Nissan vs Toyota... Long time rivals!
Approximately 30 years after these 2 cars were made, the 2 companies are still rivals!
Both of these cars are 1990 models.
Some people like Nissans....
and others prefer Toyotas....
If you watch my channel you know I tend to favor Nissan.
In all honesty I like all kinds of cars....
and comparing 2 similar cars like this a lot of fun!
Two 1990 car keys...
Nissan and Toyota keys from the same era.
This one is for a Nissan Cedric or Cima...
and this one is for a Toyota Crown.
Both are pretty cool keys, but the cooler of the two is definitely....
Nissan!!! This key is way cooler than the Crown key!
Nice detail on this key... the old Nissan Skyline GT-R keys are really cool too!
The Crown key is ok.... but it's really simple... plain jane....
I think I'm the only one in America with 3 VIP sedans like these...
2 Crowns and 1 Cima.
I like VIP style a lot!!
It's not so much about Toyota or Nissan....
its about being open minded to different styles like VIP!
I like all kinds of cars; it doesn't matter who made them!
It's fun to drive and experience cars I've never been around before.
Instead of choosing 1 brand or 1 type of car....
it's certainly more fun to try a wide variety of different cars and styles!!
Each style and type of car has its own interesting points...
These 2 rivals are very similar in many ways...
Both being 1990 models, they share similar style parts for sure.
Square headlights...
Similar style front ends too...
While some things share similarities, many things on these 2 cars are very different.
Look at the differences in taillights.
Toyota taillights were much bigger than Nissan Cimas' were.
Both have these cars have had some VIP modifications done...
but the rear ends of each of these cars are noticeably different.
Toyota wins for big and bold design in the rear!
Compared to the Nissan taillights which are very narrow and sleek...
Nissan wins hands down in comparing the different options....
By comparison, the Toyota is much simpler...
The big difference with this Crown and the other one I have is....
This 1990 model was the first year of the digital dash board.
Nissan was still analog dash in 1990!
Toyota win!!
Toyota was quicker to move to digital technology.
The seats and material are really similar in both cars.
The smell of both cars are a bit different....
They both smell like Japan! LOL
But the Cima was smoked in for a long time and it stinks like cigarettes!
But this Crown is like brand new!
It smells like Japan but no cigarette smell in here!
It only has 71,000 original kilometers!
Of the 3 VIP sedans I have, this car is the most original and unmolested of all!
The entire dash and radio controls are all original.
In some ways Toyota was far ahead of Nissan.
Nowadays, everyone has at least one cell phone....
or 2 or more like I tend to carry...
In 1990 Toyota came equipped with this large open center console...
In the Cima, this center area is a huge Brake release level!
There is no place to out your phone(s)!
But this Toyota offers ample room!!
Plenty of room for today's devices.
There is even more storage space here too!
On top of that there are tons of hiding spots in this car!!
Cell phones can even fit inside here!
Here is for ....
I forgot, this was broken!
I see the benefit for all these storage areas now!
Toyota may have been ahead of its time with this thinking!?!?!
That's a win for the Crown over the Cima for sure!!
But honestly, as far as design elements are concerned, the Nissan seems more modern.
The Cima feels newer and more modern.
If we went "Back to the Future" and compared these cars in 1990...
The digital dash on the Toyota is more modern, but the rest of this car is very 80's feeling!
Nissan seemed to be a little ahead of Toyota in "modernizing" certain elements of the interior.
But from a practical use point of view...
Toyota is the winner for sure!
The Nissan Cima doesn't have this much storage areas....
It's loaded with options but not practical space.
The steering wheel on this car is really simple in comparison.
The condition of this Crown is fantastic... so original!
The VIP tassel and knot aren't really original, but....
nor or the wheels and body kit....
but the interior and rest are all original!
I was happy to be able to get AM talk radio on the Japanese stereo!
I wonder if FM will connect too??
It's searching for channels...
will it stop??
I got a channel!
But American frequency is higher....
This feels very 80's to me!
I can't believe the original plastic wrap is still on these visors.
Japanese are the only people on earth to do this!!
No way will Americans keep this plastic!
You know, it's a nice idea....
but once the plastic gets this nasty, it might be better to get rid of it!!
It will probably look better without the plastic now!
This car sounds good too!
But the Cima sounds the best of the 3 cars (turbo)...
"No card is inserted"
No use for the card reader here in the USA.
Sounds good but it is gutless... not very powerful.
I think when you push the gas pedal on a luxury sedan like this....
it should feel smooth and powerful!
I like this Crown but would like it much better in a V8 version.
The Cima is much faster and much smoother than the Crowns I have.
This car does have "Power" mode.
But even in Power Mode, it doesn't help too much!
This 6 cylinder engine just doesn't have a lot of power...
Power Mode or no Power Mode doesn't matter!
The best way to drive this car is like a manual transmission....
Manually shift, 1st, 2nd, 3rd...
at least its a little more fun to drive this way!
'Power Mode" LOL
I'm not complaining... I'm just saying that I look forward to the day of driving a V8 version of this car!!!!
