USA news on Youtube Apr 15 2018

ouch can we put on the tripod good okay Wow I know where my jacket well I got to

turn the heat if I'm a jacket or sweater all right I'll put on a sweater what's

up guys welcome back to our Channel today we're doing a little bit of a

different style vid stir we're doing a Q & A you guys seem to like the Q days we

had a lot of Q's about Mexico hopefully if we have a lot of A's I'm not sure

we'll do our best to answer it and hope you enjoy yeah for those of you who are

familiar we're Eamon and Bec we just spent almost two months driving down

from Toronto Canada - all the way to like Oaxaca the coast of Mexico

had a lot of fun we had a lot of fun a lot of fun Amon took to his Instagram

which is at 8.2 showdown if you'd like to follow me as well I'm at Rebecca

Maroni and I'm both feeling 2 below and right here sure anyways I think I'd like

to just start the Q&A if it's okay with a little chat really briefly about how

we felt pretty going into Mexico it's a good idea and how nervous we were and

all of these things that were probably a little subconscious like you were in

this mood and I could tell you were just nervous and really scared but yeah I

mean like you talked to anybody about going to Mexico at least in Canada or

North America like you get wet brainwashed by the media all you see on

the media is kidnapped here stabbed here robbed here so they love to highlight

and spin Mexico as a dangerous place now that doesn't mean that it's not

dangerous like there definitely are cartels the narcos are there there's a

lot of crime so that always kind of sits in the back

your mind we can tell you as much as we want about how great of an experience we

had but everyone's experience is different people are generally really

and ax goes no different yeah we've been saying like when we catch up with people

