 James Mattis is to step down as defense secretary, leaving the White House in protest at Donald Trump's policies

 Mr Trump announced on Thursday night that the 68-year-old - one of the most widely-respected figures in the administration - was retiring at the end of February

 But in his resignation letter Mr Mattis said he could no longer support the president's decisions

 "Because you have the right to have a secretary of defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position," he said

 In particular, Mr Mattis is said to disagree with Mr Trump's decision, announced the previous day, to withdraw troops from Syria – a decision he was reportedly not consulted on

It was reported on Thursday evening that Mr Trump was also considering withdrawing all US troops - currently 14,000 - from Afghanistan

 Mr Trump made the announcement of Mr Mattis's departure via Twitter, praising his service, and saying Mr Mattis was retiring

General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years

Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 20, 2018  Yet the four-star general, in his resignation letter, made clear that he was not retiring but rather resigning, because he did not agree with the president's decisions

 In particular, Mr Mattis stressed that he disagreed with Mr Trump's attitude towards international relations, and the importance of alliances

 "One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships," he wrote

 "We cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those strong allies

"  He pointed out that Nato came to US aid after the September 11 attacks, and noted that the 74-nation coalition to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) was further evidence of the value of multilateralism

 "Similarly I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours," he added, singling out Russia and China as adversaries

 "We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances

 The defense secretary was said to be particularly concerned about what would happen to the Kurds, were the US to withdraw its troops from Syria

 The retired general insisted it was not a "forced resignation", and said he will step down on February 28, to allow time for a smooth transition before the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff steps down in September

 However, the decision of the 40-year military veteran is widely seen as a significant blow to the Trump administration

David Chalian, CNN political director, said: "There are no more grown-ups left in the room

" Jim Mattis was widely respected around the world  Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat leader in the House, said she was "shocked" and "shaken" by his decision, given that he was a "devoted patriot"

 "I'm shaken by what it means for our country," she said, urging all Americans to read his letter "and examine what it means"

 "There's something very wrong with this picture," she said. "Our troops look to Secretary Mattis as a leader

This is very serious to our country."  Chuck Schumer, the Democrat leader in the Senate, added: "Secretary Mattis was one of the few symbols of strength and stability in this organisation

Everything that represents stability is leaving. I'm sure most Americans feel it's a great loss

"  He said it "gives America less and less faith in this president as a leader."

Manovra, vince la linea del M5s: niente flat tax, ora Matteo Salvini barcolla - Duration: 7:26.

 Il piano era ambizioso. «La flat tax verrà fatta, è nel contratto di governo. Vogliamo fare in piccolo quello che ha fatto Trump in America», diceva Matteo Salvini lo scorso agosto, con il piglio di chi è disposto a dare il sangue per ottenere il risultato

Il piccolo, però, con il passare dei mesi è diventato minuscolo, quasi impercettibile

Certo, nella manovra, alla fine, sono entrate le aliquote agevolate per le partite Iva fino a 100mila euro

Ma il confronto con il taglio delle tasse di centinaia di miliardi messo in atto dal presidente Usa, il più imponente dai tempi di Ronald Reagan, rende la mini sforbiciata di poche centinaia di milioni portata a casa dalla Lega un mucchietto di briciole da gettare nella spazzatura

 All' inizio era la rivoluzione fiscale. Progetto palingenetico con cui il leader della Lega ha prospettato agli italiani un nuovo rapporto tra fisco e cittadini: aliquota unica, riduzione delle pressione tributaria, semplificazione, chiusura con il passato

Che tutto non fosse possibile lo si era capito da subito.   Iniziamo dal ceto produttivo, aveva detto Salvini

Poi sarà il turno delle famiglie. E già qui sono arrivati i primi mugugni. Ma nell' attesa c' è la pace fiscale

Basta contenziosi ed evasione di sopravvivenza, via le odiate cartelle: si riparte da zero

Tra una manina e l' altra, però, i grillini hanno avuto la meglio. Nella confusione di mini sanatorie e rottamazioni, il condono fiscale promesso, quello che avrebbe permesso ai contribuenti di chiudere la partita col fisco versando una piccola quota del dovuto, è uscito completamente di scena

 Stesso discorso per la flat tax. L' ipotesi di una riduzione del peso delle imposte attraverso l' introduzione di una aliquota unica ha resistito poche settimane

