(upbeat jazz music)
- Hello and welcome.
My name is Sarah and I am the content creator
behind the BookTube channel Not Just Romance Novels,
and I'm here today to talk to you guys
all about one of my favorite authors, Maisey Yates.
I have a handful of books of hers to share with you guys,
so let's jump in and get started.
So, the first book that I wanna talk about
is called The Billionaire's Marriage Deal,
and this is actually an anthology
of two of the author's previously published works,
now put out, excuse me, as an ebook.
The first story is called "Her Little White Lie,"
and it's about a woman named Paige
who's trying to get custody of
her best friend's infant daughter,
and the social worker who's working her case
is kind of questioning how she plans on
raising this child as a single mother,
so she let's a little white lie out and states that
she's actually engaged to her billionaire boss.
She didn't expect it to go
any further than the social worker,
but of course, people talk,
and it ended up in the papers,
because he's an extremely well-known individual,
always out on the society pages, he's a playboy.
Well, he of course is very upset at first,
but then actually agrees to marry her,
because of course it's gonna help her get the little girl,
but more importantly to him, it's gonna help him
look better in the eyes of society
that he is now becoming a family man,
which of course, in turn, is gonna help
the business in the long run.
And of course, their relationship goes from there.
The second story is called
"The Couple Who Fooled the World,"
and I really enjoyed this one.
It was about a couple by the name of Julia and Ferro,
and the two of them run a, you know,
two separate multimedia empires,
think cell phones, cable, internet, that kind of thing.
And of course, they are rivals,
and they are always at each other's throats,
and they are always trying to up one another
and sabotage one another, and you know,
it's well known that they do not get along,
and they have decided now to actually
work together behind the scenes
to get rid of a third competitor
that has now come out on the market.
And in order to make it look more plausible,
they decide to enter into a fake relationship,
so that way, when they do try and take over
this third company, it doesn't seem so out of the blue.
And of course, you know, the relationship for them
goes from there, and it is super adorable,
and I really, really enjoyed it.
The next book I wanna talk about
is called The Rancher's Baby,
and it is the first book in the Texas Cattleman's Club
The Imposter series.
This is a Harlequin Desire novel,
and it was a really great book because
not only was it a great romance,
but it also had that air of mystery and intrigue in it.
This book gripped me right from the beginning.
So, right at the beginning of this novel,
we meet our main character, Selena,
and she is at the funeral for her ex-husband,
and she has a letter stating that
she is now the sole heir to his
estate and his fortune.
The only problem is is that there are four other women
at this funeral with the same letter.
And just to add more fuel to the fire,
in walks the supposed dead ex-husband,
now very much alive.
So, Selena's best friend, Knox,
has come to the funeral to offer his support,
but when Will, the ex-husband comes in,
you know, he starts to question something is going on.
Somebody died, but they don't know who it is,
so Knox move in with Selena
to try and take care of her,
because of course, he thinks that something's after her
and something, you know, nefarious is going on.
And of course, they have a relationship.
It's a really interesting story,
it really kinda kept me guessing,
and I'm very much looking forward to
reading the rest of the series.
The last books I wanna talk about
are all part of the same series,
and that is the Gold Valley series,
and this is a small town contemporary romance series.
For those of you who might not know,
small town contemporary romance is my catnip.
It is my favorite thing ever,
and this series has not disappointed.
It centers around three brothers
and their best friend.
And they are the Dodge brothers.
There is Bennet, Wyatt, and Grant,
and their best friend Luke,
and they run a dude ranch called,
wait for it, Get Out of Dodge.
I have to wonder if Maisey Yates
named the ranch and then the family
or the family and then the ranch.
I'm curious.
But anyway, I'm gonna tell you guys about
the books that I've read so far.
I read books one, two, and three,
and I also read one of the novellas
that falls between book one and book two,
so let me just quickly tell you guys about them.
So, the first book in this series
is called Smooth-Talking Cowboy,
and this is Olivia and Luke's story.
Prior to this book starting,
Olivia had been dating Bennett,
one of the Dodge brothers,
and she broke up with him right around the holidays
because she thought that he was going to propose to her
and he did not.
So, when this story opens up,
she is trying to win Bennett back,
and she decides that she is going to fake date Luke,
which is of course one of Bennett's best friends.
