Good morning guys.
Actually it is good afternoon.
Good afternoon guys.
Good afternoon guys.
So we are heading for some Peruvian fast food.
We are going to be trying some Peruvian style burgers and we are heading to a place that
we visited two years ago.
Yes.
This place is called Bembos.
Right around the corner.
And unfortunately you still have chubby chipmunk cheeks from your urgh haha from your little
surgery.
I need to address my face.
Yes.
You had your wisdom teeth removed.
In case you missed it all 4 came out.
Yes.
So I'm looking a little black and green under the chin.
And this is day 4 so I'm going to be doing most of the eating but um Audrey you might
be able to have a few things hopefully.
Maybe ice cream.
Ho ho ho!
It is here.
Oh my gosh.
Oh my gosh these are the medium size.
They are huge!
I know.
They are huge!
I know.
And to think that is not even the biggest size you can get.
It looks amazing.
I wish I could eat the burgers.
I feel like I'm going to try and nibble a little bit just to get a taste.
Yeah.
I hope you can.
I hope you can.
Really.
Okay so we are about to have a major burger session here.
I know.
3 of them.
Three of them.
And I'm going to be eating most of it.
Yeah and the cool thing about Bembos is that they have very unique burgers with a bit of
a Peruvian twist.
Well yeah they are Peruvian style burgers.
Yeah.
Like for instance this one is called the Salchipapa so basically if you take a look inside here
you'll see like the cut up hot dog.
Okay.
And then you've got your small papa fritas.
Your small french fries and then this is the special sauce and then you've got basically
your burger and your cheese.
In he goes.
Mmmm.
And I think it is kind of unusual like having those little chips inside the burger.
That is not something you see everywhere.
It gives it a nice crunch.
And I really like the cut up hotdog.
Like it is so much better than just normal hotdog.
Yeah.
It just gives it an extra bit of a kick.
Bit of a spice.
Yeah.
This is a really good burger.
Like and this burger is called Salchipapa yeah because there is a fast food dish where
it is french fries with slices of hot dog.
Yeah exactly.
And like cheese and sauces.
That is something we've had before here in Lima and it is a really good one of our favorite
fast food snacks to be honest.
Yeah.
So to have it in burger form is really cool.
And you know what is funny?
Coming back here two years later there is certain things I remember about this place.
I remember they like blasted loud music before.
Haha.
Yeah.
And it is exactly the same.
Yep.
Some things don't change and that is kind of cool.
Is he ready for hamburger number 2?
Number 2.
And this one is the most jacked of the three.
It has the most ingredients inside.
So this one is called Bembos lomo a la pobre.
We open it up and you see we've got mayonnaise on top we've got our egg.
Yeah, fried egg.
And this is the coolest part in my opinion.
The fried plantain.
Yeah.
And it is usually a little bit sweet if I remember correctly and underneath check out
all of those onions guys and then tomatoes.
So that should be a really juicy burger.
You know with the egg and the plantain and the onions.
There is a lot of different flavours going on so time for the first big bite here.
I'm going to try and get a bit of everything.
Mmmm.
Oh wow.
Such an eclectic mix.
It is like the first thing I tasted was the onions but then my teeth like sunk into the
burger.
And then there was the sweetness of the banana of the plantain and the egg.
It is a really eclectic burger.
Yeah.
And in terms of ingredients it is probably your best bang for your buck that you can
get here in Bembos.
Like there is just a lot of ingredients going on.
If you're really hungry this is definitely the burger for you.
Yeah.
And also I have to say like we're having the hamburger a la pobre.
Yep.
But you can get this dish with rice.
Yes.
And with your plantain and your meat.
Yep.
It is not just a burger.
So again this is inspired by a typical Peruvian food.
Yeah.
In burger form.
So this is again a very unique Peruvian burger.
Alright guys and before we reveal the third hamburger we're going to get Audrey trying
a little something.
She can eat fries with those chubby chipmunk cheeks so let's get in there.
I can eat them near the front of my mouth.
Haha.
Yeah.
Exactly.
So we're rolling with that.
We're rolling with it.
We're rolling with it.
So I've got some fries.
They are really nice and crispy.
Yeah.
And what I love about Bembos here in Peru is that you can get it with aji amarillo.
Yep.
Which is a spicy sauce dunk that in made with yellow pepper.
Yep.
It is a hot pepper.
And yeah it is just so good.
I prefer it to ketchup to be honest.
Uh huh.
Absolutely.
The only problem is this is spicy and it is burning my wounds.
Oh no!
Haha.
Oh no!
You're not supposed to eat spicy food.
Oh well you're going to have to wash it down with the local Chicha Morada purple corn drink.
Chicha Morada.
Yeah.
This is my go-to anytime we're at a restaurant.
Yeah.
I'm getting Chicha Morada.
I think it is pretty much the most refreshing drink you can get in Peru.
Like I love it.
Mmmhmm.
I love it.
Okay guys last but not least we are having I think it is called the Huachana burger.
Huachana.
Ah, Huachana.
Okay so this burger right here has egg.
Yeah.
It has got those crispy little potato chips in there.
Right in here.
It has mayo.
Yep.
Um and lettuce.
The burger.
What else did I say oh the sausage.
Salchicha de huacho.
It is a type of sausage.
Okay.
So let's try it finally.
Mmmhmm.
Another big bite for Sam.
Mmmm.
I taste more of the egg than anything else.
