USA news on Youtube Sep 3 2018

Yes, I'm in a new place.

I'm at Columbia University for a camp.

It's a bit like starting uni early,

but it's not that because I'm not starting uni.

But I live in a dormitory now

so I have a roommate,

I have to do laundry,

I have to use communal bathrooms,

I have to sleep with this annoying light (I assure you, it was more annoying than it looks in the video)

and this window that doesn't have blinds because they broke (if you're curious, they never fixed them)

(those are the broken blinds) Actually, that doesn't seem like a good experience when you say it like that...

(Me, editing this video) Ok, in this video, when I say "currently"

I'm trying to say "actually" or "in fact"

But I'm stupid and I say "currently" because in English

It's "actually" which sounds like "actuallement" (the French word for "currently")

You'll see...

But there's one thing that makes all the other things better.

It's: I have two windows in my bedroom (it is, in fact, really amazing)

Yes, I'm the luckiest person in the world.

I can see Broadway and 113th Street.

I can see the entire world; it's fantastic.

It's particularly lucky because there are other rooms that only have an interior view.

Ah, it's the morning; it's a good day.

I'll just open the window here.

Ah, what a terrible view.

It's like the sky doesn't exist here. Look! A dead rat!

And that's probably the most lively thing you'll see if you have a view like this.

But the dorm, it's just a small part of New York.

For example, there's also an entire campus to explore. Let's go.

So my dorm is actually not on the campus, but it's like two pastries to the south.

(Me, while editing this video) "City Blocks" not "Pastries"

There's a big difference between the two.

I probably also made other errors in this video.

Here's Low Library.

There's even an inscription on the building.

It's currently not the university's library now.

because there were so many books

that the library started to sink into the ground.

So they constructed Butler Library on the other side.

It's a very interesting story. What?

That was probably an urban legend, but I thought it was funny.

In front of Low Library, there is an Alma Mater statue.

Somewhere in the statue, there is an owl that is hiding.

The legend says that the first person in your class

who can discover the owl will marry someone very rich

who studied at Columbia University, I think...

And to help you discover it, here's a photo of me where I'm looking at the owl.

From a distance of 150 meters.

You're welcome.

Here's Lerner Hall.

The best thing about this building is the ramps.

They make life very easy.

There are too many buildings on the campus

So here are some photos of the other buildings:

Robert, you're not funny. I'm an idiot.

And that's all you'll see.

But don't worry. There is an entire city to look at.

And the best method to get someplace: the subway.

It's really simple. You can buy a metro card

and just insert your cart to enter in...

Darn, it doesn't work.

Maybe try one more time.

Another time

****

When you finally enter

look for the line that you want and wait for the train.

And when the train arrives... ah, no...

not this train. That's the express train.

It's not that difficult to navigate; just look at the map.

No... no, actually that's not any easier.

Wait... what's this?

What's happening here?

Maybe the train will split in three sections or something like that?

No no no no, there are just three different lines.

The 1, 2, and 3.

But why do they use the same line here on the map?

The MTA likes to confuse people.

Ah, I understand.

Speaking of the subway, one time I was waiting for the train

but it had been like 15 minutes and there wasn't a train that came.

(this is a station) Is there a train at all?

Wait wait wait, it will arrive shortly.

So there wasn't a train.

So I had to go to the station to the south

and then take the train to go north.

It's actually not a very interesting story

I'm just a bit mad because there wasn't a train, and nobody told us.

I'll just take the other train...

No no no no, just wait.

I will just joke.

(me, editing this video) No, Robert, it's not "I will just joke" it's

"I'm just joking"

The New York subway is very simple.

You only need to use it one or two times to learn it

and after that, it's like natural.

It's very simple until

the F train comes on the C line.

I didn't take a video when that happened

But here's a reenactment.

Yes, I want the C line, and now I'll just wait.

Meanwhile

Hello?

Ah yes, my friend...

What an idiot...

If you're in New York and you have some free time,

go to Roosevelt Island. It's just magnificent.

And the best thing:

It's really that there isn't anyone here.

In the center of New York. Incredible.

There's also a park on the south of the island called "The Four Freedoms Park"

And it's about a speech FDR made.

But you can't go to New York and not make a montage video about the city.

So here's exactly that.

Anyways, I liked the city and the university a lot.

After this experience, I want to go to Columbia University a lot more.

It's probably one of my favorite universities.

And yes, I hope I will be accepted there and that I can go there.

But for this video, that's all. Subscribe.