back home now that I'm trying to like everyone goes where did you feel unsafe

did you feel into first question and we said we felt way less safe and some of

the US cities that we drove through especially Chicago and these places that

we thought like oh it's a big developed city and we'll be fine

but it certainly didn't feel that way so it almost feels like we've answered a

question about safety but I just kind of wanted to start it off by saying like a

disclaimer before we went to Mexico I wish we had seen a video that chatted

about these kinds of things and hopefully this video this QA if you're

headed there oh by the way to even tell people that we're in our van tell me

more why not know we drove in our van in there let's jump into your specific

questions so again these are from a man's Instagram and you guys had tons of

questions so we'll start off a little easy this is from at life's and awesome

wave it's funny when it's all in Denver together I can't even okay so life's an

awesome way of ass how was the heat in your man I know in your conversion you

did not install a/c was it ever uncomfortable hot I will be spending a

good amount of time in Baja on the beaches and I'm wondering if I should

install an a/c unit good question great question I think the first thing that

comes to mind is depends on the time of year so we were lucky it was kind of a

shoulder season and it wasn't getting into like the rainy he made crazy heat

that Mexico gets so be aware like what point of the year you're traveling I

wouldn't say it was unbearable I definitely wouldn't say it's unbearable

but if you watch back some of the videos I'll link them here we were kind of or

at least I was struggling in the 40 degree weather like it definitely got

hot and what I would say is the days that were really hot we seem to be by

the beach like those 14 degree days were by the beach and what we would do is

like I felt with kid we're playing all day you're out in the water you have

great food with like friends and then you're so tired by the time it's time to

go to bed that even if you are a little uncomfortably hot

you just kind of crush yeah if that means I mean you make do we've got a

fantastic fan and we've got like a little rotating fan that kind of that

little rotating fan is almost more keyed in effect I think it was yeah cuz it

just blows you know air onto your body as you're sleeping so we didn't I don't

think AC is that key and if I if I had we had the same amount of power usage I

wouldn't want to not make a smoothie in the blender or not have power to charge

my laptop because I wanted to have AC at night so you would need a pretty big

battery bank to be able to pull it off I think young and able she asks what

precautions did you take to make sure you weren't inviting trouble so I'll

start with this one I think one of the biggest things that we've done and

especially in our travels like we've kind of neutered throughout it is that

we don't invite trouble like you're saying so we don't go out and party we

don't stay out past late we would never drive after jars all of those little

things that I think set you up to get into totally we have tinted windows

anytime we'd park overnight we put the the privacy screen up you'd make sure

that you wouldn't have any like camera equipment or anything in the front you

just don't want to invite an invitation even moment when we first got into

Mexico I put blocked up duct tape on the

Mercedes logo like that's how kind of paranoid if you wanna comb that I was

because these people don't have a lot of money

and if they are criminals then you're just giving them an invitation yeah so

you just want to stay incognito I do this to all my cameras because it just

once again adds a little bit of discreteness I don't know if you guys

can see that but I cover up all the brand names so the Canon logo I do that

on the Canon the GH five it's just once again people see Canon they think

expensive so this is from mrs. Brooke or yeah mrs. Brooke she says would you

change any planning if you went to Mexico for a Mexico trip 2.0 if you

wouldn't change anything what would be the things in places experiences you

would go back to like that you would just double down on and you're so

excited to get back to um first things first we definitely plan

on going back to Mexico absolutely 150 percent I think for me

just quickly speaking as much as I've loved so many of the places that we've

been in Mexico it's not that I wouldn't want to go back there it's just that I

feel like the world is so big and there's so much to explore and I'm so

excited to see more of it when we hung out with Max and Lee they spent almost

two months in Baja which we had always kind of thought Oh everyone seems to go

to above all a lot of van lifers are there it can't be all that great but it

sounds like if you really give it time you can discover some amazing places in

Baja they love it they nobody I might have birthed a little bit why why can't

you just pretend just why you always say something you like we need to go back to

a haka and get a real good coastal vacation out of it because we only spent

maybe five days in that area and it was so incredible so I might go back to some

of the exact same spots but I would definitely want to do more in that area

like we haven't touched Tulum that whole coast Oh the Yucatan is like a whole

other trip like there's so much to do a lot of questions about the language

barrier and speaking Spanish we had I think three months when we were in South

America so we learned a little bit of Spanish there but like really not much

but it's amazing like once you have that little bit it is sort of a base but I

think to be honest you'd figure it out like the technology is so amazing now if

we will translate and stuff like that you know we basically bought a whole new

engine and communicated a tow truck to pick us up in Mexico and pull us in the

border like that was pretty complicated so yes but you will enjoy it a lot more

if you do know Spanish yeah but also like learning is part of the journey so

there's so many comments like use Google Translate or that it was either that or

I can't believe you don't know Spanish and it was like worship we're on this

journey of learning together and the Google Translate thing felt like

a bit of a cop-out obviously in the big situations you need it but it's also

really fun to get your feet wet and completely mess up a try and that's

where we stand on the whole level of adventure yeah versus like a country

where you just speak English like it's so easy sorry mates we lost you there

man these batteries are getting a lot worse no so much okay let's continue our

thoughts Paloma Quesada hello mama Paloma Quezada

he was wondering what the price differences are when it comes to food

fuel and just things in general also how easy are hard was it to be vegan

thanks for sharing yourself fuel on par basically it's similar yeah and you want

to be careful that you know people aren't ripping off the gas station so a

lot of you guys actually messaged us saying make sure you like watch them

when they reset the meter in terms of food and fruit I think the greatest

thing about van life in Mexico was that we cooked almost every single meal so

the only time you guys really saw us eating out was when we didn't have our

van because it was in the shop or if we just wanted to try something and weren't

feeling like cooking which was so rare so we would go to fruity Rios and 40

areas or tell area I think it's 40 area tour Atilla oh there's two hours but

that's a why sounded artillery tortilla yeah going to the fruit area is such a

great cheap viable option and it's awesome for vegans because you just want

fresh fruit and veg and so it's amazing I think we've showed you guys in the

video so go back and watch the series if you haven't already but we we spent

maybe a hundred pesos to two hundred pesos every time we'd go and we get a

massive bag with plenty of avocados and all this kind of stuff and that maybe

around five to ten dollars us and that would last us for a couple of days the

question yeah the vegan part yeah yeah I was just gonna say something about that

like I kind of touched on it because we did so much of our own cooking that

wasn't such a stress of ours but we were very conscious like at the grocery

stores we pick up the cans and we knew that there was often lard and

some sort of animal products even in Maleng that just said beans and sauce or

whatever or just beans actually and we had a lot of messages about tortillas

and how they actually have learned in them so I mean maybe we weren't perfect

vegans I don't yeah we weren't like asking that Tortola Ria's hey is there

animal products in there like we're just eating with tortillas so there might

have been we're horrible being in super horrible people yeah sorry about that

guys okay yeah Alexandra Capobianco oh I know

you she was asking was difficult to

communicate with employees who were working after her business since you

mentioned before so basically about Wi-Fi yeah so I actually have my phone

on in Mexico so in Canada you pay it was expensive we paid like $12 a day to roam

