he was the inventor of the telephone he was born on March 3rd 1842 stay tuned
because in this lesson I'm going to show you how to talk about famous people from
the past coming up hey friends teacher Prix here to help you talk to anyone
anywhere anytime in English hey another video thanks for watching and if you're
here for the first time hey thanks I hope you enjoy today's
lesson and make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any of my weekly videos but
here we go in this lesson of the beginner's guide
part 2 I'm going to start talking to you guys about simple past okay what's this
simple past is a conjugation alright in the first beginners guide I showed you
simple present okay what is simple present it's also a conjugation but it
talks about now the present in the beginners guide part 1 we talked about
simple present which is a different conjugation to talk about things in the
present my routine things I do everyday things I am doing now but now we are
going to focus on the past everything that happened in the past okay
and today we are going to focus on one verb only one verb okay verb to be to
talk about the past all the verbs in English the actions will have a
different conjugation the way you speak and the way you write will be different
in the simple past you need to change the verb because if you don't change the
verb if there is no change in the conjugation I don't understand your
phrases in the past so here we are going to look at two conjugations for verb to
be was and were hmm what's the difference in meaning nothing they mean
the same the only difference is that was will be used for the pronouns I
he/she/it and the verb were the conjugation were will be used for the
pronouns you we they remember that it's not only pronouns, with objects places
things people very nice so let's take a look at some affirmative sentences with
verb to be Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1842 so Alexander he was born so
with the pronoun he with words in the singular pronounsin the singular people in the
singular form you will use was I was born on September 13 1987 how about you when
were you born let me know in the comments my parents plural parents mom and dad my
parents were tired yesterday okay yesterday they were tired alright good
these are some examples of phrases in affirmative form how about the negative
form of verb to be to make negative sentences with verb to be in the
past you will need the word not was not were not but you can abbreviate this
both in spoken and written language was not wasn't were not weren't okay
good let's see some examples in the negative form Alexander Graham Bell was
not a doctor he wasn't a doctor I wasn't hungry yesterday and finally to make
interrogative sentences to make questions you will need to invert the
position between Was and the pronoun or were and the pronoun or your name or the place
or the thing okay for example were you tired yesterday huh so I just inverted
were you tired yesterday was Alexander a doctor no he wasn't was Alexander a
teacher I don't know maybe not I'm not sure good are you enjoying this lesson so
far yes if so click the like button by clicking like you're supporting this
channel and showing people that this is a nice lesson anyways back to the lesson
when do you use verb to be in the past well verb to be is one verbs okay so
you will use verb to be in very specific situations talking about occupations of
people from the past Alexander was an inventor he his invention was the
telephone talking about feelings I was not hungry this morning okay so I was
born dates okay I was born in 18 in 1987 so these are very specific situations
okay in future lessons I'm going to show you different verbs that will help you
talk about different things in the past okay good I have another thing to tell
you about verb to be in the past but before that I want to give you your
homework and what is it hmm you are going to choose one inventor okay
then you're going to write some phrases about this inventor in the simple past
with verb to be here are some pieces of information that I want to see in the
comments what was his name what was his invention when was he born where was he
born and who were his parents his father his mother who were his parents to help
you I'm gonna give you some links to some important inventors in the
descriptions all right now back to the final part of the lesson you can also
ask specific questions with verb to be all you have to do is use wh
question words what where when why who whose okay if you don't remember wh question
words very well I will also leave a link in the descriptions to some lessons I
gave in the beginners guide one where I show you all about wh question words
okay but let's see some examples with wh
question words and verb to be in the past who was Alexander Graham Bell hmm
he was the inventor of the telephone so pay attention that here it's not a yes
or no question I want specific information so you don't start your
answer with yes or no okay where location where was Alexander born he was
born in Edinburgh okay when date when was Alexander born he was born on March
3rd 1842 okay so to make specific questions all you need is the WH
question word you start with this word what where when and why then verb to be
because it's a question remember you have to invert the position and after
that the person or the object or the pronoun and then your complement when
was Alexander born okay thank you so much friends and I'll see you next time
bye
