the choice to stay on the island,
the same
that she's weighing up,
with enthusiasm
and some concern.
The memories part
is the most successful and fun,
but for the rest
the sequel
tries to compensate for
the manifestations of repetitive identity
that characterizes it
focusing on large crew's performances.
The party
has become a circus:
the family dimension of the first film
has been lost in this second chapter;
nostalgia
is a feeling evoked
but not felt
and the show swells
in a carnival of waited surprises,
a fashion show
of greasepainted characters.
