I am at a self service gasoline station in Japan with a Lamborghini Aventador.
This is my first time ever pumping gas self service in Japan.
America is almost all self service gasoline stations.
I love Japanese full service gas stations...
But today I am going to try gassing up in Japan for the first time by myself.
What is the proper pronunciation for this gas station?
Eneos
That's a hard one to properly pronounce!!
I can't wait to pump gas by myself into this Lamborghini here at this Eneos station!
By doing this myself, the differences between pumping gas in the USA and Japan should be really clear.
The Aventador gas tank is here.
This gas cap is cool!!
"Lamborghini" is engraved on it.
Very cool!
The gas cap holder is right here on the cover.
This Japanese pump is much different than an American pump.
On this touch screen is where you choose the payment method.
I'll choose credit card.
Don't look at my card!!! LOL
It appears I insert the credit card here...
It accepts IC cards and credit cards...
Wow!! The card is back already!! That's fast!
In America, you have to insert and remove the card yourself. Here it's automatic.
I think I'm choosing the "No" option here...
"Do you have a T Card?" No I don't!
American Express only.
Wow, that was fast!!!!
I love how everything here is digital... touch screen.
American pumps are all analog!!
I choose Premium "Hi-Octane"
"Full Tank"
That is great!! These pumps are really advanced!!
The "Hi-Octane" pump is the yellow one.
This is also different than America! We have Octane analog buttons to push.
This handle is so light!!
This is so Japanese!!!
"Anti-Bacterial Static Elimination" grip!!!
Wow!! and it's so light!!
Inserting it seems to be the same as America...
Let me squeeze this...
Wow!! It's so easy to dispense!
Compared to an American pump where you need to grip hard, this is so easy to use!
This is light, easy to grip and dispenses gas fast!!
Another big difference is that there is no lock for the handle...
You can lock an American pump into position to fill....
That way you don't have to sit there and hold it the entire time!
When you don't have that lock, you just gotta stand here and wait....
wait....
wait....
And with a big tank like this Lambo, it can take a while!!
I also just realized they have this on the pumps too!
"Touch this first"
This is to eliminate static electricity.
Another huge difference is how clean this gas station is!!!
In America we would be surrounded by sticky old gum, dirt, gas and oil on the ground too.
Nobody cleans up anything at American gas stations...
It's not good!!
The Japanese pump is clean and also about double in size than the American pump.
Similar to America, each pump offers Regular, Premium and Diesel as well...
But being able to pay cash at the pump is something America does not have for sure!!!
In America if that option was even available, it likely would be broken!
Even the analog credit card reader on US pumps don't work a lot of the time!!
Receipts don't print many times either!!
Why is it like that!?!?!
This pump is very fast and quiet too!
The animation music and video is cool too!! Very Japanese!
Another difference with American pumps is this swivel connector.
This bends where the hose connects to the dispenser.
It seems like a smart design idea.
The American hose is thicker and straight with no bend to it. It is heavier than this is too.
With this bendable hose it helps work with different shapes of tanks on individual cars.
Pretty simple and smart idea!
I'm pretty sure in America the hoses are straight with no swivel or bend like this.
Japanese really put a lot of thought into little things like this...
even in a gas station pump!!
Very cool!!
Let me put the dispenser back...
OMG! Its done already!!! That is fast!
I am very impressed!
A beautiful clean pump...
super fast service...
I just dispensed 47 liters...
OMG! It's really expensive in Japan!! That is another difference!
Not quite double the USA price, but expensive!!!
It may be expensive, but I enjoyed the opportunity to experience this myself finally!
And to be able to compare the experience here to America was fun too!!
"Attendant Call Button"
This doesn't exist in America...
Even if it does, pushing it will likely get you no help at all!! LOL
No one will come, your receipt won't print, and it wont read your credit card either!!
You definitely can't pay with cash at the pump...
I like the level of detail in these pumps...
In America we wouldn't have static electric touch pads like this...
And the pump is so clean and nicely designed too!
That is the biggest difference for me!
If you've travelled to America before, what was your self-service gasoline experience like?
