Hello everybody! Welcome back to another video
of this Youtube Channel called " In Martin's Garage "
This time I'll practice But at the same time
I'm going to show you these two products from
WALTER SURFACE TECHNOLOGIES who are the sponsors of this video
And those are the two pieces of Stainless Steel
that I want to apply the Brushed Finish
once again! this project will be for practicing since I have planned to do another project for my house
and I've been thinking to do the same finish
In the intro I showed you the two tools that we are going to use
but these are the attachments that I need for the project
This attachment it's called QUICK-STEP ( 07-Q 049 )
Backing pads have a hook & loop fastening system with a centering pin for vibration free operation
really easy to install and really easy to attach the disc that we need
This is the first tool I'll use and it's called
" The Quick-Step Big-Buff III"
here in the bottom part is the dial that allows us to select the RPM
above you can find the RPM chart
what I really liked is the shape of the trigger so that it does NOT activate by accident
Here the only thing I'm showing you is How easy is to install this Backing Pad and the finishing disc
You can get different discs depending on the task (Sanding, buffing, etc.)
But the disc that I need is called QUICK-STEP BLENDEX MEDIUM
These discs are available in five different grits to take you from removing scratches to a last step before decorative or polishing finishes
I'm using the Medium Grit that helps me to remove the deep scratches
Remember! before attaching or removing any attachment to any tool
make sure to unplug the tool from the power source!!! ALWAYS! :)
Once again! I'm not an expert doing this! and this is the first time I'm doing this kind of task
But if You know how to do this please leave me a tip in the comment section
that will help me a lot
I'm just cleaning this metal piece and I'll use the tool between 4000 to 5000 RPM
this will allow me to remove those deep scratches that are everywhere in this metal piece
Did I say this is the first time I'm doing this? :) Well I made a mistake that I will show you later
I have these two pieces for practicing which is good
Alright let's remove all the deep scratches
OK here is where we have to pay attention!
The Stainless Steel has some kind of lines or brushed finish
and when I'm doing this first step I have to follow those lines
but the way the disc is touching the metal
I'm creating transversal lines
I decided to continue to see the final finished side by side with my second piece
but in the second piece I did it the right way
And that was my mistake so please don't do what I did
Now let's use the Line-Mate III tool with the TWO-IN-ONE Drum
This drum combines two finishing steps into one: the coated abrasive cloth cuts aggressively while the BLENDEX flaps produce a satin line finish.
The Line-Mate III tool also includes the same Dial, RPM chart & same Trigger than The Quick-Step Big-Buff III
The drum size is 4.5 x 4 ( No. 07k442 )
and the tool is set between 1500 to 200 RPM
The movement that we have to do is from the top to the bottom of the metal piece, following the lines or brushed lines
and that's because of the way of the drum is spinning
This is the second piece of metal
I had better image quality while I was working on the second piece of metal
but it was the same process
just remember that the first step in my second piece was in the right direction
here you can see the two pieces side by side and you can see the mistake I did
I cleaned them BUT the light reflection won't let the camera get a good image
But you can see the two pieces all finished in two steps
Alright here we have the two pieces all finished but one piece was done wrong and one was done right
this is what happened and this is what I learnt
this is the first time I tried to do this
Now I have a plan for another project where I want to do the same brushed finish
this was a good project for practicing
This is what happened : The way the disc was touching the metal and the way I was moving the tool was wrong
When I was moving the tool this way I was creating lines in a different direction
And when I used the second tool I was creating transversal lines
And that's why in my first piece I have lines crossing each other
It doesn't look good BUT that's why I used this project for practicing and learning
That's why in my second piece I moved the tool in the right direction
the Brushed finish in this piece is right
The plan for these two pieces is: I need to build two wooden doors and instead of having a wooden panel in the center, I'll use these pieces
These pieces have the protective film in the back
Which means I can remove it and do the same process and get a perfect brushed finish
and the one with the wrong finish can go on the back side of the door
I believe this was a great project for practicing
Thanks a lot to WALTER SURFACE TECHNOLOGIES for sponsoring this video
In future projects we will use these tools. I'm getting some ideas now!
I'm planning to build a TV unit and I've been thinking to have this brushed finish
Maybe the legs of that TV unit?
But I found out that the welding machine I have is not going to work with stainless steel
That means I have to get a different welding machine or hire somebody to weld the pieces together
Alright! if You like this video please push that like button, Maybe share it?
Don't forget to follow me on instagram @mkholdings123
Push that bell button that way Youtube will notify you every time I upload a video
And as always we will see each other in the next video
THANKS FOR WATCHING :) !!!!
