Her name was Betty
Betty dreamed of being a bride
Betty grew up, went to college and became a lawyer
She met a sweet young man called Mike
She fell in love
One day, Mike asked her to marry him, and Betty said YES!
They had a lovely wedding, Betty was in love and happy
"You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen!"
Betty was pleased
Who that man was? Why you had smiled at him that way?
"Don't be silly!"
Then, Mike it her
"I love you, Betty! I love you so much! I'm so sorry1"
And Betty forgave him
He promised it would not happen again
But it did, of course
Sometimes It was because she smiled...
... or because she split coffee...
Or because she "spoke out of turn"...
He was always sorry afterward, and he always cried
Betty was afraid, and Betty was ashamed
She was a famous lawyer by then
Betty would go to court and save women from their abusive spouses
How could she tell anyone it happened to her too?
Who would believe her?
Mike was so sweet and kind everyone loved mike!
So Betty told people she had fallen
And everyone pretended to believe it was true
But one day, Mike went too far
He cried afterwards and said he was sorry
But Betty didn't get up she couldn't
Betty was hospitalised, and Mike was taken to prison
Maybe if someone had told her they knew...
