What's up, guys?
Frazier here for Complex News.
Ronda Rousey hasn't officially retired from the UFC just yet.
But all indications are that her MMA career is over.
She hasn't stepped foot inside the Octagon since losing to Amanda Nunes in less than
a minute in a fight that took place last December, and as recently as just last month, UFC president
Dana White said he hopes Rousey retires and steers clears of fighting ever again.
It sounds like Rousey is prepared to take White's advice, but it also sounds like
she's going to remain in the spotlight even though her MMA career is all but over.
According to two sources who spoke with USA Today Sports this week, Rousey is finalizing
a deal with the WWE that would see her transforming herself into a professional wrestler in the
months to come.
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has followed Rousey's career over the
last few years.
While she has dedicated herself to the UFC for the most part, there have also been plenty
of hints that have suggested she might have a future in the WWE.
She took part in WrestleMania 31 back in 2015, and later that year, Stephanie McMahon spoke
about how she could easily see Rousey making the jump from the UFC to the WWE.
McMahon called Rousey the "total package" at the time and said switching from MMA to
pro wrestling would be a slam dunk for her.
Rousey has also added to the speculation by dropping clues about her potential involvement
in the WWE throughout 2017.
In September, she showed up at a show to support her friend Shayna Baszler, who used to be
an MMA fighter before switching over and becoming a pro wrestler.
During the show, she was involved in a staredown with WWE superstar Charlotte Flair, who challenged
Rousey to a fight.
There have also been reports about Rousey training at the WWE's Performance Center this
fall.
As of right now, the WWE hasn't offered up any information at all about Rousey's
role in the company moving forward.
But there are rumors about her taking part in Wrestlemania 34 in April floating around,
so it shouldn't be long before we find out whether or not she's really aiming to become
a wrestler.
