Great designers like Armani,
Ralph Lauren, and Christian Louboutin
have had the opportunity to show their designs
in the Parade of Nations of the Olympic Games.
Now, meet the rebel behind the brand.
On today's Fashion Icon:
Ralph Lauren.
Since 2008, Ralph Lauren has been named
the official outfitter of Team USA.
And that's something big, even for him.
From that moment, Ralph has been dressing
the national Olympic team for the Olympic Games
of Beijing, Vancouver, London, Sochi and Rio.
Ralph Lauren's partnership with Team USA
marks an enormous shift in the Olympic sportswear.
Maybe one of the biggest years for fashion and the Olympics
was the 2012 London Olympic Games.
At this time, Ralph made a classic, elegant look.
This was his third collaboration with Team USA.
Men in double-breasted blazers,
and women with fitted navy blazers,
knee-length and cream silk skirts.
And he nailed it.
Then came the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
This time, the American outfit consisted of a navy blazer
with a striped T-shirt and white jeans
with the classic, all-American palette
of red, white and blue.
Designing for the Olympics is the biggest challenge
a designer can face.
They should be able to make something memorable,
but also that represents the heart and soul of a country.
And not any country.
