Don't Believe Everything You Hear - Question Everything About Your Health. - Duration: 5:51.

Hi, Dr. Minkoff here.

The history of science and medicine is fraught with

non-science, non-scientific methods.

Basically, entrenched ideas are defended,

and new ideas are put away.

You could take religion, you could take lots of other subjects,

but maybe this is just the nature of human beings,

but if you look at the history of science,

guys like Galileo were thrown in prison because he had different ideas.

The guy who discovered the bacteria that causes ulcers,

was basically dismissed until forty years later.

People started to see

"Oh, yes, an ulcer is an infection caused by this bacteria,

that this particular doctor had figured out years before."

What prompted me to talk about this is,

I'm reading a really interesting book now called "Plague,"

and it's about the epidemics of chronic illness that we're seeing,

and a researcher's idea that maybe there is a certain type of virus sitting underneath of this epidemic

that is being turned on and that is causing it.

And she was pretty much blackballed by the scientific establishment.

Actually arrested, thrown in jail,

because she had ideas which differed from the traditional dogma.

And so, I think a lot of things are being sold to us as public about

what is the science, or "This is the science", and "This is what you should do",

"And this is what you should eat", and "This is what you should take", and "This is right",

and "This next new drug is the best thing ever".

And I think that many, many times, like the vast majority of times,

we're being sold a bill of goods.

And if you look back into earlier practices, and earlier times,

like Chinese medicine, or acupuncture, or herbs, or live plants,

that you find traditions on which based civilizations that survived for thousands of years.

And that right now what we're getting is a whole bunch of baloney and garbage.

And, many times the vehicle for these is this drug or that drug, or this treatment or that treatment.

And whenever I hear this, I'm like, "Whoa!"

What is the real information?

Earlier I talked about LDL cholesterol,

which is the target of a huge multi-billion dollar industry

and it turns out it's not a bad thing.

So, I think I'd like my patients, and the people that I'm talking to--just like you--to hear this things

and question it!

Question it! Is there real science here?

Is there real data here?

Or is this just being promoted by someone who's got a vested interest in doing that thing,

and in selling you that thing?

And, is it really going to make a difference and make your life better?

I think the test of something is, "Does it really work?",

and "Does it not cause harm?"

So, if we're looking at disease or disease categories,

the question is, "What is wrong with you that is actually the reason that you got it?"

And if you find what that thing is, and you fix it, you're gonna be better.

If you find what that thing isn't, and somebody's giving you something that has potential harm or downside,

that isn't going to really make it better, I'd question it.

Now, sometimes people need relief from suffering which is great,

and then they take something which helps them so that they're out of pain or that they feel a little bit better,

but I tell you, people now are prescribing amphetamines to give people energy.

And amphetamines aren't good.

When I was in college, there were these big quotes "Speed kills!"

Well, amphetamines are speed.

Adderall is speed.

People come in here and then "I'm on Adderall. I can't function if I'm not on Adderall."

Well, that isn't why you can't function.

You don't have a deficiency of Adderall.

You have a deficiency if something's wrong with your body,

and the doctor who gave you the Adderall isn't really interested enough to find out why.

So, when these answers come from medical authorities or science authorities,

I just say "Hey, is that really a solution?"

"Is that really a Why?"

And if it's not, I'd pass on it.

Because there is a reason,

and there are well-meaning people who are out there who could help you find the reason.

And when they do, you'll get better.

Okay?

Just a few thoughts for today.

Hope this helps.

What the eyes reveal about our memories (body language) | Papo Cabeça - Duration: 5:20.

People say the eyes are the mirror of the soul...

but, do they have something to tell us

about what goes on inside our heads?

Today I'll show you some secrets

that your eyes reveal about what you think.

So click on the like button and come on to our video!

In today's Papo Cabeça (Smart Talk)

we're going to talk about something that is little known by people,

but it is very useful when we think about body language.

They are the Eye Access Cues.

And as the name itself says,

they are signs that our eyes give

that reveal some information about what we say

or what we think.

We all have lots of ways of memorizing

the information we know.

Three of them are by:

vision, hearing, and kinesthetic,

which are body sensations such as touch, smell, and tasting.

Okay. But what's the relationship

between our memories and our eyes?

As I said before, our eyes send some signs that indicate

some information about what we say

or think, and these signs are directly related to these

three types of memory.

Every time you go through a new experience;

it can be a movie,

a class, a kind of food you've eaten recently;

you record some information.

And within this information can have:

images, sounds, tastes, smells,

physical sensations and so on.

You record a little bit of each one,

and when you try to remember, you'll think

of those features again

and get them there in your "memory bank".

But we can create and imagine sounds, images and sensations as well.

And when you create or imagine something,

you can not get it in your memory

because you are in a process of building, not of remembering.

So how do you know if the person you are talking to

is creating or remembering something?

Well, there is a theory that our brain is divided in two sides:

on the right one we have the creative part and the imagination;

and on the left one we have the logical part and the reason.

So every time you remember something,

you use the left side, because it's something concrete,

and every time you imagine something, you use the right side.

And here is where the great secret behind our eyes lives,

'cause every time we imagine something

our eyes go to the right,

and every time we remember something,

they go to the left.

And as I said in the beginnig of this video, we have visual,

auditory and kinesthetic memories.

Therefore, we can also create images, sounds

and imagine sensations. And The best.

you can also identify it through the eyes.

Every time we look up to the right,

we're creating an image. So,

when we look up to the left,

we're looking for an image in our memory.

You can practice it with your friends

by asking simple questions. For example: What is the color of your bedroom?

How would it be if it was light green? Pay attention to the person's eyes while he/she thinks about the answer.

For the sounds, we look for the sides instead of looking up. To the right to create one,

and to the left to look for one sound in our memory. You can ask questions like:

What is the sound of your alarm clock?

Have you ever thought the voice of a chicken if it spoke?

And the last one, when we look down to the left

we remember some sensation with our body, like a touch, a taste,

getting chills, and so on.

However, when we look down to the right,

we imagine how those sensations would be.

We look in the same way

when we reflect or when we are

talking to ourselves. either thinking about a situation

or imagining how it would be.

What you must remember always,

after making a questions,

is to pay attention to the person's eyes while he/she thinks about the answer.

The eye's movements are very fast!

At first, it's a little hard to notice, but you get it with time. if you prefer

you can start with just one of the three memories and pay attention just on it.

So the next time you're talking to someone,

take some time to pay attention to they're eyes

and to practice your eyes reading.

And something that will help you very much are the questions that you ask.

If you haven't seen the video about the tipes of questions

click here on the screen and go there 'cause it's still in time.

And befora we finish, I would like to know your opinion:

What would change in your live if your communication skills were better than they are today?

Give me your answer down here in the comments and share this video with your friends

to see their answer as well.

because every week I have new videos for you!

I'm Rubens Güths and it was our today's Papo Cabeça

I see you the next video.
