backup quarterback for Division III Albright College in Pennsylvania has been cut off of
the team for kneeling during the national anthem.
The team took the decision on Monday against Gyree Durante for his protest during his team's
game on Saturday.
The decision was reached by a 24-member 'team leadership council' comprised of student-athletes
who are selected annually by their teammates.
To ensure the news, A spokesperson for the college said, "One football player, who
unbeknownst to the coach and the team, chose not to support team unity and has been dismissed
from the team."
Prior to this past week's game Gyree Durante, a sophomore at the college, has chosen to
kneel during the National Anthem though the team chose to kneel during the coin toss.
The team wanted to avoid showing disrespect to the anthem.
But Durante chose to kneel again anyway.
The spokesperson continued, "Prior to the Lions' October 7 game against Delaware Valley
University, the team members decided in unison to kneel during the coin toss but stand during
the anthem."
And this why the quarterback gets his reward.
The school also alarm the other players of the team.
The school said that any player who will choose not to abide by the decision, will be paid
by the same consequences.
Gyree Durante explains his protective act saying to NBC 10 TV, "At some point in life,
there's going to be a time when you've got to take a stand."
"I was just taught you fight for what you believe in and you don't bow to anyone,'
he added.
The sacked quarterback said in his statement, 'I believe heavily in this.
So I decided to fight for it.'
Durante said that he will continue to speak up on social issues.
He also said he is considering transferring to another college.