like home shut up to Rogers psyche so yeah we got ripped on that but it was

great because I could make phone calls you have regular service and I think we

would need to do that regardless of any where we go just because we are running

a company but then also like we're all youtubers so we're constantly looking

for Wi-Fi requests and checking our email so that wasn't really an issue

Jane Alexa Jane asks how did you rig up the lady funnel for going number one I

don't remember if you showed it on a story or an episode but I thought it was

such a genius idea does it empty to the underside of the

van materials use just the funnel into question mark so I'm gonna let you take

that one and run but I will just say that I absolutely love lucky funnel I

think every man lever needs a pee funnel it was the greatest thing you've ever

installed we'd be cooking dinner with the three

different bands and we implement slugs who wouldn't love me but she would

literally be wearing a dress and be peeing in front of everyone no one even

knew so the funnel is hyper serrated knives that I'm like hey guys did you

know it was fun yes super super easy patent pending

we've got a lot of van lifers on that pee funnel game

and it's super simple it's literally a Havana shown them should I show them

yeah yeah yeah quickly while a man's moving you if someone asks Rose Mason

wants to know did you get the tattoo oh you did not get the tactic no

unfortunately guys okay this is the funnel it's really really simple it's

just like this funnel and a tube that goes straight through the bomb and

basically you pee through that that's it Rebecca just kind of holds it up like

that you pee and then we just hang it up so it's always like a straight line it's

always dripping down so it won't like pull off in there or anything and then

we have an all natural disinfectant that we disinfect it with every single time

so it doesn't smell or anything like that that's the people are we gonna

return and finish the trip that we had planned which was to go through Central

America and I think Wow sorry can start again why did you need to do that right

now it's bothering me so just quickly to touch on why we're back why we didn't

continue through Central America as you guys know by now we have a company and

two tea business based out of Toronto called chai wallah we sell unique

handmade chai and we go to some shows every year religiously actually when

this video goes out live we're going to be up both of them so on Sunday which is

tonight we're gonna be at the Toronto yoga conference as well as the Toronto

coffee and tea show so it's interesting because there's this

idea of van life where you can just kind of travel forever and not have to go

back to one spa and I think there's something really romantic about that but

we also really enjoy the fact that we do have a purpose behind our travel and our

business and everything so we're back we're back to work on our business um

which is why we had that two months and why we had to come back and cut it short

but in saying that I think for sure Central America is on the horizon for us

but not probably before what we want to do it well the summer yeah I mean the

summer is so beautiful to be in Canada in United States when I spend more time

in the west coast we don't have anything to set in stone yet but Alaska was a

really popular suggestion I've become so maybe up west and then Alaska and then

we got to come back for our busy time of year here so stay tuned are we done we

rested up I think that should be enough I don't know but like we said if you

guys have more specific questions about Mexico ban laughing in Mexico or

anything like that leave them below we're trying to put together some video

ideas that are like really detailed that are really going to give you the ins and

outs on how to do that and all that kind of stuff so I'm stay tuned for more

content about fan life in Mexico but we thought we just throw up this general

Q&A let you guys know that it's safe the food is good we're good what's going on

come say hi the show's if you have some time today we'd love to meet you guys

is that it that's that did if you did enjoy the video make sure you did enjoy

the video we would really love to get your feedback give us a thumbs up if you

enjoyed it if you haven't already please subscribe to our Channel this is just

the beginning the adventures are yet to come

yeah leave us any questions you've got follow us on Instagram I just can't stop

I just can't stop bye buddy ah yeah but we're not hungry

really not before the gym

middle Millennials are coming very excited first question they ask is are

you guys hungry so you show we get along with them chest

you

Creating Texture with Oil - Duration: 10:19.

Hey everybody! In today's video, I'm just going to do some really crazy experiments. A

lot of times I don't have time to just sit down and play with crazy stuff, so I

thought this would be a fun change for my Gel Press video.

I have my five by seven Gel Press set up in my MISTI - this is really the way I

like to work with my Gel Press for a lot of reasons -

and I have some little plastic cups with paint, and I'm actually putting hair oil

in - I'm not even kidding you a little bit! I, like many of you, have been watching

some fun stuff happen with paint pours on YouTube and that kind of takes up

more space than I have, and it's a little bit messy, (even though I am not afraid of

a mess at all) but I thought I would take some of those same principles and apply

them to gel printing. I actually have another video similar to this that I'll

show you. You can see some little cells opening up on the paint that I've put on

the plate here, this is really a pretty mild reaction, it's different from what

I'll get later, but you definitely can see that the silicone in the hair oil or

whatever that substance is, it acts like silicone,

is separating that paint and creating some really interesting textures, so as I

play this will get more pronounced. Now the thing about creating cells, as you'll

see in my other video that I'll link you guys to, is that since you're putting a

paper down on top of these formations sometimes they aren't as clear as they

appear on the plate, but you can see a lot of those little fun openings that

are created. Later in the video I have a way to capture all that stuff that's

going on underneath the surface where the paper is, that I just discovered just

by spending a little bit of time and freely experimenting, which I encourage

you to do especially with your Gel Press! There's so much sort of accidental magic

that happens when you sit down in a gel printing session, and unlike Sally Lynn

McDonald, I never document anything I'm doing that

isn't in a video - she's really good about documenting sort of her step-by-step

process. Everything I do is 100% not repeatable unless it's filmed because I just

don't have the patience to do that, and I really appreciate that she does that for

those of us that want to be able to recreate something. For me,

my Gel Press is a very ephemeral medium, and it's just sort of lost to time after

