USA news on Youtube Mar 4 2018

Hey, how's it going?

I'm sure that if you're watching this video

that you're one of our super motivated English students, right?

And you started the year like this:

I'm sorry about that.

Well, very good!

You have the goal of improving your English this year.

And you have a lot of motivation.

Eventually my local cafe...

But as time passes, it seems that it gets harder and harder for us to find the time,

continue with the same motivation.

Here's a tea for you there.

Okay, thank you.

Sorry, sorry.

It's the same story every year.

That's why in this video we've collaborated with lingoda

to help you to integrate

English into your everyday life.

If you don't know lingoda

it's an online language academy

accessible from anywhere in the world

with native and qualified professors

of French, English, German and Spanish.

I've been taking some Spanish classes.

Isabel has been taking some English classes.

We've tried it for you guys

and the truth is we love this platform.

When you sign up for lingoda

every month you receive a packet of private classes

and in groups.

And you can choose the days and times that are best for you.

It's open 24/7 as we say in English.

The group classes have a very reduced number of student

therefore you're going to be able to participate more

than in some traditional academies.

If you want to try lingoda

with the code AMIGOS

they're going to give you a €50 discount.

You're welcome.

Okay, so let's get started with today's video.

So, your alarm goes off at let's say 7 o'clock in the morning and

what's the first thing you do when your alarm goes off?

Well you snooze for at least 10 minutes, don't you?

Well, yeah, 10 minutes is fine,

but don't snooze for any longer.

If you're a super motivated student

and you want to take advantage of your morning to the maximum,

what can you do Isabel?

Well, you can wake up to a happy song in English.

That's a great idea.

But don't just listen you need to

sing as well, right?

Sing along.

Yes.

And this will also help you to get up in a really good mood.

You should sing an upbeat song,

and you should dance as well,

and that way you can wake up.

Okay, so after you've sung your song

what do you do Isabel?

Well usually you have a shower

and maybe you have to iron a shirt for work,

you need to get dressed

do your hair,

maybe put some makeup on.

So, while you're getting ready in the morning

don't just get ready in silence.

This is time you could be spending listening to the radio in English or

podcasts in English.

There are thousands of podcasts about any topic you can imagine.

Welcome everyone to the School of Greatness podcast.

Now you're ready to leave the house.

And so-- Well, I'm not ready to leave the house

without a coffee and some breakfast.

Oh, yeah.

So, while you're waiting for your toast

don't just stand there.

What could you do?

Have a look at the BBC news app

and check the news

while you're, yeah, waiting for the toast

or maybe while you're waiting for the kettle to boil.

It's something that you can integrate into your routine really easily

because most people read the news in the morning

in Spanish.

So just change it to English

and there you go, super easy.

Or if you don't have time or you are a really quick eater

then have a look at some quotes, maybe,

some inspirational quotes in English.

I quite like reading the Oscar Wilde ones in the morning

because they make me laugh.

Some cause happiness wherever they go;

others whenever they go.

So, now you finally made it out of your house.

And maybe you miss the train

you have to wait for ten minutes

or maybe you're driving and you're stuck in traffic.

If you're commuting on the train

that's the perfect opportunity to do some reading in English.

If you're driving or cycling don't read a book, that could be dangerous.

But you could listen to an audio book in English.

So, when you get off the train

or you're there looking for your ticket,

you know you you don't waste a minute.

Okay, so it's nine o'clock and you've arrived at work.

Can you do anything while you're at university or at work?

Well, there's not much you can do at work or at uni

but maybe you have some colleagues who are not Spanish speakers

so you can practice with them.

Oh good morning Isabel.

How are you?

Good morning!

How are you Jonathon?

Fine. How was the weekend.

Great, yeah. Did you get my email?

We're gonna need to send another invoice to the company

because they didn't get it.

I'm sure I sent it yesterday.

But, yeah, no problem.

I'll send it again.

You could carry on reading your book in English

if your boss isn't around.

Instead of working?

Isabel?

Okay, so then it's lunchtime,

and if you're lucky your company gives you free English classes.

But if your boss is quite tight-fisted

then maybe you don't get any English classes.

So why not have a class on lingoda?

So this is the perfect time when you are still fresh

during the day

to practice your speaking skills.

My name's Hunter, nice to meet you.

Originally I'm from Southern California.

I love travelling, yes, yes.

And obviously you don't need to do this every day

if you just do this a couple of times a week

this is going to mean an incredible boost

for your English fluency by the end of the year.a

Are you coming for lunch?

Uh....

No, not today.

I've got my class in ten minutes.

I'm just gonna grab a sandwich.

Maybe tomorrow.

So now, you might have to work for a few more hours,

and then you finish work.

Yes! It's time to go home!

It's time to get out the office.

Imagine you've finished work, and you have a doctor's appointment and

you have to wait in a waiting room.

What could you do Isabel?

This is pretty boring,

but don't worry because it's a great opportunity to keep learning English.

For example, you can use an app to memorize phrasal verbs.

Hi, Vanessa. Yeah, you can send her in.

Isabel Carrasco?

Yes, it's me!

Okay, let's imagine another day

you decide to go to the gym after work.

What could you do at the gym Isabel?

Well at the gym,

if you go on the static bicycle, for example,

you can play some short films on your phone.

I don't recommend it if you're running,

if you are on the, how do you call it?

On the treadmill.

The treadmill.

