Why is Calgary well-positioned to bid for 2026? As somebody who throughout my
life, I've lived in on the African continent, in Europe, in different cities
in Canada. And as someone who's competed in both the summer and winter Olympics,
I think that my perspective is a little bit unique to to this decision, and I can
break it out into three basic categories: venues, city culture, and community.
And these three categories are what makes Calgary better than anywhere else to
host these games. First of all the venues: The venues are already built and
they're top-notch. We have World Cups here all the time, we have athletes
training here who are competing in the Olympics. Second to that, they're used.
Very often people worry about white elephants or putting money into
something that is for a small few or an elite few. All our venues aside from the
ski jump, are used on a daily basis, which makes us unique across all the other
cities in the world. Second reason is the the sport culture within the city.
Whether you're a big business or you're a small business owner, there is a high
chance that you've been to the Oval, you've been skiing, you've watched
a World Cup event, and you are in tune with everything that Calgary has in
terms of sports in our city. Third one is our volunteer nature,
the spirit that citizens have. I just came back from the Youth Olympic
Games in Argentina, and at those games they hosted what was a sport festival
where children could come in for free, and try out different events, and
just see what it what it could be like to be active in in a different way.
And I think if we had something similar here in Calgary, because we have a great
volunteer base. Because we've got so many families with children who already
into sport, having the opportunity to have the entire world here: the best
athletes here, and all condensed into a small area where they can view, they can
try, and they can fall in love with sports is what makes Calgary better than
any other city in the entire world to host The Games.
