hey what's up Stefanie the English Coach here from EnglishFullTime.com as promised this
week I'm going to continue talking about the differences between Argentina and the USA
and why I absolutely love both of these countries and can't choose just one where I want to
live right so last week I talked about a lot of different things I talked about the culture
I talked about the driving just differences common differences that I have noticed from
these countries and there are things that I like about each one so I'm going to continue
with this discussion today and I wanna start with something that's actually a little bit
more serious and it's kind of unpleasant to talk about but it's a reality okay so I'm
talking about the security right how safe people feel where you live and I was thinking
about this and you know in the USA I can go for a walk in my neighborhood at any time
of the day pretty much and I feel safe I don't have to worry about someone coming and robbing
me or you know something bad happening I mean obviously I'm not gonna go out walking at
3 AM that's not really something that I do but in general when it starts getting dark
I'm like okay you know I better hurry home or whatever I just don't like walking at night
anyways but I sometimes go for night walks with my family or my friends and it's just
something we do and it's like a tradition it's really cool but here in Argentina specially
in Buenos Aires I just don't feel that same level of security and it's not because anything
has happened to me but it's because of all the stories that I've heard from the locals
form the people who have lived here there is not one person I know here who has not
been robbed okay. And when I mean robbed I mean like Renzo has been robbed at gunpoint
my husband has been robbed at gunpoint multiple times it's just like okay so I'm getting robbed
again and there is a gun at my head again and it's like normal freaking life my sister
in law's friend a couple month ago was robbed at gunpoint she's like 18 years old you know
and on her way to school or whatever and it's just sucks that you live in a place where
you don't feel secure where I'm recording this video right now we are in a park that
has a fence around it because we don't want the camera to get stolen okay we don't want
someone to come up on a motorcycle and just like yank it out of our hands or whatever
and it's just crazy that this is the experience that people have here in a daily basis it's
constantly in the back of your mind and for example when I walk you know form my in law's
house to my husband's grandparent's house I don't even take a cellphone because I just
don't want anyone to have a reason to rob me and if they do rob me I'm like here take
my backpack take my money but don't take my cellphone you know so I I go out in the street
without a cellphone if I'm I have this gold necklace I'll just show you guys this means
a lot to me the story behind it this is a necklace that I actually gave my mother in
law I love her she's amazing and she wore it every single day for a couple of years
and then she gift it back to me with a different pendant on it and I love this necklace okay
so it has a lot of meaning to me but I can't just I don't feel like this is something I
can just wear on the streets because if someone sees it they are gonna be like oh you know
I'm gonna rob her I'm gonna whatever it's just a feeling of lack of security and you
know that's it's crazy because this isn't even the least secure place in the world like
the are places that are a lot worse than this and granted there are places in the US that
where you won't feel safe right there are some places some cities some parts of town
where it's like okay you don't wanna be caught there walking at anytime of the day anyhow
so this is something that I really wish Argentina had more of I wish I could just be here and
feel safer here and I know the people that are form here wish the same thing so anyhow
this is just another difference between the countries but this wouldn't stop me form living
here because as you guys know I love it here okay so on the other hand the next thing that
I wanna talk about is parties and nightlife I really feel like people in Argentina know
how to celebrate they know how to have fun they get up and dance they love music they
I don't know the the parties here are the best parties I 've ever experienced the nightlife
here is insane is nothing like in the US so for example in the US when I would go out
dancing with my friends we would go to the club I don't know like at 11 PM around there
and everything will basically be done at 2 AM okay in Argentina you go out at 11 or 12
to go hang out with your friends and have a couple drinks and the clubs open at like
2 AM maybe even 3 AM I don't know and people just dance all night until 7 or 8 AM and then
you can go have a coffee with your friends or have some mate or something like that it's
just insane now with that said though I have to say that I kind of prefer the early schedule
because at least you can get some sleep before the next day starts and when you stay up all
night in Argentina is a lot of fun but then the next day you are good for nothing basically
you can't be productive really it sucks but anyhow so that said just the music here is
really fun the dancing here is really fun and just I don't know the people it always
comes back to the people and for example in the US you will never see two guys dancing
together right like never but in Argentina the very first day that I got here several
years ago I went out dancing with Renzo and that's a story for another time anyhow I met
his family met him the same day that I got here I told his mom I was like I heard the
nightlife in Argentina is really awesome like I would love to experience it and I was talking
about like in the future and she's like oh I think Ren is going out tonight with his
friends he can take you and I was like okay so I went out dancing and I was blown away
because he went out dancing with his guy friends and they were like dancing together and I
was just like this is nothing I've ever seen before so that was new for me we had a lot
of fun and yeah in the US guys won't dance unless they are dancing with a girl and I
don't know I like that people can just dance together and they don't have to worry about
who they're dancing with anyhow so nightlife here is really really fun really exciting
completely different from everything I ever experienced in the USA okay so in that case
I like Argentina more so the next thing I wanna talk about is sports something that
I love about the USA is that there is this huge emphasis on sports playing sports actually
I was gonna say watching sports but I don't care about watching sports I just like the
fact that we play sports and in high-school for example you can decide if you wanna be
on the basketball team the volleyball team the soccer team the swim team the water polo
team the tennis team I don't even know there is so many teams and anybody can be on them
in the public school system is like we have try outs obviously where you have to show
that you have some athletic ability and then there are different levels you know there
is junior varsity then there is varsity depending on how good you are and you can move up the
reason I love this so much is because I had such a good experience on the swim teams and
the water polo team when I was in high school and later in college and being on a team and
playing sports with a team it teaches you such amazing lessons that I don't know if
you can learn in any other way so it teaches you team work it teaches you to work hard
it teaches you that your body is stronger than you realize you are able to do things
you never thought would be possible and here in Argentina I mean yes there is an emphasis
in sports obviously I mean soccer is huge here right but what I've noticed is that there
is not as big of an emphasis as there is in the US like in the US for example let's say
that your kids or whatever are in high school okay and they have a volleyball game parents
will go to the games like lots of people they'll go they'll eat at the games they will celebrate
you know they are really cheering on the kids and stuff and it's really really cool experience
and it's like oh there is a football game this Friday night we are all gonna go to the
football game you know and then there's a parade that goes around cheerleaders it's
just really fun okay and I've not really ever experience that here so with all of that said
you guys I could go on and on and on you guys know this there is so many thing I love about
both of these countries and when I met Ren and we got married I was like what are we
gonna do now you know because you are from here I'm from California you know I don't
wanna go to California and then we are never gonna see your family or rarely and I don't
wanna be here and never see my family so what are we gonna do and that is kind of how English
Full Time got started I just started thinking okay what can I provide to people what can
I help people with so that I can work online and have the ability to basically live in
both countries and people used to always ask us where are you gonna settle down and the
truth is we don't have kids right now we don't have to settle down and this is amazing because
we can live in Argentina for a few months we can live in the USA for a few months we
can go back and forth we can work wherever we go and you know it's awesome because we
can live in two countries so that is why I love Argentina and the USA and why I cannot
choose which one Ilike more I hope you guys enjoyed this video and if you could live anywhere
in the world besides your country or in addition to you country I don't know where would you
