Alphonso Davies. 17-year-old forward for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
For now. Because in the near future, the Canadian will be scoring goals for FC Bayern.
Now, it's official.
Davies – considered one of the world's most promising strikers – has passed all necessary medical exams
and signed a contract with the German record champion until 2023.
But Davies will finish the current season with the Whitecaps and not join Bayern until after his 18th birthday.
His contract starts on January 1st of 2019.
Looking forward to seeing you in Munich, Alphonso!
Exciting times for Bayern Munich during this year's Audi Summer Tour,
including a true highlight for those who already play for the team.
A visit to the famous Rocky Steps and the Rocky statue,
right after the second training session of the day.
A must for every player: the obligatory souvenir photo.
Some of them even went so far as to channel Sylvester Stallone,
climbing the legendary steps themselves.
Matching the pace of a young Rocky Balboa.
A third training session of sorts.
All that after two hours of hard work in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.
During this sultry Philadelphia day, not even the occasional rain showers could cool down the Bavarian visitors.
Not necessarily ideal conditions for a „training camp". Nonetheless,
head coach Niko Kovac is pleased with the course of the tour:
I was in the US with Frankfurt last year, too.
That was already quite well organized.
But being here with FC Bayern is a whole different thing.
I'm impressed with the logistics, the organization and how everything is coming together here in the US.
We're certainly aware of the fact that we're also here for marketing reasons.
But we'll be facing two strong opponents in our test matches,
which is why we as coaches can do quite a bit of filtering on the athletic level.
That's important to us and that's why we've scheduled the matches.
I'm firmly convinced that this trip will be of great benefit to us.
But two training sessions and a bit of sightseeing was by far not everything on the Bayern schedule
on this second day of the Audi Summer Tour 2018.
Autograph sessions, meet and greets, roundtables and interdisciplinary exchanges with representatives
of the current Super Bowl champions – the Philadelphia Eagles, or the local basketball team – the Philadelphia 76ers.
The chair and board wrapped up their first full day in the country by meeting the German ambassador
to the US, Emily Haber.
A day full of highlights that wouldn't have been complete without Bayern mascot Berni:
he got to throw a pretty decent first pitch at the Citizens Bank Park,
kicking off the match between the local Phillies and the L.A. Dodgers.
