Kids Hope is an organization that's been around
for about 25 years,
and you want to think about it as a third party.
It's not a church. It's not a school.
But it's connective tissue between the two.
I think often times people wonder,
"What kind of difference can I make by just spending time with one student,
only for one hour a week?"
And something that I've learned over this past year
is that this is a really amazing way that we can be
the body of Jesus outside of these church walls.
As we are different parts of the same body
we want to make Jesus known, we want to love people,
we want to do that according to how we're wired,
how we're gifted, how we're uniquely set up to
approach the city that we live in.
This experience of mentoring, and spending time
with one student was helping me realize how much
serving is necessary in the life of a Christ follower.
And being on mission, how much it actually changes us.
What we're doing here isn't generic community service.
It isn't just in a vacuum, a nice thing.
But those little people, with real little hands,
and real little voices that are lonely,
and they don't have anyone talking back to, maybe,
some of the feeding thoughts our some of the hard
challenging circumstances. They don't have anyone in their corner.
There were times when I would go into that school
and leave thinking, "That was worthless."
But the thing about it was, if you compound all those
times together, what that gave him was someone in
his life that was gonna show up.
I just want to thank you, you are all gonna have an
opportunity to make a huge difference in the life of
a student this year, by just being faithful.
And by showing up, and by loving them.
