Good morning, we're now in Barstow next to Ghost Town
Soon we'll head to wander around there
It's supposedly quite big with population of 1200 and lots of mines
It should be interesting
Then we'll head to Route 66
At least for a little bit, not sure how much yet
We'll see what kind of historical buildings and things we'll encounter thre
It'll be an interesting day
In an RV in the USA
- This town was founded in 1881
There were a lot of gold prospectors here trying their luck back then
Then after that the prospectors came for the silver
Can't remember everything they had there but let's go and explore. We have a good map here
Founded in 1881
Then died in 1907
Then restored by Walter Knott in 1951
- It's pretty nice place
Lots of buildings
I don't think everything is original and authentic though
Not that important as long as the style is right
Here's a list of population and how it has changed
In 1887 there were 1200 people
Then the price of silver plummeted
and the town started dying
It's a really nice place so if you're ever around here I recommend visiting
We haven't seen much of it yet but it already feels like it's worth the visit
The entrance fee was 8 dollars per person so not that bad
It's starting to get really warm
It's not that windy here so you can definitely feel the heat, and that's good
A barber, you could get a haircut and moustache and a beard cut
Look, dentist's drill
- A chess board
- Route 66 soda and a hot dog
- It's better than what we had yesterday
(Mhm)
Pretty salty sausage
Teacher's pay was on average 70 to 110 dollars a month
Miner's salary was around 3 dollars a day
Pretty decent wage - Yeah
We've been exploring for a while now and have to admit that it is a fascinating place
Looks like an entrance to a mine - Using a pick-axe
Go ahead
- Imagine how rough it must have been - and the heat
- This is the first vein that started everything here if I'm guessing right
- We ended up taking the mine tour, 3 dollars per head
- You can do gold panning there, but it costs extra
- That was a nice place - Yeah, really interesting
I like the history a lot
I've been dreaming of sitting on an American porch in a rocking chair
This is just right
It was a bit surprising to see the floor full of these peanut shells when I came to the restaurant
I guess it doesn't do any harm that they're on the floor.
We got quite a cup of these too
- Even the water is in quite of a... jug
- I've never peeled these myself before
Aren't these regular pistachios?
I dunno
Me neither, they look like this when you buy them from the shop
- In the next episode we roll through Route 66
Which was one of the highlights of our trip
In an RV in the USA 2017
