USA news on Youtube Nov 21 2018

Yo guys it's Zman again here with Behind The Deckz at Army of Hardcore!

I'm joined once again by Mrotek and the one and only terrorcore warrior.... *realizes he's wrong*

...Uptempo, sorry! Uptempo warrior Tim Shopp!

First question I have to ask you guys, you have a track, "The Dark"

It's out now on Partyraiser Records, been out for a few months now right?

When you guys debuted the track at Basscon: Wasteland last year, I was there for it.

It was the closing track of Mrotek's set.

What was it like seeing that big of a reaction?

When you're playing the track at the time, uptempo was still kind of unknown over here,

So what expectations did you have for that?

For me, the first play of a track no matter where it is, whether it's at a local show or a big show,

that makes for a great surprise for me.

The fact is, when we played it there we just crossed our fingers.

We were like "I hope it's good!" And it was sick because, at the end of my set, like the last 15 minutes,

a shitload of people came in and it really filled out.

There was probably like, what, 1,000 people there? 2,000? 1,500? Something like that?

It was phat! And that was the last track, fucking went off nice, it was sweet!

It was even crazier because the vocals and the break, people knew it.

Breaking Benjamin vocals, people were singing, and ahhh, dude it was awesome!

Yeah that was fun.

It was totally unexpected for me because honestly, you don't see too often a raw DJ collab with an uptempo DJ.

It should happen more but, overall, people are in their own area/genre.

It's rare, yeah. I opened my set tonight with Delete and N-Vitral and it's rare but,

when it happens, it can be fucking lit when it happens. Yes, it really can.

Never thought of that before, let's do another one! Haven't we talked about adding more vocals,

do we already have vocals? Yes. We've talked about stuff before. *laughs*

Alright, maybe we've got Part 2 then. 2019 let's do it. That one will be called The Light. *laughs*

*ba-dum tshh*

Genius. That was terrible.

I'll be here all week.

You know that has to be the title now. Just put it out, and it's going to go across the Internet now, oh shit!

How did you guys meet in the first place and get to the point where you're like,

"Hey, let's collab even though we do kind of different things"?

When was the first time?

*thinking*

Holy shit, [Fantasyland] Pittsburgh 2017? 16. 16? Oh shit I'm getting old. *laughs*

Damn. So, that was a lit weekend and we just partied all weekend and it was super fun.

For me, I had heard about [Mrotek] and I had heard his music.

You know, I'm not like a snob, it's not like I just only want to listen to my music

so sometimes it's nice to branch out.

I remember everybody saying, "Oh, there's this guy Mrotek from Arizona who is making rawstyle,"

I was like, "Oh, ok". Then I heard a tune and was like, "Holy shit, this is good shit!"

And then for the initial reach-out, at the time saying, "Hey man, what's up?"

Just a regular-ass conversation. Just come to a good place, hang out, in Pittsburgh first,

and then the next weekend we were together again and I remember we had this [inspiration]

That was so fun that second weekend.

And then we were just like, "Fuck it, we made this new track".

It's like the most basic thing ever dude.

Yeah, and for Tim I remember hearing his name, Tim Shopp, going around uptempo

this hardcore guy from the East Coast. I didn't know what was going on until I met him (fucking love this guy)

Then I heard his tracks and I was like, "You made all these kicks?"

And he's like, "Fuck yeah!" And so he fucking shows me that he's making these kicks.

And I'm like, "This guy, he's the real deal!" So it kind of made sense to do a track at some point.

I like uptempo but I don't really have an excuse to release uptempo.

One day I just felt like making an uptempo kick and I was like,

"Yo Tim, I made this uptempo kick...wanna do a track?"

And he was like "Fuck yeah, let's do it!"

And I remember I had vocals ready and was like, "Here's this,"

and then he was like, "Well I got this and I got this,"

Tim, it happened so fast. We did it in like a month.

Which, for some people, is a "long" time.

Pretty fast, but we wrote it in a week and a half. Then it was 3 weeks adding and changing stuff.

It was fun, it was lit dude, that's what's going on, fuck yes!

*brief confusion*

I've got one more question for you guys.

For those of you guys who are paying attention to socials and whatnot,

you may have seen Tim or [Mrotek] knocking around the idea of,

"Maybe I want to [live in] Europe at some point."

So, I guess do you want to talk a little about the...

...I just feel there are two distinct sides.

Does part of you wants to stay and support the US scene

and the other half want to take advantage of opportunities in Europe?

I personally want to get over to Europe as soon as possible. As a matter of the logistics of the move,

you know, I've got to get my girlfriend willing to move with me over there

because I'm not going to go there without her. So, it's a whole big process.

As soon as I can get over there, I want to live over there.

And eventually, the end goal for me is to do some kind of back-and-forth.

Live in Europe some of the year, for like 2 or 3 years, and then come back here and kind of work both clubs.

Europe is the place to be. I am super grateful for the scene that's been built up in the States.

Yeah dude, Army of Hardcore has been a lot of fun. It really has, and I'm so grateful that I'm a part of that.

I don't want to say that we're towards the war front, but we really are for hard dance in America.

We're towards the front. I say that with no...but it's very exciting.

That's why I never just want to move to Europe and never think about the States. This is where we started.

For me I'm leaving next year, so I'm already getting ready. *laughs*

Ah right, he's already got plans.

It's been a "long" err...I want to say it's almost 3 years. I think the biggest realization here was in 2016.

I had the whole summer tour, went to Holland and by this point, every time I was there I was just like...

You think you could live here! ...you fall in love with it a little bit more.

But then...this being the year I had the Holland tour, I remember so vaguely it was me and my buddy Isaiah

(Levenkhan) and we were sitting in the apartment that we were staying in.

And then he literally just said to me, we had just finished hanging out with some friends.

We sat down, and the partner we're just sitting around and he goes, "Man, we need to move over here."

And I said, "Yeah." And at that point, we kind of made that pact.

It was like having a loaded gun and finally pulling the trigger.

Then that was it. At that point, for me it was like, "There is no going back, this is what I'm doing."

So, for everyone in Europe watching this, you might get to see one or both of these guys in your hometown

or home country very soon. That's the reality for sure.

I mean, we get so many Dutch artists coming over here that it's only fair that we give back.

It's where the music comes from and it's nice to have the choice to go over there.

We're working hard to be wanted over there. We hope that the stuff we're putting out is great for you guys.

Thanks again guys for joining me. This is just a fun joint interview that we're doing so I hope you guys enjoy it.

See you soon!