In un primo tempo, si è detto, meglio fissarne due. O forse tre. Neanche il tempo di litigare sulle percentuali e lo scenario è cambiato di nuovo

La flat tax, per adesso, riguarda solo i piccoli lavoratori autonomi. Per il resto della platea, si vedrà

 SOLDI AI FANNULLONI - Se a questo aggiungiamo i soldi regalati ai fannulloni con il reddito di cittadinanza («Che piace a un' Italia che non ci piace», ha ammesso il sottosegretario leghista Giancarlo Giorgetti, ma che ha avuto un ridimensionamento di soli 1,9 miliardi rispetto ai 2,7 di quota 100), l' ostilità verso le grandi opere che rendono più competitivo il Paese, l' intenzione di non aggredire la spesa pubblica per ridurre sprechi e sperperi di denaro e l' assalto alle pensioni di chi ha sempre versato i contributi attraverso il taglio di quelle più alte e il mancato adeguamento di quelle medio-basse, il quadro è completo per tratteggiare una sorta di inferno per il ceto produttivo, che dalla classe dirigente leghista, cresciuta nei campi e nelle fabbriche, nel cuore pulsante delle regioni del Nord che trainano il Paese, si aspettavano qualcosa di ben diverso

 Aspettative e delusioni che non sono sfuggite a Salvini, solitamente attento agli umori della sua base elettorale

È anche per questo che il leader del Carroccio ha deciso di riallacciare il dialogo con le categorie

L' incontro al Viminale è andato come doveva. Artigiani, grandi industrie, agricoltori e commercianti hanno presentato le proprie richieste

Il ministro dell' Interno si è impegnato a dare seguito ai suoi progetti per il rilancio della crescita e lo sviluppo

 FURIA GRILLINA - La furia di Luigi Di Maio, che ha subito bacchettato l' alleato, ricordandogli che quella è materia sua, ha però ricordato a tutti chi comanda nella colazione sui temi economici (e forse non solo)

Il risultato è quello messo nero su bianco nella manovra concordata con Bruxelles per evitare la procedura d' infrazione

L' elenco di misure che riguardano le imprese è lungo: abrogazione del credito d' imposta in materia di Irap per i soggetti passivi che impiegano dipendenti a tempo indeterminato in alcue regioni, abrogazione dell' aliquota ridotta Ires in favore degli enti non commerciali, abrogazione del credito di imposta in favore di soggetti che compioni investimenti in beni strumentali nuovi

E non è tutto, perché il premier si è anche impegnato con la Ue ad aumentare l' Iva di 10 miliardi nel 2020 se i conti non torneranno

Stangata che si cumula con quella delle precedenti clausole di salvaguardia sterilizzate solo in parte dalla manovra

 A completare il conto dei balzelli ci sono l' ecotassa per le auto troppo inquinanti, che darà il colpo di grazia all' industria dell' auto già in affanno, l' ulteriore stretta sui giochi e la web tax al 3%

Senza contare le bastonate già preesistenti su banche e assicurazioni.  Per scovare l' unico provvedimento a favore delle azienda bisogna andare sotto la voce Inail: un emendamento taglia di 410 milioni i contributi versati dalle aziende

Il presso da pagare sono 110 milioni tolti alla formazione in materie di sicurezza e tutela della salute per le piccole imprese

Insomma, non un grande affare.  A dare la sensazione della clamorosa beffa sono le parole dello stesso Salvini, che di fronte al fiasco della manovra grillo-europea non ha trovato di meglio che prorogare il mantenimento delle promesse al prossimo anno: «Lavoreremo nel 2019 per la pace fiscale e per ampliare la platea della flat tax»

E il taglio delle accise sulla benzina? Pure quello si farà poi.Doveva essere all' ordine del giorno del primo Consiglio dei ministri

Der Qualität des Essens tut das keinen Abbruch, stattdessen spart man ordentlich Energie

Wer beispielsweise an 200 Tagen im Jahr jeweils zwölf Minuten vorheizt, den kostet das satte 31 Euro

Sparen Sie sich das Vorheizen Und falls mal mehrere Gerichte auf einmal anstehen: Mit Umluft lassen sich die verschiedenen Ebenen des Ofens am besten ausnutzen

Für den Backofen gilt darüber hinaus im Übrigen das Gleiche wie für den Deckel auf dem Topf: Ersparen Sie sich und Ihrem Essen ausgiebige Besichtigungs- und Schnuppertouren