Every time I hear a new word,

every time I come across a new word,

I always add it to an app.

So, I have the new word with the translation or maybe with a phrase.

You can also have a notebook with you during the day,

so you write down the word.

And then at night while I'm cooking dinner

I go through a test.

So, I test myself on those words

to see if I remember all of them.

So I do this every day and it only takes 10 minutes

And it's an amazing way to increase your vocabulary.

And it's also quite fun because it's a challenge.

So, I take it quite seriously.

Well, that's all for today,

we hope you've enjoyed this video

and that you're turning it over in your head

thinking how you're going to integrate English in your life starting from tomorrow.

And that you stop seeing English as something boring,

like something that can become a nightmare

and that you start to enjoy it and make it part of your routine.

And if you have any advice of your own,

please let us know in the comments

and that way everyone can benefit.

Of course!

And if you're interested in trying lingoda

and start classes this week

remember with the code AMIGOS you'll have a €50 discount.

Okay, we'll put the link below in our description.

So tomorrow's an exciting day isn't it?

Yes, tomorrow morning you're gonna wake up

and you're going to have a whole new routine.

Yes, try not to do everything on the first day

because you might go a little bit crazy.

But little by little.

Yeah, by the end of the year you're gonna master your English.

Hope it's given you some ideas and we'll see you soon.

Bye! See you! Chao!

Isabel where are you?

We're waiting at your house (?)

Are you coming

Come!

Where are you?

Why don't you answer?

Top 10 Most Amazing Sculptures From Around The World

All around the world, in almost any city or town, you can find many monuments, sculptures

and statues displayed in parks, squares or other places.

These public artworks represent different things, but most usually they are monuments

dedicated to fallen heroes, distinguished individuals or represent some significant

part of the history.

But some of them are pure art, representing their artist's inspiration and message.

Among all these pieces of art scattered all around of world there are some that stand

out with their uniqueness, individuality and message.

Although it is very hard to pick only 10 out of them, we tried to create this list of our

favorite totally amazing sculptures from around the world.

Take a look and feel free to add your favorite statue or sculpture in the comments.

1.

Dancing With Dandelion By Robin Wight, Uk Robin Wight, a UK sculptor, creates this mind

blowing sculptures of wind blown fairies clutching dandelions.

He is using stainless still wire and makes them so they seem to be suspended in midair

or clinging to trees.

Currently you can see the sculptures at the Trentham Gardens.

What is cool is that you can make one of them on your own as the artist sells DIY wire sculpting

kits on his website.

2.

Memorial to Nelson Mandela, South Africa 50 steel columns representing, representing

the 50 years since his arrest and political persecution, are forming Nelson Mandela's

profile.

Although you can see his likeness only from a certain angle, this sculpture is still pretty

amazing.

The sculpture was created by Marco Cianfanelli and it is is installed in the town of Howick,

South Africa where Mandela was arrested.

3.

Metalmorphosis, Charlotte, North Carolina Ok, this is actually a fountain but it is

so amazing it totally deserves a spot on our list.

Czech sculptor David Černý is the artist behind this magnificent mirrored water fountain

that was constructed at the Whitehall Technology Park in Charlotte, NC.

Made from massive stainless steel layers that rotate 360 degrees and occasionally align

to create a massive head, the sculpture weighs 14 tons!

4.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas, Texas, USA These bronze horses are huge!

Don't be fooled by the photograph as they are 1 and a half times bigger than real horses.

It is the largest group of sculptured horses ever built and there are fountains built into

their feet which shoot out water in such a way as to create the impression that they're

galloping through a river.

5.

Colossus, Florence, Italy Italian sculptor Giambologna built this mountain

god in the late 1500's.

The statue is 35 feet tall and stands in Florence, Italy.

Giambologna built the statue, named Appennino, as a symbol of Italy's rugged Appenine mountains.

What is interesting about this statue is that it hides several rooms with different functions

that made this colossus come to life.

6.

People of the River, Singapore If you visit Singapore you will surely take

a stroll along the Singapore river.

Taking this walk is important in order to understand Singapore's history and the People

of the River statue series helps you to do just that.

Chong Fah Cheong is the creator of these statues that seem like they are alive.

One of the most striking among them is a frozen-motion sculpture of five boys diving off to go for

a swim in the river.

You can find it right on the historical Cavenagh Bridge's left side.

7.

Expansion by Paige Bradley, New York, USA This striking modern statue by Paige Bradley

is meant to bring together the liberate and contained, meant to intrigue and provoke.

Here is the author's story behind this intriguing piece: "I conceived this piece when I first

moved to Manhattan.

I was a bit startled by the power of the curators and the critics and how they all had an anti-figure

slant on what they deemed show-worthy.

I took a perfectly good wax sculpture – a piece I had sculpted with precision over several

months – an image of a woman meditating in the lotus position, and just dropped it

on the floor.

I destroyed what I made.

I was letting it all go.

It was scary.

It shattered into so many pieces.

My first feeling was, 'What have I done!?!'

Then, I trusted it would all come together like I envisioned".

8.

Les Voyageurs, Marseilles, France Bruno Catalano is the artist behind these

imperfectly perfect bronze statues named called "Les Voyageurs" and located in Marseilles.

They present realistic human workers but with large parts of their bodies missing which

makes them very unique.

The sculptures were put on display in Marseilles to celebrate its position as the 2013 European

Capital

of Culture.