Luke is the town playboy,
so the relationship, to most people,
seems a little out of the norm,
because Olivia's very straight-laced,
whereas Luke has kind of been around the block, if you will.
And you know, so people are thinking this just,
they almost don't believe it.
There is a lot of issues, of course,
with Bennett and Luke, that he's mad at Luke
for what's going on, and things like that.
Their relationship was really cute,
and I really do think that they were adorable together.
You know, once things kind of all got worked out,
I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
The next one that I read is actually the novella
that comes between book number one and book number two,
and that is called Mail Order Cowboy.
This one does not follow any of the Dodge brothers
or any of that part, but they are other characters
who live within the town of Gold Valley.
And this is the story of Jackson and Savannah,
and one morning, Jackson is getting up
and getting ready to go to work
and then there's a knock on his front door,
so he answers the door, and there stands a woman
that he had a one night stand with
who is holding a little baby
and she thrusts the baby on him and says,
she's yours, see ya later, and takes off.
So of course, you know, he's stunned
and he just doesn't believe it,
but he knows the second he looks at this little girl
that she must be his.
So, of course, he has a paternity test done,
and of course, he is, in fact, the father.
So, not knowing really what to do
or how to care for a baby,
he goes online and hires a nanny
by the name of Savannah,
and she comes and she move in with him,
and the sparks fly from there.
You know, kind of one of those
relationship from proximity kind of stories.
And it was really cute.
It was short, of course, it's only a novella.
But I really enjoyed meeting these characters,
and he's got a whole extended family, Jackson does,
and I'm really hoping that, later on,
Maisey Yates develops some stories about those characters,
because they seem like a lot of fun.
The second book in the series is called Untamed Cowboy,
and this is actually Bennett's story.
Now, to say this, I really didn't care for Bennett
in the first book.
I had some issues with him with,
you know, the way things were kind of treated
between him and Luke.
But in this story, he absolutely redeems himself 100%.
This is the story of him and Kaylee,
and Kaylee has been his best friend
since they were 13 years old.
They ended up going to vet school together
and they now run the town veterinarian practice.
She has been in love with him for all that time,
but he never thought of her as any more than a friend.
And then situations start to change.
Something from his past comes back that,
of course, I do not wanna give away,
but it kind of affects, you know,
the way he starts thinking about life
and thinking about Kaylee,
and thinking about his family,
and there's a lot of growth to his character
throughout the story,
and I really, really enjoyed it.
There were some great characters in this book.
Of course, again, I do not wanna give too much away
for the kind of surprise part of this story,
but I thoroughly enjoyed one of the new characters
that is introduced.
And yeah, I absolutely, I have to think that
this may have been my favorite
of the three that I've read,
but it wasn't my favorite by much.
I loved all of these stories.
So, the third book in the series
is called Good Time Cowboy,
and this one comes out on August 21st.
This is Lindy and Wyatt's story.
Now, the really fun thing about this one
is that this story has been building since book number one.
You are introduced to both Lindy and Wyatt,
of course, in book one,
and they have interactions in both book one
and book two together.
The two of them have a volatile relationship.
They do not like each other.
Actually, to be fair, it's more that Lindy
does not care for Wyatt.
You know, you really don't find out why at first,
but it's alluded to because
he was best friends with her ex-husband,
or very good friends with her ex-husband.
They used to ride the rodeo circuit together.
And the divorce between her and her ex-husband
was not on good terms by any stretch of the imagination,
so I'm believing that, you know,
Wyatt kind of reminds her of that time,
and you know, she doesn't wanna be reminded of it,
but yet the two of them are working
in very close proximity to each other,
because of course, he owns and runs
the Get Out of Dodge Ranch,
and she owns a local winery not far from the ranch,
and the two of them have decided to kind of join forces
to bring business to each other's businesses, essentially.
And, you know, with them working in
such close proximity to each other, the sparks fly,
and you know, the two of them
kind of start this relationship,
and you know, it was really a lot of fun because
they still claim that they don't like each other,
but yet they're sleeping together,
and yeah, it was really, really highly enjoyable.
But yes, if you enjoy small town contemporary romance,
please do yourself a favor and pick these books up.
So anyway guys, that is it for this video.
I do hope that you enjoyed it,
and I hope you will join me for my next one.
Until then, take care and happy reading everybody.
Bye.