Really?
Um yeah.
I'm curious about the sausage.
I think it is supposed to be spicy.
Like that orange.
I'm not tasting stuff you see in there.
I'm not tasting it that strongly.
Really?
There is a little bit in there but to be honest it is a decent burger but out of the three
this is probably my least favorite.
I like the other two more.
Yeah.
This is still decent but the other two those ones are top notch.
And out of the other two which one do you think you would choose?
The salchipapa or the a la pobre with the plantain?
Okay I really like the salchipapa for the spicy hotdogs.
Yeah.
But I think if I was hungry I would go for the second burger because it has the most
ingredients and the plantain for the win.
Dessert is here.
Dos postres.
So they are both ice cream.
One is with the Doña Pepa.
Yeah.
Which is the famous Peruvian cookie covered with the chocolate and sprinkles.
The sprinkles.
Yep.
And chocolate sauce.
And this one over here I think it called cua cua.
Oh and it looks like chocolate wafers and we have manjar blanco which is like the sweet
of the milk roughly translated in English.
It doesn't translate so well.
I tend to think of it as caramel sauce.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well this I can certainly enjoy in my condition.
Yes.
So we've found something Audrey can do.
Something I can finally enjoy.
She can enjoy in this video.
So I went downstairs and got us two ice creams.
They are both vanilla.
Yep.
With different toppings.
This one is the Doña Pepa style which is a popular cookie yeah with sprinkles and they
also put some sprinkles here with chocolate sauce.
Just random question do they have dona pepa in Argentina?
Did you grow up eating these?
No.
No.
Okay.
No.
I didn't think so.
I thought they were uniquely Peruvian.
Mmmhmm.
Cool.
So uniquely Peruvian fast food dessert too.
Haha.
This is nice I really like it with the chocolate sauce.
Yeah it is so colorful and then over here we have the cua cua.
Yeah.
And I think last time we were calling it cua cua and then my Aunt was like no cua cua like
a duck.
Cua cua like a duck.
And you can't have the biscuits.
No I can't bite into that but this does have manjar blanco.
Yeah that caramel sauce.
And that I can certainly enjoy.
Oh yeah.
Mmmm.
And do you have a favorite amongst the two?
The Doña Pepa.
The chocolate.
Cool.
I just really like the chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
Alright my turn to try them.
Okay alright and unlike you I can actually bit into the biscuits here.
Alright enjoy.
Let's try that.
I've got lots of sparkles on my ice cream.
Lots of sprinkles.
Sparkles or sprinkles?
Sprinkles.
Why do I always call them sparkles.
Mmmm.
Oh wow.
And you can use the cookie like a spoon if you want to.
To scoop your ice cream.
I love that cookie.
Oh my gosh that is so good.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
That would make a nice little spoon too.
Yeah.
We have a whole bunch of those cookies in my Grandma's house right now.
Mmmm.
And I'm going to try the chocolate sauce.
Oh do we?
Yeah.
Alright.
Mmmm.
That is so good.
Now onto the cua cua.
Cua cua.
Okay so I'm going to make sure I get lots of manjar blanco here because I am a manjar
blanco fan.
In fact my favorite Peruvian dessert's all have manjar blanco.
Like my favorites are churros con manjar blanco.
The churros filled with this and my second favorite is the chirimoya with manjar blanco.
So yeah anything with manjar blanco is a hit.
Let's try that first.
Oh yeah.
I definitely prefer that over the chocolate sauce.
But now to see if this uh cua cua.
Mmm.
Okay that is just a light chocolate um wafer.
Yeah.
I definitely prefer the okay.
So I've got to explain this I prefer this more than to the cua cua.
You like the cookie the Doña Pepa cookie better.
But I prefer the manjar blanco sauce yeah to the chocolate so it is I'm kind of mixed
as to which one.
I would probably go for the Doña Pepa if push came to shove.
Because the biscuit is better.
Okay and I'll also mention these are like the Peruvian style soft serve ice creams.
Yep.
But you can also get the classic one with like you know the hot fudge and like the strawberry
sauce.
That is right.
Basically the same thing you find at Mcdonald's.
Yeah, exactly.
And they have a little stand down there and you can also order off of the street.
There is just people walking down the street grabbing them.
As like a refreshing like dessert or snack.
Yeah.
These are cooler.
Way cooler.
These definitely have more going on.
Alright it is that time price point.
So it came to 65 Soles which right now is roughly $20 US dollars.
And yeah that was a lot of food.
So I'm just going to recap what we had.
So that was 2 Chicha Morada drinks.
Mmmhmm.
Then we had 3 giant burgers.
They were medium sized but they were massive.
They were big believe me.
A thing of fries and two desserts.
So I thought that was pretty good value.
Roughly $10 dollars per person.
Yep.
And yeah um I wouldn't normally come and eat three burgers.
I basically had to eat all of the burgers my gosh am I ever stuffed.
I'm going to need a big siesta.
You enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed it.
And I didn't eat all of the buns I have to confess because I wanted to get into the toppings
otherwise that would have filled me up.
But yeah that is pretty good fast food and if you're going to come to Peru and you're
looking for something like unique and you want to try Peruvian style kind of fast food
this is definitely the place because Bembos has all of these different types of burgers.
Like we didn't even order all of the ones that you can get here.
So definitely check it out and we'll see you guys in the next food video from Lima, Peru.
Ciao for now.
