Social Security Scandal Uncovered, $571M Of Taxpayer Money Is Gone

If there's one thing that drives President Donald Trump nuts, it's giving taxpayer

money to people who don't deserve it.

And he'll be even more distressed to learn that over a half-billion dollars has accidentally

been paid out to individuals who didn't deserve a cent of it.

That's right.

It was all one giant mistake, and you paid for it!

We all know that government spending can spin out of control but generally, government offices

can at least tell you what the money was for.

Even if you don't agree with the amount of cash spent, even if you're a little angry

at shelling out for something you feel was unnecessary, it still makes at least some

sense.

This, however, is just entirely unacceptable.

According to a highly disturbing report just released by the Office of the Inspector General,

the Social Security Administration handed out a whopping $571 million in disability

benefits.

But it was all one giant mistake:

"The Social Security Administration improperly disbursed an estimated $571 million in disability

benefits to people who had already returned to work, according to a government audit report.

Of the overpayments, nearly $201 million of the improperly disbursed benefits checks was

due to the administration's slow processing, and almost $371 million was the fault of the

beneficiaries who didn't complete paperwork on time, the Office of the Inspector General

wrote in a report released Tuesday."

Well, that's just great.

People often joke about the administrative incompetence of government agencies, but this

takes the take.

If you aren't familiar with this particular process, those receiving disability benefits

from the SSA are granted a trial work period before they stop getting payments.

Recipients must then report back to the government when they start working so the SSA can conduct

"continuing disability reviews" to figure out if the individual should keep getting

benefits.

But in many cases, the SSA took an average of 155 days to process legitimate earnings

reports – that's almost half a year! – so taxpayer money kept flowing out the door.

In one outrageous example, someone on disability reported in November 2014 she had returned

to work, and the SSA didn't verify her employment until June 2015, and didn't halt disability

payments until September 2015.

And when they found out, that individual wasn't even required to return the $7,823 she'd

unfairly received.

Then there are instances where the SSA overpaid an estimated number of beneficiaries where

they were told the individual was receiving money from a job, but did nothing to act on

that information.

If this is how our government agencies are operating, President Trump needs to step in

and fix it.

Rapidly.

We

just can't allow

this

insanity

to continue!

Robert Mueller Could Get Shut Down By The Last Person He Ever Expected - Duration: 14:31.

Robert Mueller Could Get Shut Down By The Last Person He Ever Expected

Special counsel Robert Mueller is in the legal fight of his life.

His case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was supposed to be a slam dunk.

But Mueller could get shut down by the last person he ever expected.

Manafort's lawyers have targeted Mueller prosecutor Andrew Weissmann as part of their

latest legal challenge.

They argue that Weissman is the source of leaks that tainted the jury pool by portraying

Manafort as a crook.

Politico reports:

"Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's defense is going after one of special counsel

Robert Mueller's top deputies in a bid to persuade a federal judge to order a hearing

into leaks to the media.

In a court filing Monday night, Manafort's attorneys singled out prosecutor Andrew Weissmann

over a meeting he attended with The Associated Press in April 2017 — about a month before

Mueller was appointed to take over the Trump-Russia investigation.

At the time, Weissmann headed the fraud section of the Justice Department's Criminal Division.

The precise nature of the session with the AP reporters is unclear, but it came a day

before the news agency reported that financial records showed Manafort actually received

payments attributed to him in a so-called black ledger of secret Ukrainian government

compensation.

Manafort's defense attorneys suggested the episode makes Weissmann a logical suspect

as a source for anonymously sourced press accounts about the Manafort probe.

"It has been reported that a complaint was made to the Justice Department by the FBI

with respect to the meeting with the AP reporters, which suggests that normal procedures were

not followed in this case," Manafort lawyers Kevin Downing, Tom Zehnle and Jay Nanavati

said.

"The individuals that would be the focus of a leaks investigation are readily identifiable."

Weissman is a constant source of controversy.

He is best known as a pit bull who crosses ethical lines in pursuit of a conviction.

This came back to haunt Weissmann in his prosecution of the Arthur Anderson Accounting firm in

the wake of the Enron scandal.

The United States Supreme Court threw out all of Weissman's convictions that were

in that case because he withheld key information that could have allowed the jury to reach

a not guilty verdict.

Manafort's lawyers are pulling out all the stops to challenge Mueller's case.

They have argued the prosecution is outside the bounds of his mandate as special counsel.

And now they are arguing that if Mueller's team is guilty of unethical media leaks, it

will be impossible for their client to receive a fair trial.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments

in this story.