I create it unless it's on video. So you can see that a little bit of paint goes

a long way, I'm not using much paint in this video at all, really, and you just

need a little popsicle stick and a little cup to mix up the oil, and I'll

link you to the specific oil that I used. I'm also using a catalyst wedge. I found

that this worked better than the brayer for some reason, there's something about

scraping across the paint rather than rolling it as you'll see here, as you see

this bloom start to happen up at the top, that allows that magic of that silicon

separation to be more prominent. I just love the way this looks - I think it's so

much fun, really really unique textures.

I know it looks like I don't have enough paint, but I promise I do have

enough paint, so don't feel like you need to fill up a whole cup of paint because

I think a lot of it will go to waste. Now I'm adding a little bit of yellow,

and I'm not using pure paint at any point, even for my pickup prints during

this video I'm still just using the paint that has the hair oil mixed into

it. So here I'm doing a pickup print just with that same yellow paint - when trying

to clean the plate of those layers below it. So now I'll speed this up, and I'll do

several of these in a row so you can really see what the oil does, and mixing

dark and light colors I found really gives you some cool effects, and you can

see how vigorously the paint is forming those little cells. And again, when you

press the paper down on top of it it's not as pronounced because your smooshing

the paint around on the plate, but later on what's left on the plate

that has the larger cellular structures in it - I will show you how to pick that

up and really preserve it in some beautiful pickup prints towards the end.

You can also let this dry, which I will do later, because you can see after I've

removed the paint - see all those openings? You can see

even on the plate how much detail is left, and that's great for picking up a

dried paint to print like I'll do later, but look at that beautiful texture! I

just love that, and I even have some little dendritic effects there. I'll link

you to my dendritic printing video as well, and you can layer wet paint on top

of wet paint, you'll see that the bubbles are getting more pronounced there. So now

here are some dried bubbles, and I'm going to go back on top of this dried paint,

and I'm going to do layer after layer of pickup prints by putting wet paint on

top of the dry, and just pick up a little bit at a time. but you'll see as I go

down through these layers of prints, that the very last prints have the most

detail of those little cells that I created.

So here's the first one where I'm just pulling off some sort of landscape

looking shapes with the pink. You can see that the green is actually the layer

that's closest to the plate, and then I'll do one with this dark, dark

blue. The more you press down onto the plate the more of the dried paint you'll

pick up, and now you can start to see that the layers with the cellular

structures in them are starting to come up, and show on top of the print that I'm

pulling. which is actually the paint that was closest to the plate, and this is

where the real magic happened in this technique. For me, those look like little

stars. It looks like a landscape scene, and there are little twinkling lights

from those cells that were on that bottom layer, and I just think that is

spectacular! And then the layer that is on top of that so the paint that I'm

putting on now - on top of the dried paint - that's a softer, more

impressionistic looking background in contrast with these sort of landscape

structures that have that very well-defined

cells in them. This one looks sort of wintry to me.

So I'll come back with the yellow again - I'm just using the rest of that paint

with the oil in it, and you can see cells forming right before I print.

This is a really nice contrast on here with the yellow background, and then

that green and blue that's closer to the bottom of the plate.

To me it looks like mountains or structures near water and then their

reflections. Then down here you can see that bright blue that I'm picking up

from another ghost layer - it's like walking backwards through your process.

Now these are my favorite the ones with the light blue - they picked up not only a

lot of the cellular structure on the bottom

but this particular color combination I think is really beautiful and creates a

very harmonious scene.

So I can't resist - I have to do another one with the blue and I get some good

transparency with this paint, and look at those cells

forming! I must be down to the bottom where I

have mostly oil left and so it creates almost a snowy texture in the background,

while leaving the landscape forms alone, and so there's contrast between that

dried paint that I'm picking up in the background. Then finally I would

encourage you to do a complementary color - these are always very dramatic. I

could tell I was getting to the end here of my paint so I used a catalyst wedge

to make sure I got the most paint possible off the plate, but that bright

quinacridone magenta against the green structures is so so beautiful and one of

my favorite looks in gel printing. So here are some of the prints by

themselves, and then finished cards with these background prints. Sometimes it's

hard to cut up a print and make it into a card, but I did have fun doing that

with some of these prints. So yes, you can go into your hair product selection in

your house and still have fun with your Gel Press! So experiment - and enjoy it!

Thanks so much for watching!
