Ladies and gentlemen... David Hasselhoff.
No way ;-)
Hey, great to have you here. This time from the City of Dreams...
...The City of Angels. Right from the heart of Entertainment.
Welcome to America, this is Los Angeles.
A mega-sized city located at the west coast, 1 hour flight away from San Francisco.
A big difference with San Francisco is that you WILL be need a car in LA.
It's footprint is big and in some neighbourhoods you're not allowed to walk across the street.
It all started here in Downtown LA.
A landmark is Olvera Street. Nowadays a tourist trap.
When passing it it feels like you're in Mexico.
For years Downtown LA was a place you best avoided.
It had gone down and was overtaken by criminals.
Today it's a much better place, lots of restaurants and shops have settled here.
My advice is to walk around in the afternoon, enjoy the sights and don't feel frightened by types like these.
Right here in downtown is where you'll find Union Station.
You may have seen this station before, it was used in over 30 movies.
Blade Runner and Pearl Harbour to name a few.
10 minutes south of here you'll find Little Tokyo. A very small block.
Nice to check out or go for some food.
Big spenders alert. This is the district where everyone walks around with sunglasses.
This is Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive.
Fitted with the most expensive shops in town. The area stretches to 3 blocks.
Nice to visit even if you don't spend a penny.
Small little tip: 2 blocks behind me is a regular urban area, very nice to see because of houses...
... and trees.
Also located in downtown LA is the Arts District.
I feel like I'll be enjoying myself with this beautiful street art
America wouldn't be America if hadn't created a ride for everything like right here, Skyspace.
A high rise structure which includes this see-through glide from the 70th to the 69th floor. Such fun.
Except when you're afraid of heights like I am.
Outside my comfort zone and yes I will do it.
As I am here anyway, and it offers these stunning views.
You can have your picture taken like a real angel.
If that doesn't excite you then you can consider this ride. Angels Flight.
It's over the top ;-) The playground is so much better ;-)
This is a little train which takes you up and down 1 block for 1 US for 1 ride.
The sun always shines in LA, temperatures between 20 to 28 degrees.
What more could a man wish for.
Americans go here for their holidays and when they do they head towards Santa Monica beach.
In Typical American fashion they've built this attraction fair on the pier.
You can have stomach lining turned upside down in this roller coaster...
... have a drink, dance and in a few locations you can yourselves rubbed with sunscreen. That's nice.
Just south of here brings you to Venice Beach.
A spot everyone says you need to visit someday.
Which is obvious from the number of tourists walking around here.
Lots of bums here...
...and these guys going great work ;-)
The entertainment industry heart is right here in LA.
To get the "entertainment experience" they've constructed this touristy baby, The Walk of Fame.
All the biggest artists have been given a star sunk into the sidewalk.
You can walk across it or just take a picture.
Slightly awkward but you won't be alone.
This is the spot where the Oscar ceremony gets held every year, right here in the Dolby Theatre.
It looks spectacular, purposeful and lovely but in reality it's right here in this mall.
They'll drop out the red carpet and shut the stores on the sides, seal them off with facial covers.
The best known street in LA is of course, Sunset Strip. Part of Sunset Boulevard.
You should be able to spot the rich and famous.
Haven't seen them on this trip but may be you are luckier than I was.
The spot right here carries some history with it.
You weren't allowed to gamble in the city however this street was just beyond city limits.
Everyone came to try their luck. It's got a gambling vibe to it. I don't feel it myself though.
To me it's mostly a hip district.
A completely different vibe is set from right here in West Hollywood.
The area best known for it's great vibe and equality.
Everyone can be his natural self.
It's quiet during the daytime but at night it's generally more packed.
It's also known as WEHO, just a different name for SOHO.
A personal little favourite of mine is Griffith Observatory on Mount Hollywood.
It provides for a great scenery across LA.
It was given to the city by a old mine owner. His name was Sir Griffith (you guessed it).
He wanted for this to be freely accessible for ever and it still is today.
But parking isn't for free. It's expensive with $6/hour.
A city with many sides to it, from poor to rich.
You can find yourself cruising through a rich area come 2 minutes later driving through a rough patch with people living in and on the streets.
It's all living next to each other.
