Lindsey Vonn Says She Won't Be Representing Trump at the Winter Olympics
Skier Lindsey Vonn has taken part in several Winter Olympics, competing on Team USA under presidents from both political parties.
But this February, when she competes in Pyeongchang, South Korea, she is making it clear: she's not representing President Trump when she hits the slopes.
In an interview with CNN, Vonn was asked what it will be like to compete for the U.S.
when Trump is the president.
Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president, she said.
She also added that if she were invited to the White House as a member of Team USA, she would "absolutely not" attend.
I take the Olympics very seriously and what they mean and what they represent, what walking under our flag means in the opening ceremonies, she said.
I want to represent our country well, and I dont think that there are a lot of people currently in our government that do that..
Vonn isn't the only Olympian who wouldn't visit the White House under President Trump.
According to USA Today, skier Gus Kenworthy and figure skaters Ashley Wagner, Nathan Chen, and Adam Rippon have also made similar statements.
I have no interest in going.
That's a super small form of protest, but I didn't vote for this administration," Kenworthy told USA Today.
"I am not standing by any of the policies that they're enforcing and things that they're doing.".
The way that the Trump administration I feel treats most of the citizens that voted in Hillary Clinton's favor is not a way that anybody should be treated, Rippon added.
If I were invited to the White House, which I consider a great honor, I would not attend..
