what's up friends today I just want to give you a really quick update I've been
playing around with a little project, I needed an overhead rig it's something
I've struggled with quite a lot in the past. I managed to kind of figure
something out today which is pretty good, so I thought I'd just do a really quick
video just to show you how I've Mackled together quite a simple overhead ring
which did the job pretty well so let's do this!
so yeah I've struggled with overhead rigs quite a lot in the past, I found them quite difficult to set up
quite challenging because of the weight of the cameras involved, getting the
angles right the lights and everything, I just recently got a GoPro and I got some
new storage as well which I'll show you in a second and it's kind of just all
come together quite nicely so if you need an easy overhead rig then this might
be quite good for you so let's just show you what I've done, let me just swing this
around. So I've got this bookcase here that just leans up against the wall and
then beneath that I have got my storage with all my camera gear and everything
in there as you can see and on the top I've just got this kind of work surface
which I've been using recently for sort of keeping my camera gear, changing
lenses, charging batteries etc. So today I just decided that I was going to shoot
this little sequence for a different vlog that's coming up soon and I'll
probably show you a little bit of it in this one anyway but yeah what I've ended
up with okay is I've got this sash clamp which I bought originally for a woodwork
project and these are I don't know if you know the sash clamps but what they
are is they're made for clamping really long items so what I've done is a plant
it to that bookcase and then that gives this long metal arm that comes off from
the bookcase so then attached to the sash clamp I've
then got a magic arm these things are crazy I don't know how I lived before I
got my magic arm it's such a useful thing to have and then on the end of the
magic arm we've got the GoPro pointing down and then on the end of the sash
clamp I've just used a little spring clamp just to stick an LED light there
which you can see this is just a really small quite cheap battery-powered
Nanguang luxe pad 22 I think it is, check it out on Amazon and then on the
other side we've got the Aputure Amaran 528 LED light ok and then just
as a backdrop I've just used a little bit of black foam board and then just a
piece of white foam board in front and you can see the video I'm doing is about
hard drives so I was actually sort of trying to film all of my hard drives and
storage stuff so that's what I've done so that came out really nicely
let me just whizz this back around so yeah that is the quick overhead rig so
really quick video today let me know what you think of this overhead rig if
you've had the same problem or if you think there's a better way of doing it
but yeah there's a quick easy thing that I've just thrown together it's actually
really pretty effective so I'll show you a little bit of the footage now and
other than that I'll see you next time
