- I'm Michael Collins from Drug Policy Aliance, i work in Washington Dc, and we work in
- trying to put end to drugs war. We work on legalizing marijuana, system reforms,
- penal and judicial systems... Damage reduction... Focusing in a public healt solution for drugs
- and we've been deeply treating marijuana in all states where it's been legalized,
- actives in all campaigns and i'm here to talk about my experience in USA, what happens in states where it's legal.
- Our challenges can make a country like Spain learn from our experience. We've been legalizing
- marijuana since 2012 in several states like Colorado or Washington. A few countries are legalizing agaisnt
- federal law so there's some kind of battle agaisnt states and federal government... Obama gave green light
- to states to legalize marijuana so there was no problem, but there is other point of view with Trump. A lot of
- fanatics agaisnt marijuana hold important positions like Jeff Sessions, attorney general.
- Let's see what they want to do with the states that legalized marijuana.
- It's going to be an interesting war. Train just started the trip and it's impossible to stop but
- federal government wants to brake the process of legalization. During Obama's administration,
- we did a few steps forward and about certain problems between states and federal government
- but now we must limit the Trump's government damage. Our organisation is focusing to legalize
- marijuana for racial and social justice motivations. The most arrested in USA for drug crimes use to be
- african american or latin people, even being the same use between races... We think it's unfair
- and that's why want to legalize marijuana and put end to this failed policy. USA has been the lead in drugs war
- in Nixon and Reagan times and now we're getting out this war that made space to other countries to change their
- drug policy, specially in Latin America, where USA influence is really big, Uruguay for example,
- Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina are changing their drugs laws and it's really
- happening for USA motivations because USA can cause problems if they don't like their politics
- and we've already seen those interventions during the history. It's not happening now because they've
- legalized marijuana in a few states in USA, creating space to other countries to do the same.
