below and follow me on instagram at tomenglandphoto hey folks welcome back to
my next video now this video is gonna be a little different with it being almost
December here in Atlantic Canada it's it's winter it's cold probably until
April or May I won't be shooting anything nobody really has their cars
out I may do some things for the dealership over the winter but also with
this series this is kind of something new I've been getting some requests to
really look at some some other photos I really tried my processing on other
people's photos now some people are already doing this if you do follow
Damian Plisko on Instagram he does a excellent job an amazing job with his
post-processing and what he does he posts before and afters on Instagram
with this one I'm actually gonna do the whole process and take you through the
process so this first one will be from a friend of mine his name is Davidescu
apologies for the pronunciation he is in Romania and I'm not really a
100% certain on the pronunciation on that but Davidescu
he does some amazing work so check him out on Instagram he has some great
photos and some great techniques but he did send me a couple photos for a
consideration this one is of the Honda NSX it is a Honda they're here in Canada
of course it's Acura NSX but with this photo I did like this one I wanted to
try a little technique on this now the techniques that I use are they the best
way to process a photo absolutely not it's just something that
I wanted to try my hand on with my processing techniques with with somebody
else's photo it's the first time we've ever done it so it's it's a bit
different but you know you do have some interest if you have some photos you
want it to for me to take a look at maybe try my hand at processing those
photos please get in touch with me my Instagram is probably the easiest way
just send me a direct message via Instagram and we can communicate that
way we'll get some photos over and we'll see what we can do through through the
winter so with that let's take a look at Davidescu's photo of the Honda NSX
and go through some of the processing that I did on this photo okay so here's
the original photo here and we're gonna take two photos that he had taken and
we're gonna open as layers in Photoshop and we will align those and the first
thing we're doing here is we're taking the the tool here the the brush tool and
we're just paint away some of the reflections to get the best exposure
from both of those particular exposures there so just blending both photos
together and we'll flatten that image and we're speeding through a lot of this
here and really what this is it's taking some time and using some various tools
to clean up the photos so there's some reflections here of this tree we're
gonna take that tree out anyway so we'll get rid of the reflections there's a
little up here and we're speeding through and really what this is it's
going it's look taking a look at the photo at a hundred percent two hundred
percent magnification and just cleaning up little blemishes that we see that are
on the car itself from the camera whatever that may be
just making the car itself a bit cleaner now you can take as much time as you
want with this but really just cleaning up the the major things here before we
move on so we'll flatten this image and the next thing we're gonna do is we're
gonna make a new layer we'll call this back this is gonna be for the background
here and this background has some substantially some things we need to to
remove so we're using the pad tool as well as the clone brush tool and
we're just making some quick selections here and painting over we're getting rid
of this this tree here that was near the car using selection with the pen tool
and we'll quickly go through this eliminating some of the the easy ones
here the tree here we can just clone in and patch in and paint over this itself
okay we've got rid of that there right and as a next step we'll look around the
photo there's some trees here's a building here in the back we'll need to
get rid of and we'll just use other sections of the photo and paint over
that this guy is not important we're gonna replace that but we're making this
as even as possible just make it a little cleaner we need to make a
selection around the the car here just so we can get a better better selection
so we can paint over that and we will make this selection and we'll invert it
and we'll just paint around here using other portions of the photo and we'll
get rid of this building as well using the same technique and this is just some
quick work here to to clean up the photo and we'll flatten this to make it one
image itself and we're gonna try using the patch tool here content-aware that
did an okay job but we're gonna have to use some others as well
patching and moving and we'll use the pen tool around the car again
make that selection there just so we don't patch into that and here we go
using portions of the photo painting over there's various ways you can do
this but really with that now here's another photo I have it's a
sky I had taken before so we're gonna copy this and we're gonna paste it into
the image itself we're gonna drop the opacity so we can see where we want this
placed and right there it looks good and we will add a black mask to the sky and
on the background select color range make sure we got a good good selection
here of the sky that's good there and we will select and modify and just expand
this we're just gonna expand this one or two pixels go back to this use the
gradient tool pulling up on the gradient tool and increase the opacity again
that's pretty good there great and we'll flatten that will go into lightroom and
we'll start doing some some adjustments here on the photo will increase the
sharpening and drop the saturation a bit the exposure just to tad and what I
wanted to do here of course increase the contrast and we use a brush here with
the exposure and we're gonna paint the wheels here bring a little bit more
exposure a little bit more brightness to the wheels and go that's looking good
we'll close that increase the clarity here we're gonna paint over the car with
some clarity and a little more attention to the vehicle first with the mask on
turn the mask off so we can get in some of the fine areas there that may have
missed and some of the highlights here it's the exposures a little bit too far
compared to the the bottom half of the car
so we'll just take the highlights down a bit just on the top here okay great so
highlights itself for the whole photo and we'll reduce the exposure in the sky
just a bit here clarity to bring the clouds out just a bit and the whites for
the clouds as well some adjustments there for for the sky itself play around
with this highlight priority a little vignette II it'll add to that saturation
itself
and with the temperature and the exposure we're just gonna bring a little
light in here so what we want to do is just paint a bit on the side where the
lights gonna be coming from a little too much so the temperature and the exposure
now back into Photoshop we're gonna create a fog layer I've done this in
numerous photos that's just to make a better transition here from from the sky
to the actual to the ground itself there on the horizon so we're just creating
we're using a brush tool that I got from Phlearn now this looks a mess for now
but we're gonna blur where you use a Gaussian blur and a little too much
there so we want to kind of paint this away it's over the car which we don't
want we just want it in the background
we can always create another layer of fog for this one here paint this away
it's a little too much that's a bit better let's create a new layer another
fog layer itself just add a little more and that's adding a little bit into the
foreground as well we're gonna reduce the opacity on this as well as well as
add a little Gaussian blur
all right there we go and that's pretty good it's just adding a little bit to
that it's it's very hard to see but it's just adding a little bit to the
foreground itself will zoom in well flatten that as is so we have this one
and we're going to create a background copy and add a little lens flare and
we'll take this to the right side of the photo where we had increased the
exposure as well as a temperature there and Lightroom it's a bit too much don't
like that just want a little bit there and that's good so back over into a
Lightroom we're gonna paint over this and whoops got the temperature a little
high there let's take that down the clarity again we're just bringing a
little bit more attention to the car here with the clarity slider close that
tried the vignette a a bit more this is just making some
final touches here on the image and the foreground how do we feel here with this
let's take the saturation down a bit and the clarity and tint let's just do a
slight adjustment here and we're using these adjustments to get kind of a good
exposure throughout the entire photo and I was a little little dark there okay
that's good and a slight crop a bit more sharpening now this is pretty much it
will make some final adjustments on this photo and really it's just cloning out
the the license plate the sticker that's there in the window we'll just get rid
of those but that's just making some final touches to clean it up a little
bit but that's it that's the that's the end of the photo and what we're doing
here is we're just creating one more fog layer using the same technique
just bring a bit into that and that's good so that's it so thanks very much
and I'll see you again in the next video if you do have some photos you want to
consider to give me the opportunity to maybe process with my own take on the
photo as mentioned get in touch with me by Instagram
