- Three things people don't know about being an Olympian....

Well first, pins are a currency.

Everyone trades pins.

Pins can get you places that money cannot.

For instance, I technically bailed my friend out of jail

with pins in Vancouver.

The police had him because he was absolutely belligerent,

and I gave pins to the cops, and I said,

"I will promise to take care of him,"

and I took him home.

Pins are amazing, pins are amazing.

I don't really want to tell that story,

but it's already on camera.

Everything's recording.

So yeah, that did happen.

So if you go to the Olympics,

make sure you have pins for trade,

and also to get out of tricky situations like that.

Number 2, being an Olympian isn't always

the most glamorous lifestyle.

After the 2010 Olympics, I still was working full-time.

And I was a bartender and a server at weddings and events.

So many times, the bar, late night ... people like,

"Oh, yeah, so what do you do?"

I'm like, "Well, I do this sport called luge."

They're like, "Oh, what's that?

Are you like an Olympic athlete?"

I'm like, "Actually, I am."

And they're like, "Shut up."

They're like, "You're working behind the bar

and you're an Olympic athlete?"

I'm like, "Yeah, because I train during the day.

And so this is the only time where I can really work."

So, number 3 is at the Olympics

things always tend to go wrong.

There's really no way to plan for what's gonna happen.

A lot of it's transportation issues.

Sometimes you won't get your bags in time

because they're being delivered,

but they might go to the wrong place.

Timing is really hard, but....

Yeah, you just have to be able to roll with the punches.

I guess it worked out in the end,

I ended up getting this, so....

You gotta be willing to do anything.

Education systems around the World - Duration: 17:54.

[Music] - Hi friend, how are you doing today? We are going

to discuss about different education systems from all over the world-

especially for school-going students. We'll do a research on countries like USA,

UK, Australia, Singapore, and Canada. First try to find out the education system in

UK. I think Wikipedia is a good source of knowing this information. But

I'm trying to explore and like a layman. The education system in England started with

nursery or playgroup students. Basically, Year-one means the standard

one. Normally age group of two to three years

[Music] are students of Year-one students. There are

different types of schooling available. like state-funded schooling, then

independent schooling, primary schooling infant schooling junior school, primary

school, then middle school, secondary school and college. There are some

examinations like eleven plus, A level English bachelor/Bachelor like

this so 11 plus is a qualifying examination for some

students in England- especially in Northern Ireland.

They participate in of the 11 plus. The entry level is 11 to 12 years old.

Many years ago it was used throughout the England and now it is only used in

countries and remote part of England. This is basically an IQ test. The test

was started in 1944 and it was one of the major exam in primary

education. There are some other schooling systems available in England. But the major

examination is common entrance test. Common entrance test is an independent

schools examination board. Or, also known as ISEB. ISEB offers an examination for the

pupils transferring from junior to independent senior schools at the age group

of 11+ and 13+ in United Kingdom are eligible for this examination.

What are the major subjects in the Common Entrance Examination? it is

an English examination as well as examination in mathematics and science

At 13+ age the examination consists of examination in mathematics in three

papers like mental mathematics paper, plus a written paper (with calculator and

without calculator). English examinations are in two papers (Latin, Greek)

classical Greek, geography, history, regional studies, plus either physics or

chemistry and biology or science. These are the subjects for 13+

[Music] student groups. They can also choose a

modern language like French, German Meridian, Spanish and some other.

If we try to understand the education system of age group like 10 to 15, I

think it is better to understand first the education system of UK then we can

compare the same education system with the other country. We will understand how

the same education pattern is implemented for that particular age

group. There are some other interesting information about the schooling system

of UK. Our most senior school except the candidates on to offer

mathematics, English, science, geography, history, religious studies and one or two

languages. But people from schools which do not offer the traditional range of

subjects to their pupil, they go for some other technique subjects because the

vocational subjects can be used as an alternative in these

particular examination in UK. There was a famous examination known as SATs. Now it

is known as national curriculum assessment. Earlier this was known as

SATs. It is the standard of primary schools in England.

Normally the government-funded primary school in England use this

curriculum. [Music]

According to that National Curriculum of assessment

now the key stages are K1 & K2

There are 2 elements in the stationary assessment process of p1 test

and teacher assessment. This set is not too much interesting. The major target is

to pass the Common Entrance Examination. Because once you clear this exam, you can

start a new career in the higher study. It is designed for

Scholarship candidates and the Scholarship papers are there in each of mathematics,

geography, English, French, science, history, religious studies, and Latin. The Scholarship

candidates do not sit in the common papers or The common

academy Scholarship paper. It is also known as GCSE. The most senior examination

for secondary school candidates. The major subjects are mathematics English science geography

history and religious studies. There are three times a year, the papers held.

such as January June and November. The papers are set Monday to Friday

The candidates usually sit in examination paper at their own

school at a fixed date. The papers are marked by other

senior schools.

you will find some example papers in ISEB.co.uk. Website.

The examination has it's own board website and common guidance.

The are provided by many other website so we understand that in England ISEB

examination is a major examination for school pass-out students and it can give

you the opportunity to achieve some good Scholarship in higher study. Let's move to

the USA. The pre school level starts with pre-kindergarten the age group is 3

to 5. Pre-kindergarten level students are children of age group 3 to

5. It is same as for the kids in

Canada. They normally go to elementary schools and

then Primary school. Pre-kindergarten is often used for a concept of nursery care

where actually children are kept in special care. At this

stage the students are very small kids. so their social development physical

develop and emotional develop and cognitive development are focused at

that stage.

The teachers and The students are totally involved in

some basic learning process. The next stage is the kindergarten. This stage

is suitable for age group to 5 to 6. Kindergarten is the starting point of

the elementary school. The first grade age group are 6 to 7. Second grade 7 to 8

and third grade 8 to 9. Normally age group of 9 to 10 are 4th grade. The fifth

get started with age group 10 to 11. 6th grade are 10 to 15.

The freshman's are ninth grade student and

11 grade student are known as junior and 12 grade

student are known as senior. If you complete 12 grade, you completely 18

years of study. At the age of 18, they can go for the higher

education. Higher education means the college and universities then graduation

level. The age group of 10 to 15 years fifth grade to 10th grade. Normally

fifth grade is the most senior year of an elementary school.

There was a famous TV show, "are you smarter

than a 5th grade? so 5th grade kids know a lot of thing about science mathematics

history geography. Sixth grade is also known as K-7 or year seven in UK.

In Asian country that age is known as class-VI. A 5th grade student knows

little bit about everything including maths, science and geography history

so all over the world if you take account the countries like Senegal

Morocco in Africa India Pakistan in Nepal Bhutan in Asia China, Laos, Malaysia,

Philippines, Singapore, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland, all over the world the

sixth grade student are the primary level education passed out student.

they know a little bit about natural science, history, geography, physical

innovation and language like English Spanish. The age group of sixth grade

to ten are all common again. No matter, it is in UK or Australia or in USA

almost same curriculum are used in other countries. The age of 6th to 10th age

is a period of time when you can learn as a lot of things about

history geography grammar.

it is one of the keys stage of learning process. Today we learned a lot of things

about the education system of Western countries and the similarity

of all over the world. Thank you and we'll discuss another important topic in

the next video. [Music]
